Agreed! I'm a BMW fan but that S class is something else. Just recently seen spy shots of the next gen 7 series and the interior is not much different to the current 7.
A comparable gasoline engine seven series would dip way below the indicated mpg numbers if it was driven with the same, stop light, acceleration as the diesel has. The diesels tend to be more true to their mpg numbers when driven by "normal" people, especially in a car this heavy. The real life savings are greater than $88/year I am sure.
Numbers mentioned are 730d numbers (255 bhp), 740d/ld has 313 or 306 bhp, or maybe I'm wrong and specs and designations are not the same in Europe and US.
That little 'DSC Off' is just a reminder that 'Dynamic Traction Control' is activated. When you first switch to Sport+, the car lets you know you're in Dynamic mode, but that text disappears after a few seconds and all that remains is the little 'DSC Off' icon. It lets the car move around a little bit more before coaxing it back in place. All BMW cars/coupes have had this feature for a couple years (it debuted on the 3-Series in 2012).
I love Brian Cooley. He really knows what he's talking about, is very informative and is fun to watch. I'm subscribed to everything you do, but is there something more I can do to support you? -Mark (Columbus, Ohio)
Why am I noticing interlacing on this video? is that normal? On topic, what's the point of digital gauges if you're going to put artificial lag into them?
when would "new" 7-series come out. i think the interior is now dated and boring in comparasion to the redesign S class. Now the S class interior is just spectacular and so much better than the "old" 7-series..any news on that yet
Here it is... www.motorauthority.com/news/1029117_2016-bmw-7-series-leaked www.bmwblog.com/tag/2016-bmw-7-series/ www.carscoops.com/2014/12/2016-bmw-7-series-exposed-completely.html
Wow, at $83K this stretched 740 is bargain priced compared with the competition from Mercedes, Audi, and Jaguar. Yes, it's a generation behind the others in interior accoutrements. But I'm betting a lot of boomer-generation buyers prefer the traditional BMW layout. And if the diesel power plant enhances driveability as Brian describes, herein could be the thinking man's Euro luxo-barge.
The price premium of $1,500 is pretty much a non-factor and I know this because I used to sell cars, a customer will easily get a higher discount than that if they are serious about doing a deal and they push for one. I wish the current reviews could be longer and more detailed.
You're right. I use to sell cars too. As long as you can show value on anything in a car, they'll pay the premium. Plus, most buyers in this segment are well educated on what they want.
Hey guys the pic of the turbo cutaway is clearly showing two turbos :-) heck BMW puts 3 on some diesels I've been told :-) Sorry I had to be that guy :-)
Also, gas is not at 'historic lows'. Except for 2004-2008 and 2010-2013, gas is as expensive as it's ever been. Including those periods, it's still more expensive than its historic average. instituteforenergyresearch.org/analysis/prices-are-dropping-but-gas-is-still-historically-expensive/
I cant understand why are the cars in American much cheaper than in Europe (especially German cars). For less money you get more power and more standard features. For example, an Audi Q7 is 10,000$ more expensive in Europe and you get much less standart features. (no xenon or led light, no nav...)
Roller sail You haven't been to very many car factories in Europe I take it then. Manual labourers in Europe are no more intelligent than those in Mexico or America, regardless of their wages. The people in factories who do the menial tasks robots can't be bothered to do, will invariably inhabit the lower rungs of the socio economic, and intellectual ladder, location doesn't factor into it. It's a simple fact of globalised capitalism.
Roller sail wow euro elitist much? european economy is absolute shit compared to america. europeans have to deal with much higher taxes and far less personal space
Cooley is looking slick today
This presenter is hands down the best. Great work.
This car just fades next to the "S Class". And that from a BMW fan.
To be honest I agree, however I always perceived the 7 series to be the more 'sporty' choice of luxury exec
This is the car for you!
Agreed! I'm a BMW fan but that S class is something else. Just recently seen spy shots of the next gen 7 series and the interior is not much different to the current 7.
3 and 5 are their expertise, not 7. Benz's expertise is S. They are very different cars for different purposes.
I thought someone was hiding in the backseat, then I saw it was his suit jacket lol!

That’s a great point
Exactly. I chose a BMW 320d over a comparable 320i as the diesel was quicker and actually lived up to its fuel economy claims (65mpg)
Numbers mentioned are 730d numbers (255 bhp), 740d/ld has 313 or 306 bhp, or maybe I'm wrong and specs and designations are not the same in Europe and US.
I think you're right
In the USA x30d engines are called x40d. For some reason BMW decided to change it. (Only in the USA)
Predicting the future at the end there.

I know it's a car review, but Cooley is looking BOSS in that suit.
Brian cooley is the best in cars review especially when he does for Bmw
Another great review.

Well just going have to wait 3 years until like most bmw's fifty percent depreciation and then buy it.
Looking sharp big daddy!!!

What was Cooley talking about with that Tach? It reads a 5K redline in the video. Typical BMW diesel
as the biggest bmw fan ever... this is the only bmw where id rather have an mercedes or audi instead
In my county this BMW costs $100k, one gallon of diesel is $4.2 and average monthly salary is $480
Migrate
branot89 thats pretty much what it is in the US....
Why don't reviewers ever consider the resale value, the e90 BMW 335d is still worth a fortune.
Cooley likes it, therefore, I likes it.
Simple as.
Cooley Style.

Cuz in Europe we pay a lot of taxes

Is it true that muscle cars are expensive in europe
Roller sail wow euro elitist much? european economy is absolute shit compared to america. europeans have to deal with much higher taxes and far less personal space
You guys got to get a new camera or something. The output looks awful.
Diesels are usually only good for people that drive a lot, I mean really a lot or trucks of course
In Europe we get 319 ps.
Nice
Hehe, here it is
Mercedes sclass all the way
Yet, they axed it for 2015
"The D" lmao
B
looks like poop compared to the new S class
BMW is shit.
