I like the sounds of these; brings back memories from well over 40 years ago when I enjoyed watching a local farmer harvest corn in the many fields around our neighborhood.
When I was a kid my Dads company sold Fox choppers both self propelled and pull type during demonstrations I would run the self propelled and back then I dont think anybody ever hear of hearing protection, maybe that why I am half deaf today! Its sure interesting looking at these vids, I remember the Super D was so huge it was almost mythical in its proportions and I also never remember one with an enclosed cab on it? Then I see that little trickle of chopped corn coming out of the chute and almost chuckle when you compare it to choppers today who are loading semi trailers pulled by the semi tractor BEHIND them! Got to be some incredible HP out there from what I have seen?
How can anyone run that chopper without hearing protection? Good Lord, my ears are ringing from this 8 minute video. I can't imagine listening to that Detroit screaming all day and only being a few feet away from it.
I used to run a Fox Super D with a Detroit 4-71 in it. With a cab. Hearing protection was mandatory, but, surprisingly, the cutting unit made for more noise in the cab than the howling Detroit did. I see the Super D in the video appears to have been repowered with what I would guess to be a 6V-71.
