    LYRICS
When I was growing up not long ago though it seems like it’s so far away
We played under the sun we didn’t plug ourselves in were made to pray at the end of the day
Now everything changing these people aren’t real and our children are dying
Cuz they’re hard and don’t feel and its lie and its cheat and its steal and its kill
And its mothers go bury your sons
All I smell is smoke when I step outside
And the mountains keep crying cuz were burning alive
And the people fight the people like they forgot we were equal
Remember when cowboys were cowboys and only children played pretend
Remember when a man was a man not a product or a title or a brand
Now everything’s changing these people aren’t real and we have no heroes
    They’re pink in the middle
They don’t say what they mean they don’t do what they say they won’t stand here and die for it
All I smell is smoke when I step outside
And the mountains keep crying cuz were burning alive
And the people fight the people like they forgot we were equal
And the shadows from the buildings just kill the trees
And the only thing we’re good at is spreading disease
And the people kill the people like they forgot we were equal
Remember when we hadn’t a worry and things just moved slower now
We weren’t in such a hurry
And we weren’t dying so we didn’t have to bury our brothers and sisters in the dirt
Now everything changing these people aren’t real
And our children are dying cuz they’re hard and can’t feel
And its lie and its cheat and its steal and its kill
And its I die if I don’t shoot first...
And you can’t kill something that doesn’t care if it lives
And I’m sinking with my city like a captain and ship
And the people kill the people like they forgot we were equal

I second that. I live in the 517 but to see what Flint has gone through and as well as Detroit and now bits and pieces of where I live - Lansing - truly sickens me. So many there that have barely anything to survive on and yet, they do it the way they know how

A have a friend who is from the 313... She has told me horror stories of lansing and Flint..even parts of Saginaw ...and both sides of my family being from the 810... While I can't directly relate nor will I ever know what it's like to go through it for myself...I also feel like I've been there..not in my home town ...but the picture that's been painted in my head if that makes any sense

I love that they are doing things differently, makes their music have more diversity and makes it more unique. I honestly don't understand how someone could NOT like this band, they speak the truth not only about Flint but simply places that have crime. Being from Michigan, I know some spots you do not step foot in if you are a suburbian. Love this song. It's great.

"And the people kill the people, like they forgot we're all equal." I long for a world of equality. No judgement. No discrimination over things that truly do not matter at all. Our society is so broken, and I don't see it getting better anytime soon. There's too much hatred. Too much negativity. As a species, evolution is slow, but as people, it seems that our acceptance of how, or who people are is even slower. It truly does break my heart. This is coming from someone that barely remembers how to feel. What the fuck happened to us? When the fuck does it end? When do we finally learn that we're all the same? We all feel. Words and judgement cuts to the bone. We all deal with things in different ways, sure, but we're all trying to deal with something. I am truly sick of society and the segregation. How people have to fight to be either heard or accepted. This is not how things should be. This is not how we should be. We are living in truly fucked up times. Politically and socially. I long for an end to all of this, but, truthfully, I know as well as you do that this won't ever happen. Ending that rant on a very negative, but also very true statement. We need to sort ourselves the fuck out.

    •  4 роки тому

This is the end of an era. Equality is a hijacked concept. Respect for the sub-species of man has been violated in favor of greed. This is the result of evil. We must truly bow to the state of natural order in order for happiness and positive creativity to flourish. Only then can we 'evolve'
