I was once at a party with my friends and their parents, and we were outside when I got the idea to ring the doorbell and plank when they answered. I thought one of the adults would open the door, laugh and take a picture. Well the person who opened the door was my mom. She looked at me, rolled her eyes, and then walked back inside. Okay so I always crack up when someone mentions the planking trend, because there was a period of time before this fad where my family was OBSESSED with planking; but the exercise kind! Like elbows down, hold body up on toes, and see how long you can hold it for. My whole damn family was literally doing it every day for like 3 months trying to compete who can hold the position the longest. I had shit upper body strength so I always hated having to do it. My mom, on the other hand, can hold up to 15 minutes. So imagine my confusion when planking became a whole trend.

In the 1920s there was a similar viral trend among the youth to climb big poles and sit on the top for fun, pretty much the same thing as planking except they couldn't be as creative cuz they were limited to just poles. It was called Pole sitting
remember when The Office had ran out of funny ideas and just started doing played out internet stunts to open episodes? They did parkour, they did a sing along mashup kinda thing and they did planking. Man that show really took a dive. RIP Michael Scott
