- How to cut or slice a round loaf of bread so you get more slices which work better for sandwiches and the like.
Making all parallel slices means every slice is a different length, unless you match slices on opposite sides of the center. Towards the middle your knife is likely too short to make straight slices so you have to lean the loaf which tends to give crooked slices and is also less safe (like slicing a bagel)
a Herringbone slicing pattern gives you slices which match, almost all the same size. The difference in angle depends on how large your loaf is and how large you want each slice. I offset by about 45 degrees (135 degrees to the other side)
Ok, I tried it, and this is how I will cut round loaves from now on. It was much easier than I expected, and it is crazy that you don't see it any where else. Genius!
You beauty! Thank you thank you! Been at pains on how to get more even slices! Can’t wait to give it a go with my next sourdough. Excellent hack!
Good tip to stop alternating sides towards the end of the loaf. Thanks!
You need to name this way of slicing boule loaves, this is genius. Thanks for sharing!

Cool, I will try this on my next loaf.
Genius. This works pretty well!
brilliant
Fantastic!! WHAT knife though? my knife will not cut my sourdough bread I bought.
This is a Wusthof Trident 7" bread knife, although I have sharpened it using a diamond steel
Also, if your bread is still hot from the oven, your knife should be hot. Dip it in a boiling kettle, wipe dry and cut.
❤
Makes sense.
Nice
