Yea Kelly's surf ranch well it's now owned by WSL. I didn't think they would replace this event just add an extra stop. Maybe this Fiji spot has been to inconsistent.
WSL states as much: "Indonesia is universally regarded as home to world-class waves and is a location where the League is exploring long-term opportunities for the sport. While Fiji has been a multi-year pillar of the Dream Tour and we may return in future, appropriate support from the government of Fiji is needed to bring the world's best back to Cloudbreak and Restaurants.”
Owen was always one of my favorite surfers in waves of consequence. I remember him killing it at supertubos before blowing his eardrum out. One of the best barrel riders out there.
I watched this heat live and just broke down in tears! As a lifelong surfer, I totally understand that sessions like this are a once in a lifetime deal… with or without a jersey on!
Zenagain He has been ripping since last October when I first seen him surfing again, WSL have awarded him a wild card for this year but he hasn't confirmed if he'll return yet.
Bryan Csordos I know I was watching, they should have waited till tomorrow morning with this wind. Even right now it's alot cleaner than it was in the final.
Wave :2; Not often you see an exit from the tunnel that longer after the spit. And the spit as we call in WA was big. Unusual and very cool. Congratulations Owen I'm sure you forget that view or the sound you heard in that barrel for as long as you live. God bless you mate . Col wa
Cloudbreak is the shit...really...? Isn't it? It's huge...just absolutely huge...breaks very predictably, like a perfect machine, and it's kind of gentle, literally like a cloud...it has everything...fast, barreling, gigantic, and very safe.mit's the best wave in the world. End of.
Agree, definitely one of the best waves on the planet! Not sure about the "kind of gentle, like a cloud..." bit though, can deliver one hell of a flogging if you're in the wrong spot!
watched this vid so many times, the music really adds to it. Owen Wright is a champ, hope he finds his form again cuz he was on fire before his head injury
I didn't think it needed a high energy soundtrack as it's about the surfing, plus it's a pretty historic moment so I chose something that gave it scale but music is so subjective. What would you have chosen?
Owen is almost 6'3", so anything even close to "standing tall" is a solid wave. Amazing performance but equally amazing to see how far the sport has progressed in 9yrs.
It's so tough to judge a wave out of 10, especially at this level. I suppose that's why the WSL have 5 judges on the job. Surely they couldn't have all got it wrong?
Comments about surfing, very confusing, scores aresubjective, and no more surfslang,!. dropping scores, ?? Maybe the tabulation, calculating and then POSTED, and the word Commitment, never used ONCE? But 2feet waves ,commitment was a factor in meet??? Muting ,so I enjoy the SURFING! Worst comment, I, ME WOULD want to see! sufer,do this ,that, and be the Monday quarter backing
WSL commentators are lame. He claims Wright is "stepping on the gas" when he is clearly dragging both hands stalling and then steps on the gas. I can't stand pro surfing.
You don't think so? I think the scoring this season in much smaller, far less critical waves has been overly generous, especially in the Challenger Series event at Snapper.
Incredible
What's even more incredible is that this wave has been replaced by a wave pool on the 2018 tour.
Yea Kelly's surf ranch well it's now owned by WSL. I didn't think they would replace this event just add an extra stop. Maybe this Fiji spot has been to inconsistent.
Hasn't been on tour in the past because of the politics of the region, probably the reason it got dropped as well
WSL states as much:
"Indonesia is universally regarded as home to world-class waves and is a location where the League is exploring long-term opportunities for the sport. While Fiji has been a multi-year pillar of the Dream Tour and we may return in future, appropriate support from the government of Fiji is needed to bring the world's best back to Cloudbreak and Restaurants.”
@@ChristopherLittleAUS yeah don't get me started. It's like the WSL said things are going great, how can we ruin the tour as fast as possible?
seven years on and I still get goosebumps watching this
💯 percent!! So rad.
so right, mindblowing
Doesn't get any better than that. Owens moments in time. His legacy.
I'll never forget that heat. He never seemed the same after his head injury but man he was definitely one of the best
He got those last two waves in THREE MINUTES! Insane.
It’s like the cross wind reminded him of one of his home breaks and his confidence level just went to sick mode.
never get tired of watching this vid..
Q performance do Owen Wright, Fiji classico, nessas condições é minha onda preferida de assistir rs 🌊🏄🏽♂️
Concordo, é um lugar especial!
Felt like I was playing Kelly slater pro surf watching this. Insane.
I remember watching this live. I was blown away. It’s still crazy!
Owen was always one of my favorite surfers in waves of consequence. I remember him killing it at supertubos before blowing his eardrum out. One of the best barrel riders out there.
Watched live (online) and my mind was literally blown.
I watched this heat live and just broke down in tears! As a lifelong surfer, I totally understand that sessions like this are a once in a lifetime deal… with or without a jersey on!
The Avatar, on fire! This never gets old. Historical.
O-Dub! His good nature is deceiving bc his Dark rider thing is a sweetheart! What a talent! Doing HIS thang! Beautifully!!
FIVE 10’S IN A ROW FOR IS SCORE!!! incredible
Would love to see him back on the tour. I hope he is on the way to a full recovery.
Zenagain he is on tour...
Sad that owen has retired, the barrel spit at 1:07 is probably the greatest wave i’ve seen..and it was in a comp heat which is insane. Take a bow sir
Still here in 2024 and hasnt been a perfect score in a final since! So glad cloudbreak is back on tour this year, i predict jjf and medina final 🙏
Wave :2; Not often you see an exit from the tunnel that longer after the spit. And the spit as we call in WA was big. Unusual and very cool. Congratulations Owen I'm sure you forget that view or the sound you heard in that barrel for as long as you live. God bless you mate . Col wa
Do you call it the tunnel then ?
If that's your surf lingo the I presume the 'crest' might also feature quite prominently ?
Um dos melhores eventos que eu vi 🏄🏽♂️🌊
Medina vs Slater Teahupoo 2014 foi lá em cima!
One of the greatest Australian sporting moments. Enjoy retirement mate
Incredible!!! To be Blessed by the Ocean
Owen Increibe !Dios!no alcazan las palabras !Increible!

Gentle????
100 percent not gentle - snapped my board in 2 minutes on a 5 to 8foot day.
@@johnanderson3731 lol

4 perfect 10’s with style power surfing and who are the 30 dorks that hit the thumb down icon...
The other 33 surfers on tour who he made look like learners?
Gabe Medina fans probably. I don’t even know if he was in this event
Me
Holy crap. What a roll.
Unreasonable
Song is Hunger of the Pine by Alt-J, in case anyone was wondering.
Anyone here after this year's snoozefest? lol
That 2nd wave. My god
That snap was unreal
He should've been awarded the 2015 world title based on those two heats alone.
CCCCCCouraaaageous !!!!!!
Last 10 was a streeeeetch hahahaha but Owen was on fiiiiire!!
Saw this 7 years ago & I'll say what I said then..................FAAARRRRKKKKKKKK!
Dislikes are from 10wen’s opponents
can't wait for the WSL to come back!
🙌 Oh what a feeling 🙌
He was the best in the World that year & was sad to see his year end the way it did with his crazy pipe injury.
Qualidade na musica e video ❤
What a surfer, what a gent!
He’s pretty good.
Insane
so awesome
a man among boys
Great surfing tricky conditions
Manly he is.
Nice waves
鳥肌立ちました。ヤバスギル
Imagine what Owen felt like after these waves!

RIP J. Wilson hahaha
Que monstro!
When Owen was invincible.
👌😎
Great song choice my friend! So awesome
100/10
At this point forget the comp. score some uncrowded perfection
Killer
ta fazendo falta no circuito!!
The song absolutely does not match up to the videos, should of gone without. But I Watched this event live and those waves are so sick!!!
I didn't think it needed a high energy soundtrack as it's about the surfing, plus it's a pretty historic moment so I chose something that gave it scale but music is so subjective. What would you have chosen?
Christopher Little music is perfect for this video great choice.
Martin Potter and Joe Turpel
Nobody likes you bro
Epic!
How the hell they take the venue off the tour?
Fiji is back on and from 2025, it will be the new Final 5 venue. Not sure about the timing but hopefully better than 1-2ft Trestles 🤞
I miss Potzzzz.
yeah he had energy , joe turpel had no excitement in his voice even watching an historical moment
I'm not quite clear, was he "standing tall", or no?
Owen is almost 6'3", so anything even close to "standing tall" is a solid wave. Amazing performance but equally amazing to see how far the sport has progressed in 9yrs.
i heard that he sold his soul to the devil for that event!!
Amaaazing !!
Haha highly likely. Crazy performance!
John 3:16
Eternal life indeed!
0:02 Precision
1:49 Balls
2:30 Wild
3:25 Gold
Apenas a 2 foi 10.
So heard they need a footprint maker over there! Guys, can I get it?! Anyone? Yellow?
what the fuck that second pit
surf kidi
Waves don't get better than these.
he's a charger
Il y avez un requin oui ou non
Où?
Nunca que foi 10 a primeira onda. Nunca!
Can't see nothing on my phone because of the writing.
ats how
Chicken skin so sick
That last one was an 11
Caralhoiuuuuuuuuj
Standing tall....on the mute button. Ugh.
Classic WSL overscoring as usual. None of those wave were 10 point rides for Cloudbreak standards
It's so tough to judge a wave out of 10, especially at this level. I suppose that's why the WSL have 5 judges on the job. Surely they couldn't have all got it wrong?

Such bullshit. Those were clearly 11s.
Haha I'd have to agree! Haven't seen bombs like this at an event for a while.
WSL commentators are lame. He claims Wright is "stepping on the gas" when he is clearly dragging both hands stalling and then steps on the gas. I can't stand pro surfing.
Commentary on surfing would be pretty hard. You can't be reactionary and just say "YEWWW!" after the fact.
Pipeline is A JOKE in comparison to Cloudbreak.
none of these waves would be 10s today
You don't think so? I think the scoring this season in much smaller, far less critical waves has been overly generous, especially in the Challenger Series event at Snapper.
Meh
40pts in 4 waves. Tough crowd haha
no way these would be tens these days
