Dilla was my Son’s favorite producer. He passed Nov. 12, 2022. This was His favorite Dilla beat. This was the beat He played to introduce me to Dilla. I used it as the soundtrack to His memorial slide at His viewing. 5:37 Rest on James JA Gates. Momma misses you everyday but I know you’re resting in the arms of Jesus. See you when I get there. 👑 💔

Absolutely legendary. Wish the young kids could fall in love with Dilla like we had the experience...Damn It really makes me upset knowing he's gone but I just rewind & think how positively he has changed hip-hop forever...Rest In Beats J
with the growing popularity of the internet kids will be able to find shit like this and enjoy it as much as you. Take it from me, I'm still young and ive been listening to this for years now.
The Shining is one of those albums that I like to experience more as instrumental hip-hop despite the substancial amount of collaborations present in the original release. I'm not saying that the rappers featured are bad (some are subpar but not terrible). It's just that the instrumentals, when stripped away from any external influence, really showcase Dilla's supreme talents in groove creation and sound manipulation, allowing you to hear the textures, dynamics and attention to detail he put in his beats. Countless rappers respected Dilla and he was kind enough to give them some of the spotlight, but the man himself shines the most when listened in his raw, unaltered form.
Was listening to an Isley Brothers and I was like, "This sounds like some Dilla sh*t" So I kept listening.....and when the melody changed up, I was in complete and utter SHOCK. "Don't Say Goodnight" Darn you, Dilla! You KILLIN' ISLEY TRACKS!!!
paul konkel I can agree that Premier is the greatest hip hop producer of all time. He was born in my hometown of Houston btw, but Pharrell has produced classic hip hop r&b and pop. Dilla also crossed over into r&b but I don't recall Primo making anything other than classic hip hop
I listen to this everyday now, it’s one of the most beautiful beat & sample combinations I’ve ever heard. Absolute legend and definitively the best hip-hop producer of all time, possibly the best producer of all time as his music permeates through multiple genres now, just incredible, one of a kind.

I don't know what it is, but every time I hear that piano tune drop at 3:41 some many memories of days long since passed rush me in an instant. One thing you gotta respect about J Dilla is that his production always set the mood for the message of the song once lyrics are applied... Just by hearing the instrumentals you could guess exactly what the lyrics are going to talk bout... Much love to him....
whenever this comes on, i'm immediately swept away. it reflects the bittersweet nature of life so eloquently. puts so many things in perspective. i can already imagine this bringing me to tears in the future over certain events, losses, and celebrations. remarkable piece of music, rest in peace dilla.
sometimes music reminds you of nostalgic moments you lived in ur life and this beat reminds me of one time i went on mountains with my parents for holidays and i listened to this . the beauty of the mountains and the beauty of this beat went so well together .this instrumental is like a time machine for me .

This beat is extremely emotional.

I like Pharrell. But keep in mind: "the hottest producer in the game," means nothing. There's tons of talentless crap bigger then Pharrel
Better than DJ Premier? That's for sure.
