Lovely memories. And those vintage Airfix, even if not so engineered as nowadays kits, have a special "feeling" that brings it really close to the real thing.
Wow, brings back memories, I built this kit in 1970 for my 12th birthday. I ended up getting the whole series i.e Hawker Hurricane , Spitfire and P51 Mustang. I then wrote to Airfix asking them to please make a FW 190 but never did get one.
Nice one Mark - I only built the Spitfire as a boy and that wasn’t a very good kit for lots of reasons. I recently did a full build with videos of the Airfix Hurricane and really enjoyed that. It’s in www.scalemodellingnow.com The Bf109E to follow later this year ☺️ Best wishes Geoff
Funnily enough I've just been watching a video on Greg's Models channel, a build of an earlier release of this very same kit. I shall be trying to get hold of one (or two) plus the Mk I Hurricane to join the Stuka already in the stash. Thanks for the video Geoff
Nice one Matt - I did a huge build with many videos for the big Airfix Hawker Hurricane in www.scalemodellingnow.com last year and plan something similar for this Bf109E this year :)
I have reciently got back into my models and although I am mainly an armour builder I decided to take on this kit (: I got it at a deceased auction) out and give it a go. no plans, tires or decal sheet but I will make a plan. if anyone could direct me to a set of e plans I can download it will be majorly appreciated. kind regards Dave Phelan
@@geoffcoughlin7310 I built one about 10 years ago. I have a second one I want to build as a super detail kit. Then next on the list a the Airfix FW 190 in the same scale.
Hi - yes, 1:24 has only really been adopted for aircraft by Airfix. Their recent DH Mosquito and Typhoon are superb and very definitely a massive step up from these earlier releases. That's what makes some of them really fun to build, like this Messerschmitt Bf109E (hopefully and to be a full build in www.scalemodellingnow.com) and their Hawker Hurricane (full build in www.scalemodellingnow.com). Their Junkers Ju87 Stuka was probably the best of the bunch and I'll build that too, one day, when I can get hold of an early release of the kit! Best wishes, Geoff C.
@@geoffcoughlin7310 Well.... I am still waiting for someone to release an 1/32 LagG-3 model (Sovjet WWII fighter). And some kits, like bombers have been and probably will be rare all the time.. The main problem in my opinion is, that all the companies do not get that profit that they would like to, and therefore do not even try to bring it out....
I’m going to have to stop watching your channel Geoff it’s costing me too much money. Already ordered Airfix Firefly and Spitfire you have just reviewed and I’ve now got their 1/24 hurricane and me109 in my Amazon basket. Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks very much CTW - I think that with today's skills, these kits still have a lot to offer and I made the Hurricane for a friend of mine and he was blown away and all I did was focus on the paint job really - hope you enjoy your builds and my big Bf109E project that'll be in the schedule later this year :)
I built one of these in 1973, at age 12. Also, the Hurricane, Spitfire, and P51.
Excellent and will have to build this one. G

Thanks Pietro- that’s what these. Old kits do - evoke memories and also great to give them a go now with today’s skills and experience 😃😳

Me too Matt, Gregg got me going for a Stuka. Already had the 109, Hurricane, Spit and P-51.

I just bought one in an estate sale, pretty old and the booklet is in Japanese. Can scan it if interested
Great model!
A true Classic - just build for the fun of it and maybe some memories 😃👍

Oh wow - good luck. Love to see some photos- do send to me at geoff@scalemodellingnow.com 👍
@@geoffcoughlin7310 I'll get some pictures of the completed Bf 109 E out to you ASAP.
Presume it’s the same tool from the 70s?
Yes it is - just new decals that are very good quality
I wonder if anyone does a hispano buchon conversion kit for it to look like the one in the film battle of Britain
Hi - no not sure but I don’t think so. Not in 1:24. Try the Hannants website and search on that - might throw something up? GC
1:24 scale is getting rare.. There are only a few kits of 1:32 scale already..
