After watching so many Slavic videos, It made me wanna taste one. And since we do not have Квасс here in the Philippines, I tried making some. But I think I accidentally made vinegar or rubbing alcohol or something 😂.

The clerk at my local Russian market recommended it which means I had a bad bias about kvass until I saw this video.

Shopping for kvass, I found that Monastery says that their kvass is made WITHOUT YEAST! Maybe that has something to do with it. But... my taste may be different than yours, so I am going to try it side by side with some imported Ochakovskiy. You definitely answered my beginners questions about foam.

homemade kvass mustard race here. If you can't find black rye bread Baltic/Slavic style, use German pumpernickel bread instead.
I cna buy monastirskij here in the local russian store, it's not that bad but homemade is best. Also with homemade you can make "soldiers kvass", i.e. you add double amount of sugar and let it ferment for at least 5 days so it has an alcohol content like beer instead of the usual 1%

I am very happy that there are many russian stores here in germany, or atleast in my region (there are like 3 stores in my city with 30.000 inhabitants), so I can enjoy our russian food and drinks without any problem

from this selection I had Monastyrsky Kvas (klasic, osobyj and medovy(honey)) and Ochakovsky, but I also had Chlebnyj Kraj(dark), Lidskyj Kvas (dark + light), Danilo(Clasic and Okroshechnyj ), Taras (Dark,White,Clasic), Chvatnyji Kvas (Dark and Clasic)
Hates it but still drinks it all instead of throwing it away. True cheeki breeki

Hey Bratan, hi from Italy (and let me point out, I love Russia, food drinks people everything!)
Years ago I tried two from a Russian shop here, I remember one was sweet and the other was more like sour/wet bread. Maybe maybe one was a chlebniy and the other was ochakovskiy. But now after many years I want to drink so much of it! And probably I will like the bitter one.
So I went to an Eastern European food shop (nearer to my home) and bought all those with low sugars. But they're different brands. One is Taras, both standard and the black one (better for me), apparently it is the most commonly drunk in the world. I don't know if you ever tried it in your life, but it would be curious to know your opinion. I can find the White one too.
Then we have Danilo, Bogatyrskiy and other kvasses.
Anyway, thanks for your very rich comparative review! I think i can definitely find the Ochakovskiy then (you are great to say, if we don't find the others let's try this). And I will sure go back to the fsr shop and ask good old big Sasha if he can find the Tsarskiy one. I hope so.
Once I asked his a dry shchuka and he could get even some ikrà (fantastic!).

We have a Canadian made Kvass that's really good made by All Star Bakery. Good mix of sweet and sour with a nice thick head on it. If you can find it i think you'd like it, chuvak!
Intresting , in hungary i cant find any of the listed ones . just tanheiser and a 3 liter one , and no other .
Nevermind ,found a russian store in budapest where cashier dont even speak hungarian(just a little english) , and also found good kvass(Nikola for example).

I ordered some Ochakovsky through the mail. It tasted kind of sour. It probably sat in a hot warehouse for a long time and then on a hot delivery truck, so I think it was spoiled. Next time I go to Russia I will buy some fresh and see.
When I was in StP I had some on the street that was wonderful, first time I'd ever had it. That night I bought some more in a bottle (I think Nikola) in a store and stuck it in the fridge and drank it the next day. It was also good. Neither of them tasted sour.
Hi from italy, in some other town (which i'll skip here) i had some kvass too from the big tank, it was light and very refreshing.
I'm trying several ones now back home, really love the dark (rye) ones, but the one that tastes more like that one i had is Bogatirskiy.
But dark ones are those i would drink always.
Years ago i didnt like the bitter ones, but my tastes have changed and now i'm bingeing to find the bitter one again 😅. Not sure it wasn't meant to be so. Some are really bitter/like sour bread.

Nice video , luckly there are plenty of slavic stores in budapest , i think the best is Nikolai and tanheiser . Flavoured kvass is western kvass , its spy kvass!
Anatoly, my Kvass option's are limited. Drinking my first glass of Kvass from a brand called Danilo. The foam is non-existent but the taste isn't bad at all. I want to try more brands. Have you tried Danilo kvass Данило Окрошковий квас?
I personally like Danilo which is made in Ukraine. This review is a bit overdone because there are two types of Kvass sold--the live fermentation ones which are akin to a very low percentage beer and the artificially carbonated ones which is more of a soda. You cant really compare them to each other, since the production quality is way different. On a hot day, all of them will be satisfying and refreshing. The live fermentation variety or even home-made will just provide an extra something.
Hello both of you, LM thanks at last i'm gettingnit simple and clear some difference between the two processes. By the way, in Italy we have mostly Ukraine kvasses and one is Taras (white, standard and black. I tried stnd and black - black especially was good). They have 'live fermentation technology' but i find them not refrigerated and honestly they are different from the 'live kvass' Tsarskie he's showing here.
Now i want to find it too, so much :D

NutsInPuss I'm trying Danilo Klassik... right now and it's really sweetish for my tastes. I still have one bottle of an Okroshkoviy to try, not Danilo i think, anyway (i chose them all with low sugars, 5-7 %). But beware that Okroshka is a soup (right?) so i suppose that kvas is more meant to be used in the soup than just being drunk plain as it is. Will try though!
For whatever reason, that gubernija kvass is probably the best I've had so far. Of course besides when you make homemade kvass without fucking anything up, which in that case, homemade is usually the best.

Try tanheiser and nikola , they usually can be found in russian delicates stores (eg in budapest in the arbat chain ) (the first taste like toast made of black bread). give it a try.
There's only one local store were I live in australia were you can buy kvass the the only one they have is the monastyrsky stuff oh well I can make my own
Finland has A. Le Coq Kvassi 0.5% 1 liter. 0.5% is the amount of legal additives in there. The more additives, the more you will party. I have never tried flavored kvass, either. I bought "Russkii dar" kvass in SPB.
I only make my own.

Premptively opening all the bottles before the "foam" test certainly released at least some of the stored c02 and compromised that result.

About the brands here, I'll try to write some down (corrections welcome!)
- Tsarskie Kvas (Pripasi?), the live one (that i'd like to find...)
- Yahont
- Khlebniy Kvas (from brianskpivo i think)
- Ochakovskiy Kvas (this i can find and i will buy. But it's only the nr. 4th on the hit list...)
Personally I've tried Taras black and Bohatyrskiy and they were the best i had so far. Many people say Lidsky and i will try that too.

A Russian, Ukrainian/ Eastern European Store. We Have Plenty of them here in The Sacramento California Area. But LA and Sandiago Should Have Some too. Basically any Big City Should Probably Have a Russian Store

@@mr.ramixhardbass3331 Venden malta en Argentina? It taste a lot malta. The only difference is kvas is less sweet and and little sour, if get some malta and add a tiny bit of malic acid. Or you can make your own and mix it with malta.

You should try Lithuanian gubernia from a can it has good colour nice foam and it's soft and delicious
i made my own kvass but i used brown sugar because it tastes better and adds color

Juicy that’s good. Like Lidsky Kvass. It is most sold kvas in Belarus. I once tried make kvas myself, but it did tasted bad. It tasted of yeast. Not good. I am scared of making myself again, so I just buy from store ))))
I personaly dont like that much BOTTLED Kvass... its okay i guess when very cold but nothing comes close to those Street Kvass stands. I drank them only in Kiev and they are absolutly awesome.
