Maybe for the guest houses, you could add a second floor loft? Something similar to how tiny homes add space by creating a room that’s only 4-5 feet tall but can still include beds for additional sleeping. I’m sure little Robbie would love that growing up during visits to see you!
I'm already sad for when vlogmas is over. I am really looking forward to your videos every day. They are keeping me sane between my newborn and my almost 3 year old and all the stuff to do. Thank you! 🎄😍👍
So in the small town where I grew up, we also have a small lake. (I say small, but that's because I live on Lake Erie, so every other lake in our area is small in comparison) Anywho! They do a lake house tour, where the community can tour the houses around the lake (only the homeowners that choose to participate) There is the gorgeous cottage-y cottage (stones and wood, traditional style) and they had a loft for the kids room above the entry (tiny house, but great use of square footage) But ya. Think vertically for space too. It wasn't a whole 2nd floor, just a small loft with a bed, and a treehouse ladder.
have you thought about loft space for the guest cottages? perhaps at least one of them? you could tuck two twins up in it, either above the bedroom or above the kitchen. just a thought.
I am certainly impressed by all you manage to get done and still have that upbeat personality that we all love. I would be frazzled beyond belief having to manage all the house requires, the cottages, basic chores, and ALL the videos you must keep up to keep that money rolling in. WOW!!! I am also impressed by how many viewers keep watching each and every day seeing you talk about, plan, and work on your remodeling project. Another WOW. I suppose since I have no plans to remodel a home in the future, or care that much about the nitty-gritty details of each project, I am also amazed at how many of your faithful fans are so immersed in your progress. At this point, I mostly enjoy watching your dog dance around you when I tune in. I can't wait for your house to be done, so you can move on to other topics to video. Do you think you will ever finish this chapter of your life? I imagine endless discussions of changing this or that, or fixing stuff that broke, or repainting something that you don't like.... I'll try to be patient....
I love sketching things out to scale too. Normally it’s how I decide if I want to rearrange furniture. I use notability on my iPad so that I can copy and paste and move things around, definitely saves some time!
I like the new use of space in the cottages. Based on the little nook you could put a desk directly across from the bunk beds so even if you don't have kids, you have a little work nook if you need to work remotely from there or for kids to do homework, etc. Plus, you can have pretty curtains going across the opening so it feels like a "secret space". Kids would LOVE that.
Hello Makenna I just wanted to make you aware of some thing I have a friend that just finished her house that was built in the 40s or 50s the house had carpet throughout it she ripped up all the carpet and had beautiful hardware floors so of course she wanted to keep those the house was not originally air-conditioned it had window units she put central air and heat throughout and when she got through it was all beautiful and this house is also in Texas. They moved in to their home the beginning of the summer and to date her floors downstairs have buckled so bad, it is a pier and beam house they were told it was because of all the moisture, and they were told they would have to go up underneath the house and insulate it you may have already thought of all of this but I just see all the hard work you’re doing and didn’t want this to happen to you, good luck with everything I so enjoy watching your blogs
I think I mentioned this before; so if I did; please ignore. But rather than have a full stove in the cottages; you might consider getting a combination microwave/convection oven. It is about the same size as a normal microwave and also has a fan. It also doesn't heat up a small space the way a traditional oven will. This will make it more comfortable during hot weather and give you more room in your kitchen. And you mentioned having washer and dryer in each cottage. If you hadn't already thought of it; a stackable set will also save you room and give you more space for the extra bedding you want. I have a friend who converted a large closet into a bunk bed with twins. I love your plans and think you are on the right track with the extra sleeping arrangements. Good luck!
I’m so in love with the lighting fixtures! You should make a video with the stuff you have already for each room and make a mood bored so we can see your whole inspiration!
ahh your passion and work ethic and positivity are so infectious!!! it's so apparent that you love everything about your job from designing to building to learning to thrifting to content creation. I also love how natural and authentic your vlogs feel. it like we're hanging out! :) you're such a gem!
The only reason I’m not upset about the renovations coming to an end is because I know there are guest cottages coming. Check in with me when the guest cottages are coming to an end 😂😂
Other than sketching out and moving around furniture in my bedroom since middle school and making houses on sims i have always wanted to do more design and learn about renovation and build those skills. I love the company i work at but i want some more creative space for myself separately so dealing with depression and just peaking out of the hole now it is kind of amazing to see how much you do. But it’s nice to see how hard work(even with struggles) and enjoying it actually fits naturally together for you and i hope i can regain that balance and that more people are able to have that.
Heyy Macenna, yesterday I dreamt of you conducting the pop up shop and it was a great success that you said you'll be doing more of them soon. This is what happens when you get a dose of macenna videos daily🤭. Thanks a ton for apprearing in my dream😁
I’ve watched some tiny home videos and if you do not want to add square footage or a second floor maybe you can move the kitchen/dining to the front of the home with the living room and have it be an open space (horizontally). You can move the sleeping quarters in the back of the home and close it off. Also, A lot of people suggest a loft style and that is a great solution too!
Sorry in advance! ❤️ But pause around 10:56 🙈 can anyone else se what my crazy mind see’s? 🤪 Love your whole journey and that you share it with us! I am so excited for it all coming together 🥺🥰🙌🏻
Macenna My friend had a need for extra sleeping for grandchildren they took a corner and made bunk beds like you would find on a train, each one has electric for tables, lights so cute the kids love them, she put curtains on them, May be something to think about. Glad you had some slow down time before the siding goes up.
I'm sure you already thought of this because you're a genius but I watch so much tiny home content and the guest cottages sound perfect for a tiny home design. Like a loft space that you use a detachable hook ladder or a small staircase that has a built in bookcase or built in storage. It could be the perfect cozy cottage vibe
The work you have been putting into this renovation and your channel in general is so darn impressive. I hope you are proud of everything you've achieved. Can't wait to see what you do next!
There is a washer/dryer combo about the size of a dishwasher that can go into the kitchen instead of a dishwasher. It would free up the washer/dryer space
Bunk beds are an awesome idea. I'm renovating my mountain cabin and am adding a built in twin bed in the loft with storage drawers and a trundle. It will be a wall of custom cabinetry so the person in the bed can close it off for privacy from the open area. Otherwise, it will just look like storage.

We are in the process of combining 2 households into 1 AND a move into a new home after the holidays. A smaller home that we have now (don't need a 4 bdrm). We have been going through boxes and picking and choosing what we are keeping and what will be donated to Goodwill or other organizations. Watching your vlog has been great motivation to get things moving along and getting us into going through stuff. Downsizing and being critical in what we keep and what we donate. The only problem I have is that I collect antiques (glassware, etc.) and I'm having a hard time parting with anything. Watching your vlog and UA-cam channel has been a joy and gives me a break from the hubbub going on in my life right now. Thank you MaCenna for being there for me and for all of us. You are a joy!!
I just wanna be thrifting and diy buddies! I don't really have any family or friends who enjoy doing these things. You and your mom just have so much fun going thrifting and I just want to tag along. I'll bring the coffees! Lol.cant wait to see the cottage in all it's glory
Don't you just love how your dog wants to play when your clearly busy, but when your just chilling all they want to do is sleep?! 🤣🤣 Mine do that to me all the time.
What about maybe adding a little loft area, like in tiny homes… climbing up a ladder, to get to a bedroom. Is that possible? That would be so unique and cool. If the amount of head room allowed it. ❤️
As a biologist I can't help but state that female moose don't have antlers. That being said, you can still use the name and pronouns you like for Henry's friend!
We moved into our house in Dec 2020 when we had the whole kitchen demolished and we had the same experience last Christmas. This is the first real Christmas here and it is so special!!

Winter SUCKS AND SO DOES SNOW! sorry just the time of year and darkness and cold! -° plus windchills just to much to deal with! You are doing well for a novice renovating your house!
I know you mentioned wanting to keep all the guest cottage layouts the same but in terms of a short term rental in the future it might be a good idea to have one with 2 bedrooms so if someone had like 2 couples they could each have their own closed spaces. It would accommodate a wider variety of people. Just something to think about.
If you’re going to add bunk beds I think they’d be tucked away nicely in a closet type space so you’re not adding much more square footage and it can hide behind a pocket door if there’s less people staying there. Since there’s only 1 bathroom I think it’s more of a luxury to sleep 4 people.
I love binge-watching your channel and you are the only vlogmas I'm keeping up with. I also love (as a 90's kid) that you look so much like the Olson twins.
Hi Macenna..look forward to your blogs every day... They have a product called rub'n buff.. it might work on your light to tone the gold finish down to match the others.
On your bunkbed nook - could you work it so that each bed is in a Swedish cabinet facing each other? I always thought those were so cozy and nifty when I was a kid - like your own little camper with draperies to close!
I feel like a spiral staircase will take up wayyy more square footage in the small cottages that a ladder to the loft. If she’s trying to maximize square footage it’s probably not the best choice, despite it being a beautiful design feature.
Henry and Holly, perfect. Your mom is so cute and funny. I love your flea market/antiquing videos. I love how you love your little dog, she has been so happy with you at home with her.
You should definitely keep a couple of pairs of shorts out handy, it's Texas, winter here is fickle and we can see 80 degree days, right after it's 30's for a week, sometimes even in one day 🤣 Your enthusiam for decorating the cottage next year is infectious, I can't wait to see it!
Love the idea of the bunk beds! Would they be open to the room or would they be closed off? I ask as if kids go there then it might be a challenge to have them fall asleep if adults remain in the open space.
Do the guest cottages really need a washer & drier though? If people only stay for a couple of days or so? Maybe leaving these out could save some space you could use for additional sleeping possibilities.
I agree - putting the bunk nook in the living room makes it difficult for kiddos to go to sleep while the adults are still up. Can you find a corner some where that will be a bit more private?
Offer different bed sizes to offer a variety! Start off with a king-size on doen the line. Honeymooners are not going to stay in a cottage with bunk beds
Macenna, your vlogmas is the only thing I’ve been consistent with this season, my only stress reliever following constant night shift! Sending love from the UK ❤️🎄 …Btw does anyone know the song that’s playing in the background of the clip where Macennas folding clothes, it’s been in some other previous episodes too and can’t seem to find it 😢
Hey there. Loving my daily vlogmas fix. I had two thoughts while watching your video. I loved the lights for your guest bathroom but didn’t like the ones for either side of the mirror for the primary bathroom, especially after seeing how perfect the guest ones were. Second thought on the cottages, wondered if you could fit the bunk beds somewhere out of the way. If kids are staying you would not want them to sleep in the lounge and kitchen area as when they are asleep, parents couldn’t use the lounge and would have to stay in the bedroom in the evening. I so admire your tenacity and you are so bubbly. I’m in New Zealand, so I watch when I’m just out of bed in the morning. You sure set me up for a happy day, so thank you. Peace and love xxx
Hi! I've been following your blogs for about 2 years and this is my first comment to you but I just wanted to say I love all of your ideas. You've given me so much inspiration for my future build or renovation, whichever I choose. We are currently living in military housing in virginia so I appreciated your renter friendly updates when you were in California. We will he moving to oceanside next year for 6 years and then back home to alabama when we retire. I already have so many ideas for our home in California from your many diys and flips and such. I love your personality and how even when things mess up or get pushed back or change you handle it with so much grace and patience. I strive to have that type of attitude. Keep up all the work, I'm loving everything and all the videos for your build. Last thing, please tell me once the process is finished you will do side by side before and afters so we can see the true transformation you have made?! Thanks!!
Hi Macenna , can’t wait to see the windows in, I’m always worried about vandalism, siding going up windows, going in , oh, did you ever another sander I don’t remember if you did after you returned the reject sander? Holly is perfect 😍
You’ve quickly become my favorite channel. You check all the boxes reno, thrifting, funny, animal lover. I’ve been binging your channel

That was exactly my thought too!
Oh yeaaah a mezzanine!!
Guest cottage charm: a window seat added somewhere. A Bankette(?) Or nook.
In bedroom a bump out lg enough for a pack & play or a twin/chair sleeper.

On your bunkbed nook - could you work it so that each bed is in a Swedish cabinet facing each other? I always thought those were so cozy and nifty when I was a kid - like your own little camper with draperies to close!
Flip down Murphy bunk beds would be a good space saving option on a wall. They would be hidden when not in use.
Love the chrome desk! Your parents home is gorgeous.
Love this vlogmas so much! I look forward to it every day. Already cannot wait till christmas next year😍
I’ve never been so excited for siding…but it feels like Christmas tomorrow!!! The siding will be on 🎉
I vote a spiral stair case up to a small loft for the twin beds🙋🏽♀️
I feel like a spiral staircase will take up wayyy more square footage in the small cottages that a ladder to the loft. If she’s trying to maximize square footage it’s probably not the best choice, despite it being a beautiful design feature.

Could you add a loft sleeping area? It could over look the downstairs but still be a cozy nook area.

Add some antiquing wax to those brighter gold light fixtures. It will give you that aged brass look you love
KonMari method for clothing organizing helps for sure
Do the guest cottages really need a washer & drier though? If people only stay for a couple of days or so? Maybe leaving these out could save some space you could use for additional sleeping possibilities.
Design thought for cottages. Getting littles to sleep may be a challenge if they can see whole open floor plan from their bunk bed nook.
I agree - putting the bunk nook in the living room makes it difficult for kiddos to go to sleep while the adults are still up. Can you find a corner some where that will be a bit more private?
Glad you had a calming self care day. Love the vlogs.
Yes Henry n holly is cute n so is kensley with the overlay of adorabzness
Have you considered one of those hidden Murphy beds? They even make them that look like a cabinet. Or a trundle, or daybed instead of a couch?
Offer different bed sizes to offer a variety! Start off with a king-size on doen the line. Honeymooners are not going to stay in a cottage with bunk beds
Macenna, your vlogmas is the only thing I’ve been consistent with this season, my only stress reliever following constant night shift! Sending love from the UK ❤️🎄 …Btw does anyone know the song that’s playing in the background of the clip where Macennas folding clothes, it’s been in some other previous episodes too and can’t seem to find it 😢
In guest cottages you should do like a Murphy beds for the bunks that way if needed they have them but if not they are out of the way.
Love all of you! So much good energy ❤️ Always looking forward to some MaCenna downtime.
At the end you gave us grinch Maccena 😃🤣🤣🎄🎄🎄 but in the good way, so funny. Thank u for the Xmas mood this year! God bless u

How many guests cottages will there be exactly? Will it be available for Air B&B at all?
I'm going to go through major withdrawals when Vlogmas ends and I go back to a week between videos.
Antiquing wax will darken the bright brass!
