1:01 it's simply phenomenal that Kelvin, who was no more than 12 years of age at the time, stopped the song to call out the entire crowd at Sunsplash for not appreciating the music enough. So badass
That’s because they were playing to a backing track, the only thing live was the lyrics, until the member introductions. If you look carefully during the song the lead guitarist doesn’t have his fingers on the fretboard during an obvious guitar run. When the camera is on the keyboards the kid is playing like he’s Liberace but you can’t hear a single note live. They definitely had the feed for the instruments turned down/off during the song.
@@rapman5791 idk if you’re talking about the kid as the lead guitarist but if you are, you’re wrong. He was playing the rhythm by skanking, that’s why his hands doesn’t move that much and plus, i don’t hear any lead guitarist in here since there’s no high pitched guitar sound
I was 6 when this nice song was recorded. I live in Brazil and at that time I could just memorize few parts of it but I never heard that again. Then I spend my entire life looking for this song, now in 2021 I came accross with this beautiful reggae on internet !!!
These kids are amazing... To be so young singing and playing instruments... Kelvin was right to call out that crowd for having no energy while the group performed!!!!!
This song is all about my happy childhood ,,with my parents and my family, now they mother and my father has passed, and I miss them a lot,and this song is about my childhood with my family ,,
When I hear yhis beautiful dong I remember myy brither walking all over the apartment and singing, pass the dutchie, pon the left hand side 🎉...I believe he was 8, or 9 and I was about 10. Our childhood was splendid. ❤ This is my bro jan
That was never a bad performance for their ages. Singing and playing their instrument at that age is no mean feat. something that even the Jacksons and New Edition never did. Again that was a slow reggae piece.
+hektore ridoutvi Michael(Keyboard) and Dennis (Vocals/Percussion) still perform with a new band Muusical Youth30. Seems others had personal issues and are not with the band. Patrick(bass) is late.
British-Jamaican pop/reggae band, 1982 Grammy-nominated single. This song is about a pot used for cooking. Mighty Diamonds performed the song first "Pass The Kouchie" cannabis!
2024 and i am still loving it like the 1st time - My heart melts every time I hear Musical Youth Play - Just so Sad what happened to them not making any money out this .
Kelvin surely knew the crowd wasn't moving because of the tempo they are playing this tune at..they play this tune at a much slower tempo live vs the studio version so the crowd was expecting a faster tempo
Muito show mesmo. Vibro até hoje com a homenagem que os Paralamas fazem a eles na Melô dos Marinheiros. Faço questão de acentuar a parte deles(Musical Youth), nas rodas de violão com os amigos.
Dutchie is slang for a Jamaican cooking pot used to make rice and soup etc. And by "Pass the Dutchie" they mean share food, or pass some along [to others that don't have], "How does it feel when you got no food". Lately, "Dutchie" refers to weed rolled in cigar paper. But in the song they're referring to the cooking pot/food, if you will.
My friend, in 14 years nobody has explained. Dutchie has always meant cooking pot. When u say dutchie is a spliff u got it mixed up with kouchie which is a chalice(pipe)what rasta smoke weed out of
The original song is by the Mighty Diamonds called Pass the kouchie. The song is based around Rastafarian use of cannabis. I think as Musical youth where a band made up of kids that they made up another word. So it seemed they were not singing about drugs.
The ability to stop a song at any time or changing the rule at the field of play was actually one of the things that attracted to Raggae. The first time I heard that,I was blown away. The song was phenomenal when it was released all over the world.
am glad to hv found it now...searched it so long without knowing the real name of the song....it was a part of my childhood...don't know even why and how...I was born '78 and greew up in the east germany...music wasn't free in this way...but yeah , I'm happy now to chare it ...thanks

I agree with you. If you hear the original recording, it sounds a bit faster. They played a slower tempo because like you've said, they were probably nervous, but great performance!
macdaddy mandalorian dutchie means cooking pot the original was pass the kouchie but it wouldn’t go right with white Americans so they made pass the Dutchie
Hey these were very talented young british kids in the early 80s. They were not left by the reggae wave as the took it upon themselves by learning to play their own instruments. They were inspired by Mighty Diamond's hit song," pass the kutchie" and they remixed and renamed it "pass the dutchie".Bigs up to whoever uploaded this video. I know one of them died of drug-related death and one joined a reggae group, who knows what happened to the rest of the group?
'Cause the spirit of Jah, you know he leads you on There was a ring of dreads and a session was there in swing You could feel the chill as I seen and heard them say Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side It a good burn, give me music make me jump and prance It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance
Same old story for many bands, the hits dried up, record company dropped them, band split. The Bass player turned to crime and died at a very young age from an undiagnosed heart complaint, leading to the untrue rumour I have heard that he was killed joyriding. Two of the band still perform occasionally as Musical Youth.

His brother Michael was nasty on the lead keyboard so tute tiny
Phenomenal. They sound exactly like they do on the record. Very talented kids.

Completely under appreciated by the crowd, they performed fantastically!!!! These guys were so so talented!!!
Crowd not worthy.
saw Slightly Stoopid do a great version.
This crowd is incredibly passive, considering the amazing talent they are witnessing!
Hervé Binnert they’re all high 😅
Lol high and then the music is slower than the video. This world would work the hell out of any age. God Bless in the name of Yeshua HaMashiach
they were a novelty considering the lineup at the 83 sunsplash. they got a much better reception than should have been expected.
Mate listen to the whistles at the end. They won them over. Whistle frenzy over the keyboardist. Just listen again
Super leuk en super goed, jullie moeten meer muziek gaan maken.
little dude just restarted the concert for everyone to move more lmao what a boss
I'm still amazed how talented these guys are! This remake was HUGE when it was released when I was a kid.
the mighty diamonds wrote the song not musical youth and they change the lyrics. they have no talent they never had hit songs on their own

It's called a cover and they released many good songs.
