  • In this video I take a walk up Anawrahta Road in Downtown Yangon. Anawrahta Road is one of the main roads in the downtown area of Yangon. Along it you will see a lot of street life. It is a busy street with many street food stalls. On the day I recorded this video there was also a gay pride parade.

    I enjoy your videos. Especially the ones you educate the viewers of architectural historical land marks. Thank You from York, Pennsylvania, USA.

    I have been watching your Yangon videos and would like to say how much I enjoyed all of them. I am a native of Myanmar but have been living in the United States since 2011. I left Myanmar way back in 1978, but have been back many times to visit old friends and relatives. However, since I moved to the US I haven't been back and everybody tells me how much the city has changed. I can see that from your videos and from other people. During the 40 years outside my homeland I lived and worked in several different countries and was fortunate to have traveled to many others (45 so far). However, Myanmar will always be my home and Yangon my hometown. Thank you for the video uploads. Are you going to tour other places in Myanmar? I am assuming you're working in Yangon. Thanks again!

      Hello Cho Sett, Thank you very much for this comment. I am happy that you find the videos enjoyable - especially considering you are a Yangon native. You are right I am working in Myanmar. I started this year in August and am here on a 2 year contract. I hope to make a lot of videos documenting life in and around Yangon while I am here and I appreciate feedback from people who know the city better than I do. Both good and bad feedback is welcome.

    Thanks for sharing 1da4 videos from my motherland !! I felt as if I were walking on those street along with U. Appreciated that you recorded street sound as it and added no background music. Have you been walking in the Yangon University including Inya Lake and the food stalls ? Thanks again and Merry Christmas to U from a Burmese-American.

    Thanks for letting us know more about Yangon, which I think kind of like Thailand. Do you have any plan going back to Thailand? Hope you have a good day my friend.

    nice walk mate,,,,those eatery you mention which is hole in the wall is almost like a prime real estates in new york city times square area,,,lol,,,and they are consider pretty good food and well reputable eatery,,,A lot of these old bldg. got to get knock down due to safety issue but burma is lack of that,,,,good luck mate in your stay in burma,,,I do enjoy the video because when I walk to china town or around yangon I couldn't film cause the excruciating weather is one thing and the traffic,,I said traffic because the sidewalk is packed with people like a sardine cans so you have to walk down on the streets where the cars are,,lol,,,peace out mate,,,enjoy...oh,,one more thing,,,the gay pride is not gay pride parade ,,they are gay but at this time there is some kind of myanmar festival where they donate do good deed for human kind and I think they are asking for donations,,I think,,,,lol

      Hello Nanpya, Thanks for your comment clarifying what the "gay pride parade" was for. The guy dressed up with the mask and full body costume did a good job - he kept dancing even though he must have been boiling in that outfit as it was a hot day.

    I do enjoy your videos. You asked for feedback and so here's one. Your info on "gay pride" was not correct. Gays and Lesbians are tolerated apart from being looked down as 'poor souls'. They even have an annual official beauty contest. Have never heard of anyone being imprisoned for being LGBT.

      Hello Koko, You are probably right that the law punishing homosexuality is rarely - if ever - enforced I should have made that clearer. However, I still think my statement that it is easier to be gay in Thailand is true. Thailand has no laws prohibiting homosexuality which makes a difference.

    • @koko140872
      @koko140872 5 років тому

      @@EatSleepYangon Yeah I agree. To be gay in Thailand is far far better than in some countries. In one wealthy neighboring country, sleeping with the same sex, having anal intercourse with your own wife (if found out) or walking naked in your own apartment (if someone reported) can send you to jail.

    8:42 My parents r from Myanmar and it's not illegal to be gay anymore, even some celebs there r gay...

    • @kevinburley7030

      ...as if being a celeb makes them authoritative examples to follow. Maybe according to modern laws it’s legal, and that’s just because those laws are made by weak minded people...but naturally it’s always illegal and sinful, and no living being can ever change it.
