The question is; Did Jesus or his apostles or even the early Christians for that matter wear distinctive garments? NO! Jesus said of the religious leaders of his day "They enlarge the borders of their garments" ( Matt 23:5). When Judas came with the guards to arrest Jesus, he was only identified when Judas kissed him". No distinctive, gold braided, purple cassock with mitre, e.t.c! It shows how far from true Christianity the church became, with rituals, robes, ornaments, yet Paul said "We are walking by faith not sight" ( ( 2 Cor 5:7)

    John 21
Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”
20Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”) 21When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”
22Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” 23Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”
24This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.
    Luke 22
31“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. 32But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
33But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”
34Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”

The Catholic church conducts classes for non-Catholics called RCIA. If you are interested, you will have to go to the nearest Catholic church where you live and ask them for details. You can attend the classes and learn.

I understand but that's not always the point. These aren't their personal clothes but rather the vestments used for liturgical/public functions. I doubt very much if the Apostles didn't dress as best they could when they had to offer the Mass. It's really not about the priests or cardinals or the Pope, it's about God and how we show our love and appreciation for Him.

I also wonder if Jesus worried about vestments when he first instituted the Sacrament of Eucharist, which is undoubtedly the essence of "liturgy" per se. Did he chastise John, who wore sackcloth when he participated in and presided over the liturgy in which he baptized Jesus, for failing to show love and appreciation for God? If so, please cite "Tradition" or "Scripture" to enlighten me. Additionally, where is the "end" of the "best they could"? If "the best" means within the financial means of an institution or an individual, then tell me what lavish attire can the Vatican NOT afford? If a pope demands ten thousand diamonds on the vestment to show the "glory of God dwelling in this world," do the faithful give their best to fulfill that demand when so many children go to bed hungry each night?*

The heresy of antiquarianism falls in line with what you're saying. You're also indirectly saying that cathedrals and basilicas are bad. I also don't think you'd expect a new religion starting out to have all kinds of riches to their name.

We are the church ..not where we go .. our bodies of each one of us .. form a church especially when we all gather in prayer.. we have formed a Church. Because we all His flesh and body and brother's in His blood.

@@ypattycake8911 I actually I disagree with u that our body is our church!! The problem is that people don't read the Bible and they trust the falso profet!! Jesus said there r just 2 ways one that takes to life and one that takes to distraction. We need to study the scriptures to find the real road to life!! Anyone that r teaching what is not in the Bible r the falso profet.
