Pick a comp you know how to play (or one you saw in a video) and brute-force it. Once you are familiar with the game rules and the current set, try your hand at playing flexibly. Cuz that is MUCH harder to do and often overwhelms newer players. It's also the most optimal way to play, however. It's why the skill ceiling for TFT is higher than most people realize.
What I did when I played tft is just find some vertical I like and just buy every unit in it. Sometimes it works. I don't play much TFT nor am I good at that style of game since its far too random (and just cause there are ways to rig the odds it doesn't mean it isn't random). Kinda the opposite of card games where you know everything beforehand.
@dkznikolaj7013 I'm sorry, what? 🤣 Are you saying that card games are not random? Not knowing exactly what happens beforehand is precisely what makes card games in general so enticing. Sure, you know exactly what cards you have in your deck, and you may also have a good idea about your opponent's deck. But you don't know which of those cards are drawn when. In that sense, it actually feels a bit like TFT. With some experience, you know exactly what units you can find in your shop at which level. But there's no guarantee you will "draw" them from the pool, y'know?
I dont really like this argument. Card games let you at least build a deck with cards that are guaranteed to work with eachother. Any card you pull might not be the one you need right now, but in TFT you literally have the odds of drawing 5 hands in a row with nothing that acutally works with what you have right now. It's completely different, and TFT definitely feels more random than LoR because of it, simply because the randomness can have an extremely negative bias, whereas in LoR its just not the card you need right now, which doesn't feel like a disaster most of the time.
@@psclly I feel like you're missing the point I meant to make. I agree that TFT has a lot more random factors than LoR. Even outside of just the shop, there are also many different interactions that can change the game entirely. But what I meant earilier was simply that the first comment sounded like there was no RNG involved in LoR whatsoever, which is simply not true. But all that aside, I feel like it's a bit difficult to compare the two in the first place. Rerolling or slow rolling the shop is an integral part of every single round of TFT you play, whereas card draw in LoR is more of an advantage play, mainly for control decks. So one game depends on a refresh of available resources, while the other doesn't, or at least not necessarily so.

That comment about TFT having limited personalization choice is odd to me. While each trait is under a different name from set to set and stuff like that (I can't be the assassin guy every set) but there's always back line access in each set. Just under different names, but they access functionally the same game plan (kill the backline carry first) whether that's through the assassin, hacker, rogue, breakout or other traits. That applies to the other ones to. There's always a pure AP comp (mage, sorcerer, star guardian), there's always a pure mana composition (invoker, also star guardian but from other set etc), there's always an economy trait (HEARTSTEEL, fortune, shimmerscale, piltover), and lastly thers always a reroll trait (punk, yordle, void). I quite like new TFT sets for this reason! New ways of playing the same game plan. But with added variables each set
If you commit to just one gameplan (and it isn't completely broken atm) then you aren't competetiv at all. It's fun for normals or lowelo, but at some point you need to play atleast a few different meta comps with different gameplans.

But taking your interpretation i mostly agree with your comment, although some interesting traits or champs dont have an equivalent in other sets (i was the dragonmancer Nunu guy for a time in set 7. I am a bit ashamed but i also miss it...)
ways to play isn't really what I mean by personalization. unlike league and runeterra, TFT doesn't have mastery scores for champions and you can't have a "favorite champion that you play whenever you can" beause, while possible, it's likely not the optimal way to play TFT. i don't play enough TFT so take it with a grain of salt, but to me it feels like the random items you obtain kind of dictate what a favorable comp / trait would be?

That being said, plenty of people get to challenger one-tricking a specific team composition so you can be honed in on a comp. I do hope they add some way to track "mastery" with a composition though, currently it's all just word of mouth
I dont really get why they rotated the "generally good" champs like viktor, zoe, etc that fit in as a random 2nd champion. To me they were the ones with the most flexible gameplans and thats not a bad thing for design, i love that i could toss in my favorites into so many decks
If I had to guess its because 1)they rotated a lot of good generalist cards like vile feast they said they didnt want cards that fit anywhere and also a lot of viktor and zoe’s gameplan is good rng
