It's not often a reddit story that gets me emotional, but this one hit me big time
This was sooooo sweet,such a very wholesome story.

What a good story!
Generational facial similarities are very happy surprises when it happens. It did in my family. Going through Mom&Dad’s house after they passed, we came across several pictures of my Dad’s mother. The ones of her at age 18(?) were taken professionally ….. she and my youngest daughter(and me) could be identical triplets. We found several pictures with her sister taken outside with a family camera. The shadows emphasized the smile lines in their faces. My first thought? “She looks like our Dad wearing a dress.”
I once asked Dad what color Gramma’s eyes were: green. The same as his, my sister and I, all 4 of my children, and some of my grandchildren.
I need more stories like this

I love the overall plots and themes of this story but if you want to write on a more serious level, i.e. professionally, you might want to look into the details to make it more believable. Talk to people who know about symptoms, realistic time lines for surgery and recovery, legal proceedings, conflict of interest rules, etc. It doesn't need to be a doctor or a lawyer or such; often times someone like for example a professor is easier to get a hold of for an interview or consultation.
A surprising amount of research often goes into writing a book but getting the details right may ultimately make or break a story because they contribute to whether the reader is put off by or engages in the story and the characters. Personally you lost me a bit because of some unrealistic time line issues but your characters are very likeable.
You also have the potential for a complete side plot in the security aspect of the story as well.
But the plot and overall story here has incredible potential to be a really great full-on novel IMO...if you want it to. Very well done indeed. 👍
