The special 2002 show is performed by Chicago in New York City. The legendary rock band took the stage without a preplanned setlist. Instead, Chicago allowed listeners across the United States to call in or email requests. Celebrating 35 years of making music, Chicago performed 14 fan favorites in their Live By Request concert special for the A&E network.
Chicago band member lineup: Robert Lamm - vocals/keyboards, Lee Loughnane - trumpet, James Pankow - trombone, Walt Parazaider - saxophone/flute, Bill Champlin - keyboards, Jason Scheff - bass guitar, Tris Imboden - drums, and Keith Howland - lead/acoustic guitar.
DVD Review: Chicago is the kind of band that seems to have been around forever and it appears they really have. This show celebrates the band`s 35th Anniversary, filmed in 2002. Remarkably, they have managed to keep a substantial part of their line-up. Noticeable absentee is original frontman Peter Cetera who left taking his superior vocals with him in 1985.
The key to the magic of Chicago seems to be their use of a horn lineup as opposed to the traditional guitars. They once toured as the opening act to Jimi Hendrix so they have serious music credentials.
The show was made by the A&E network. Fans were invited to phone in and request a #chicago favorite from the whole 35 years in between the host chats to the band and go over some of their histories. It is also interspersed with congratulatory messages from various celebrities.
One of the greatest bands assembled. The world missed it if they did not see Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire when they went on tour. I grew up admiring the original drummer.
Saw them in Milwaukee outdoor with lightning and thunder then indoors. Awesome shows. About 18-20 musicians at times playing together. Crazy
Anyone, like the video by Peter Cetera states, who thinks Chicago can't write good songs needs his/her head examined. Every song the writes has beautiful lyrics and great music, all very heart-felt.
Peter didn't say the band couldn't write good songs. He said the drugs and substance abuse in the band were the reasons the band couldn't come up with good songs. It was David Foster who told them the songs weren't up to the level of what he loved about Chicago. That rebuke was really what saved the band.
Thanks for the music guys! RIP Mr. Terry Kath!
What a tragedy 😢!! It still breaks my heart.
The poor band members who had to deal with that traumatic event. My heart goes out to them. Peter had a hard time with that. Poor guy😢.
Life goes on and the pain lessens some what.
I was at this show in N.Y. City 2002....HAD A GREAT TIME! ❤❤❤
CHICAGO # 1....💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Cut my teeth on CTA way back when, and they've proved to the world ever since that brass has a true place and calling within rock-n-roll. Have seen them with many of the legendary bands they did shows with, like Earth Wind and Fire, and others - even the Beach Boys! I remember watching this show live and being glad the band was doing it for their fans! Only sad that Terry Kath left us way too soon, RIP Terry!
Simply beautiful music back in the days we have been blessed ! now listen to good times with even more joy...
Terry Kath was Chicago, man I miss him even now I tear up when I think of the impact the band had on me when times were really hard to handle. R.I.P Terry Kath much love and respect
Brings back so many memories from the radio days while cruising. 👍♥️
Oh yes!
I liked the early Chicago late 60s early 70s. Blood Sweat & Tears too.
Chicago🤭
まだ現役でやってるのが凄い👏👍🤣❣️

Chicago has so many hits to make requests from!
Miss Walter, hope he's in good spirits; our prayers are with him . . .
Kath,Lamm, and Cetera on Vocals was something!!
I saw them a few years ago. I was very i'll, hör temperature, sweat, bad feeling. But it was a MUST SEE!!!!!!! For two hours I wasn't ill anymore, I was happy. One of my best rememberings.
You can't stop rock and roll!
Good For You !! You Had TO Go.You Would Have Regretted For Ever!!
Thanks for the video. I saw them once about 10 years ago when they toured Australia. The popularity of Leonid & Friends is testament to how many people love the music and songs of Chicago.

I just saw them here in Lubbock tonight. Last stop on the 2022 tour. Awesome show, great finale with 25 or 6 to 4!! 😁👍🎶
Very cool!
The best, this is what music sounds like with great songs!
Congratulations for Chicago ❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊 & happy anniversary 35" year ?. ❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊
Yes! Thank you!
Chicago has the best of all vocalist! Cool, soothing voice of Mr. Lamm, Rock from Mr. Champlin and power ballad from Mr. Sheff. Thanks guys.
Chicago👌👍🎤🎸❤️😃
Such a great song about shooting heroin.
Love love Chicago ❤❤❤❤❤✨🎶🇺🇸 Depoe Bay, Oregon😎
I still prefer the original Chicago with Terry Kath - R.I.P.
Absolutely!
This is not Chicago, only 3 original members. I saw Chicago in 1977 beforre Terry died, haven't seen them since. Your right, not the same without Terry or Peter.
@@judge5775 David Foster sure fucked up a great band. He's pussified many of the great ones.
@@user-cr2yz6kj9zFunny how that works. The Doobie Brothers in 80 or 81 had Pat Simmons as the only original member but Micheal McDonald was able to carry them with a whole new sound till they hung it up. They managed to sell tickets….Of course they would get back together later. Simmons and Johnston are all that remains now .. Since this was recorded even the replacements have been replaced a few times. Robert Lamm as of a few months ago is MIA. No word anywhere about him..That leave’s Lee on trumpet and James on trombone…
Time to call it quits…
Me too dude but...
This concert is the best! I love Chicago and their music
Thank you so much for wonderful music I really like to listening and miss sweet house in Garland Texas.
Thank you so much for posting this. I'm back to listening to them again and can't get enough! Never was a Peter fan until I found my favorite song, Happy Man, and fell in love with him! Funny, as I'm 64! An old woman listening and dancing while washing dishes, doing laundry, anything! I love Chicago all over once more. But now I can appreciate them! I'm on the side of the fence that believes they weren't good without Peter! Sorry, if I hurt anyone's feelings! He just made everything so much better! Listen to Happy Man, again. Hard to find. Again, thank you.
I just want to say one more thing, the horn sections of Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, and Blood Sweat and Tears. These three horn sections were the baddest I've ever heard. I saw C., E.W.a F. in concert two times each. I had the privilege to see Terry Kath perform, and Maurice White for E.W.a.F. the greatest musicans to ever put a band together. Honorable mention to Jimi Hendrix,Eric Clapton, Steve Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Page, and Eddie Van Halen.
Massively good! Huge. Loved it!
A great piece of Music
I SAW THIS!! IT WAS Fabulous!!

Agradezco mucho respuesta en español
These By Request shows were so much fun. That story about Hendrix!! Had no clue. I was hit by them at 8 years old with "24 or 6 to 4" (like the guy was hit by "Make Me Smile") and wouldn't have appreciated the connection (and the story about Elvis was also hysterical). Thanks so much for posting this.
Getting ready w oldie 8 tracks music to bring to chicago concert may 20, 2024,- Springfield Mo
Way back in the day it was said Chicago had arguably the best three-piece band within that group. Kath, Cetera and Seraphine were absolutely awesome. The rest of Chicago wasn't shabby either.
Song Request to the audience!
Nice...
"Wah wah!
But I'm the host of the show!
😂
So awesome one of my all time favorite bands the musicality is all around fantastic
Wow Simply Amazing. Each singer is better than the last.
I have been a big fan of the band since the sixties and nothing has changed for me. The only thing I wish is that the brass section got more time on the tracks.
Ameeennn!! Oohh yeess JESUS CHRIST IS GOD, MY GOD🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I was at this concert and saw them every year since they were called Chicago transit Authority up to 1975

I’m 74 and saw them every year from Chicago transit authority to 1975 great band
❤Thank ❤You❤😊😊😊😊😊
How is it that the original members look much younger than their years? Great songs, great show!
When I watch this, I can't help but get nostalgic & think about Terry Kath & of course the rest of that magnificent 7 band! Btw, luv'd Robt. Lamm singing Color My World which was originally sung by Kath. Beautiful!
This has been the soundtrack of my life the one and only CHICAGO….

The guitar solo on 25 or 6 to 4 was spot on.
Super!☝️👍
Love you keith
They were never going to, but it would have been fun to hear In Terms of Two.
It looks like they tried to do as little of the Cetera written tunes as possible . In terms of two -had no horns. Just saying.
I love you😍❤❤❤❤❤❤💋💋💋 god blessing 🙏🇲🇽🇱🇷
I remember watching this on tv.I was such a big fan I flew to Toronto in 1975 to see them at the CNE.Sadly, their energy, songwriting and originality lasted only so long, like most bands. However I believe they are doing a disservice to their legacy as they continue to be wheeled out with replacements being substituted for replacements. They are old and tired. They should call it a day.I prefer to remember them as when I first saw them live in Winnipeg in 1972.I still remember their encore:25 or 6 to 4 and Danny Seraphine’s amazing drumming on I’m A Man.
They sell out their concerts to this day.
WoW thx
