No real issues to report, some winters I'd be somewhat worried about leaving the vehicle away from electrical outlet (to run the coolant heater) for more than 8 hours, but I was never let down by either my Hilux Surf or my 80 Series w/ the 1HD.
Fuel consumption!! Diesels are much better on fuel. A good diesel, let's say a Toyota Diesel, will be much more reliable, especially in wet conditions. A good diesel will regular oil changes will do 500'000km without any problems. 1000'000km is common. (Don't forget to change the cambelt.) Diesels engines aren't for racing but they have huge amounts of torque so are great for towing, off road driving and moving heavy 4x4s. Outside of North America, most countries use Diesels in 4x4s.
Chrono Skateboarding and Scootering lol damn I forgot all about this video and I have no idea why I said 420..I don’t even smoke anymore lol that’s how long it’s been
Were these diesel 4runners ever sold by Toyota dealers in Alaska or is it an imported vehicle? Did you also get diesel Landcruisers (HJ60, HZJ70, HDJ80, ...)? Cheers
Sold the surf a while ago but my daily is a 98 chaser. I think they’re great when they are in nice shape, but I wouldn’t want to own a really high mileage one that could require repair since a lot of shops don’t want to help and sourcing parts can be tricky. The 1kz is a strong engine, but it isn’t absolutely bulletproof and it may need repair from time to time which can be expensive (especially high pressure fuel system parts)
You won’t regret it over here in aus you only really see ln167 and n70sHilux’s and 79 series landcruisers they go for ever mines clicked over 320000 klms and still going strong 🤙
I have a 1985 Hilux 2.4d and as soon as it gets below 15 deegrees celcius it is like trying to start it in -80. I glow mine 3 times then crank it till the battery is nearly dead before it starts then comes the soot when it starts.
Ahh... The legendary Toyota Surf. We had one a few years ago. Was a beast. Unfortunately we sold it.
What was wrong? What was glowing that you were worried about?
Patrick Wong Oh nothing, it's just that the glow plug only go on for about 3 seconds so I like to do it a couple times when it's cold.
Did you ever have any issues with the diesel in the Canadian winter? I'm think of importing one into Alberta myself.

Is there any benefit to the diesel versus the 3.4L gas?

Indestructible Toyota
I wish my 4runner had one of these in it, sweet engines!
Do you still have the truck?
Personally, I would of let it glow until I heard the relay click. Do that twice and you should be good as gravy.
Wish my terrano would start up that quick in the cold lol
Thats Toyota for ya

Land Cruiser its written JDM Toyota in the title, also the steering is RHD
they were sold in Canada
A cold start is not pre heating it mate.
What exactly did I preheat 😂 the glow plugs aren’t a block heater
The light goes out quick but the glow plugs stay on for about a minute or more
1:03
What was the temp
How do you like you're JDM? Do you still have it, would you do it again? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a diesel hilux
