I took advantage of the sale too, bought 4.5 pounds and applied my $5.00 mperks coupon. I cooked it as taco meat, measured in one pound increments,so I have three individual packets for the freezer and the rest( unmeasured) we will eat with beans and rice. So happy to have snagged this deal. I'll make meatballs the next go.
Hi Kristen! The 2 gallon freezer bags was a great tip! I had never even thought about that. We have a big chest freezer & I hate when you put stuff in & then many hands are going through it & then all of a sudden no one can find certain items. I also realized from watching you that I don’t need to put my burger in freezer safe bags. I too can just put it in sandwich bags, as we rotate through it fast enough that I don’t have to really worry about freezer burn. Thanks for the great tips!😁
YES! That is the hardest part of having an extra freezer...keeping it organized! 😁 The 2 gallon bags have been a huge help for me and I hope they help you find things easier too!
I use press n seal for all my meat. I buy in bulk. You can get most all the air out and double wrap the gallon freezer bags. Drop in cloth grab bags rack labeled pork, chicken , steak and ground beef. Never had problem with freezer burn. Save lots of money.
Thanks, Kristen. I really enjoyed this vlog, and the 2 gallon bags are great 👍 I have a lg chest freezer and a thing I do is the bags that tj Maxx sells at the cash register they are usually 99 cents ,I put like things in them and you can just pull out ,they are very sturdy. Now, we need to see what you do with chicken . Hope you have a great weekend ❤️
I absolutely LOVE that idea, Terry! Especially for a chest freezer. That makes so much sense to store them in large bags that you can easily grab and pull out when you need it. Thanks for sharing that idea! And ha. Yes! I thought the same thing about chicken. Next time I stock up on chicken, I'll make sure to do a video about that process too! ☺
I cook and meal store for my family now but did not grow up doing that. My mother was amazing but a single mom who had to work a lot. I am able to be home with my kids more-just working part-time, but want to contribute by cooking and saving money thru meal preps, couponing/deal shopping, etc. I learned most of my coming and meal preps from UA-cam. I wish I’d had this video 10 years ago starting out. You explain so well without being demeaning. I love your Kroger videos so much weekly as well. I love the couponing/saving money family of UA-cam and that we can all learn of each other. Also, while I do know how to do this now-the 2 gallon trick is amazing :) thank you for the tips, god bless!
Thank you, Nicky! You are right! UA-cam is a great place to learn so many different things, and I am glad to be part of the couponing family too! Thanks so much for joining me here...and sharing part of your story! ❤️
Great tips. I will freeze the raw meat in small packages also. For our family I cook up the ground beef with onions, green peppers and black beans (stretches the meat) and taco seasoning and the freeze that in meal size amounts. I also like to precook meatballs and then freeze them. The burgers I freeze raw as well like you do. Once in awhile I will do meatloaf (mixed with ground pork).
That sounds like a great combination to cook up and stretch your meat further. Love it! And yes! I do meatloaf on occasion too. So many different ways to prep meat, and all of them helpful! 😄
The easiest way to brown ground beef is to spread it on a sheet pan or similar and brown it in the oven. Use a knife or a bench scraper to chop it quickly apart then portion for preserving however you like. Just one more quick step added to your cooling the cooked ground beef on a sheet pan. Thank you for sharing. I had never thought of using 2 gallon zip bags so that was especially helpful.
Thanks for that idea, Linda! I have never tried browning it in the oven but will definitely try that next time. Glad the 2 gallon bag tip was helpful. It's been a huge organizing help for me!
You’re saving time and money! Thanks for the two gallon bag idea. I use press n’ seal for freezing and it really helps to keep the meat fresher. I haven’t precooked ground beef yet.
I have heard others using the press and seal! I will have to try that some time. And glad I could help with the 2 gallon bag tip. It's been a great way to keep a bit of order in my extra freezer! 😁
I like to make meatballs and package them up in batches that we need for a meal. Also meatloaf, I like to have a few ready in the freezer. Good video, thanks!
You're welcome! So glad it's helpful! I make meatballs and meatloaf sometimes too. Haven't done it in too long! Next time I find a sale on ground beef, I am going to make some again!
I really am intrigued by the concept of a vacuum sealer...but am frugal so haven't taken the plunge yet! 😂 Plus, every time I think about it, I get overwhelmed by all the brands and options and don't know which one to choose! 😬 What kind do you have and do you like it?
I use a scale to measure our meat. I know how crazy but it find it easier. I used to a little less than a pound but now we use a pound because if we are doing taco meat the I save into taco pizza or enchiladas later. I normally do the frozen one pound chunks. I don’t have a food saver either. I just use the quart bags. I cook it sometimes and I store in the plastic containers. I just made burgers when I bought meat for the first time. I used parchment paper and put in a container just like the cooked meat. I have never made them before because I didn’t used to be a big burger person. I have never made meatballs. I will add it to my list to make next time I get meat. My always did when I was a kid and I didn’t like them. We usually do ground sausage in sauce instead which I keep cooked and frozen for anytime we want to use it.
Good for you, using a scale! I have a couple times, and probably will again, at some point. And yes! A pound of taco meat always turns into leftovers for my family as well. My kids like meatballs, so we do those once a month or so. The Pioneer Woman has a good bbq meatball recipe, so I use her sauce over my regular meatball recipe. I like sweet and sour meatballs over rice, but I'm the only one in my family who does, so haven't made those in awhile. 😄 Glad to hear I'm not alone in using plastic bags for all this freezer prep!
Great tip! And yes, I think a foodsaver is on my someday list but until then, this works for me! Definitely want to stock up on meat when it's on sale!

Yay! Glad you got some on sale too, and yay for Mperks! Glad you have some prepped in the freezer too!

Very very good ideal makes it much easier to stock up 😊❤
It really does! And it makes dinner prep so much faster! 🙌
I've been doing this for years too😅
I like having it cooked ahead and baggied up. Makes cooking so much quicker later on.
Good job! 👍 😊
I agree completely! Having a quick dinner of Tacos, when the ground beef is already cooked, saves me SO much time and stress! 😁

Great idea! I just got some press n seal and tried it with pork chops! It worked great! I will definitely have to try using it on more meats!
Thanks, Kristen. Great tips & a snag on the hamburger meat @ $2.49 per lb !! I don't blame you for grabbing the hamburger meat. ❤
It was a deal I couldn't pass up! 😁
Hey Kristen! I love your channel and all your great tips!! Blessings to you and your family!!

I have never thought to put my packages of meat in the 2 gallon bags to store them in the freezer, great idea. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome! It's a simple idea, but it's been a game changer for me too!
Nice
Thank you! I hope it was helpful! 😊

Woow! Azing ideas
😀
Good ideas. We just make three patties and vacuum seal it.

Great job! Before I got a foodsaver, we used butcher paper and ziplocs. Any way we can do it saves money when purchasing on sale.
Great tip! And yes, I think a foodsaver is on my someday list but until then, this works for me! Definitely want to stock up on meat when it's on sale!
Wow great way to put meat away 👍. Thank you
It was a lot of work, but it feels SO good to have my freezer full of ground beef again! 🎉
