While I'm technically savvy, I'll admit when it comes to teardowns like this and working with electronic components...just wow. You make it look like a simple-ish procedure but there's no way I'd be able to do that with my skills. Very impressive!

Would this have an effect on the stability per chance? I definitely want to do this because I'm constantly running into RAM limitations in my live performance projects, I cant really afford a crash mid set on stage though :o. Thankfully Akai allows for streaming from disk now (FINALLY) so my longer samples don't have to take up nearly as much RAM but this would be such a game changer giving me more headroom for all the plugins! If someone can figure out how to hook into the pci express lane of the thing and then make a pcb for that it can be possible. But the level of work it would require, no one would wanna get it done or do it themselves as it would be expensive. Assuming this thing can handle nvme speeds cause i believe it only uses a usb host like the poster above said.

Yes it was the same mpc. I stay at about 380 to 400 Celcius for my second attempt i used a preheater but i dont think it helped much. Air i keep at the max for removal and for installation i lower it to about 70 until i see it move a little then turn air up to max to make sure its flowed into place and running circles around the chip to make sure i see it wiggle. I used amtech flux and as far as the nozzle not sure it just has to be wide enough to cover the majority of the chip. You can also remove the nozzle all together. Which i refrained from trying the second time due to being afraid that i would burn the cpu but if you put some kind of heatsink on cpu (I used a large 10 peso coin) then it would be ok.

So it would take them 2-4 dollars more to double the memory on each of the devices. I do understand that when you're making a batch of 10 000 of them, it's a lot of money. But then again, is it . . really.

@@grcomputertech4139 Uhuh, OEM price is likely the same for both parts. Usually companies are looking to sell their stuff, as a result they don’t really care what the changes they do to their hardware does to the value of their old stuff. But, considering MPC is more of a studio rather than a live instrument, not sure if there actually is much benefit to be had from the extra ram. My MPC 1000 has 128mb and I’ve never ran out of it 🤷‍♂️😁

I dont have that kinda money but i guess it could be possible. There would be contracts involved though. And seeing how there isnt high demand for this at the moment i dont see why risk buying thousands before knowing people will buy. Also there would have to be a way to get the original OS installed on the new modules. Plus again im not wealthy 😆

The ram is limited to 4gb but in the future i will try upgrading the emmc to 256gb and see how that goes. Which could help with the longevity of the device as well as faster project loading for important projects/live sets that people may want to prioritize and send over to the emmc instead of one off quick sketch idea projects.
