What a lovely piece of film, thank you, how many changes the line will undertake in the next year or so remains to be seen but the fact that it is coming back to life is wonderful, Okehampton Station itself is a fascinating place as can be seen at the end of the film, let's hope it keeps Southern green in the future.

Good film thanks. Definitely needs a line to Plymouth. The people of Tavistock and Okehampton would benefit greatly from a service from Waterloo. (And, of course that is NOT as an alternative to the south Devon G W R route).

Couldn't agree more Richard. If only the morons in government and at the DFT would reason with such common sense.

It would be wonderful were it to be restored to a 7 day service and extended both to Plymouth and Bude. I commuted on it first time round but only in the last days of the Okehampton-Exeter bubble car service. Sadly I personally never knew the line in its glory.

+WorldOfTransit No. I'm the grumpy git reflected in the window, at the start of the film, lugging my hiking kit down the carriage! It's a great service - hopefully it will become permanent in the near future.

Maybe it can to run to Meldon until work would begin on the line between Okehampton and Tavistock.

Ah memories..The line to Okehampton is still intact but bereft of a regular passenger service. The closure of the former LSWR line,s to Plymouth, Bude & Padstow can now be seen as one of the most ridiculous decisions made by the government of the day. A great swathe of land left to yield economically nothing..What a waste. The GW line that serves Plymouth and Penzance via Dawlish, as anyone who travels by that line will tell you,, is totally inadequate for the amount of traffic it carries...

Beeching employed very creative accounting practices to provide evidence for line closure though some lines were hopeless lossmakers others could have been saved.A retired Chartered Accountant employed by BRB informed me of this and though he did use shady methods he had a conscience about this for the rest of his life and felt it was a stain on his principles till his dying day in 1995 aged 85yrs but as we know accountants like politicians are shady people anyway.

I might be wrong but I believe the route goes from St James' Park to Okehampton.

The diagrams may well work out that way, but obviously as you can see I didn't board there. It was empty on arrival, 95% full on departure from St Davids. The second run as you can see from the numbers boarding at Okehampton was standing room only. A pair of 150's would have been more suitable.

Needs two carriages - Jeremy would really not be able to find a seat. The lack of space puts off actual and potential passengers which is not acceptable when we are trying to bring the line back to life again.

The trouble with the transport infrastructure in this country is it's shortsightedness. What they do is to make travel so expensive that people cannot afford to travel. That then gives the powers that be "It's not being used let's close it down. Look to the past and it has always and will continue into the future. Let's look at a train fare annual season ticket from Birmingham to London about to cost £12,500 from January 2022 and that's for a supposedly 90min journey. Can you imagine what that same journey would cost using HS2 supposedly a shorter journey time.
