    I fished this river when i was just 16, that was 50 years ago. You could fish the river all day and never see another soul. Failing feet and a diagnosis of cancer has left me unable to handle the wear and tear it takes to wade the river. Your videos take me back there again to those exact places i used to roam and catch so many fish. I was also there the day the young man lost his life when the water came up and of course he wasn't aware of what was going on. So enjoy the beauty this river has to offer but at the same time, call the water schedule before you go and put your mind at ease when the water will be released. Of course if your above the power house you don't have to worry about it. Happy fishing my friends.

    God Bless you young man! You have certainly sparked some of my favorite memories. In my day we didn’t have the internet let alone a Walmart. But I did what you do everyday on the crick behind the house. Smoke sparkle fat gitzit was the holy grail. I’d wade the crick every day after work all the way down to the river then hang out at the collapsed dam to play with the big smallies, then wade back to the house. Every day. I had names for my fish and could tell you where they were at any given time. 40 to 50 of my little buddies everyday…..so much fun and so many people in disbelief. This crick ran right through the middle of town. I went back in my retirement and all there is now is just small bluegills, which I use for striper bait now a days. Nothing like landing a 20lb stripe on ultra lite gear. I have all the time in the world so no rush to do anything! Thanks again Little Brother for the killer memories!

    I love the Nikko Hellgrammite lure! I know they seem pricey but here's the thing. They are super durable! I literally used the same lure/jig head setup as John uses here in May 2022 on a high pressure private pond and caught 70+ bass on one single lure, not even missing a single leg after!!! I thought about retiring it after that but then brought it back May 2023 and caught another 50+ bass on that very same lure!!! Yeah, bringing it back this July when I go there again :D The only way of losing a Nikko lure is to snag and break it!

    Hello. Your channel helps me calm down after work, and inspired me to start fishing again. I loved to fish with my Dad as a kid and after watching your videos I put the fishing gear in the truck. If I have a long lunch break or can get away on my day off, I have been going to the closest rivers, ponds, and lakes. I ordered some hellgrammites to see if the fish here would bite even though this critter does not live in Utah... apparently, bass everywhere are programmed to go after these. Caught some nice largemouth in a local reservoir. Thanks for all you do.

    I fished this stretch about 2 months ago, I caught one Smalley out of that deep hole below the waterfall on a Nikko Hellgrammite. I was trying to catch some trout mainly with crickets and spinners but no luck. This is where I saw the Otter sign....which is bad for the fishery. Glad you had better luck than I did. You are absolutely correct about the wading being rough....I can't do it without a staff.....that helps out tremendously. Thanks for sharing with us John.....I sure enjoyed it man.

    Thanks for the demo. This summer, I have been getting 10-inch and under tail nippers on the Nikko. These greedy smallies will hold on for a couple cranks, then let go. Thankfully, it is a tough lure and can take multiple hits and stretching. I have been considering running a stinger added to a rig like you shown. All of my 12+ inch smallies take the whole enchilada. I have had two 14's and three 16's this summer from my creek.

    Those rocks in that section of the Hiwassee are the slickest I’ve ever dealt with. It’s like being on ice with tap dancing shoes.
    We’ve been fishing the Hiwassee a lot this year, and I found using a telescoping hiking pole helps to alleviate that constant tension you referred to. Also allows you to probe the water before you step.
    Once I get where I’m going, I just shrink it up short and let it hang from my fishing bag.
    I’d rather have my tricep be sore than my back so I hear you brother.

    For nose-hooking soft plastics use a circle or drop shot hook. When a fish hits there is no need for a hard hookset. Simply start reeling and gently sweep the rod back into fighting position. Most of the fish will be hooked in the corner or roof of the mouth. They rarely swallow the hook. I think your hookup rate would be higher using hooks of this type rather than what you were using.

  • @edwardgerdemann2400
    @edwardgerdemann2400 Рік тому +1

    Another lure to try with those circle hooks would be a Yamamoto Senko. Fish it weightless on a wacky rig, cast it out and just let it settle down and drift with the current. I'd use the 4-inch size in the watermelon/white laminate color. I'd also try the natural shad color. I'm sure the bass in that river would knock the living daylights out of that. Be sure to use the original Yamamoto Senko and not one of the other brand knockoffs which aren't nearly as good. The Yamamoto brand is softer and has more salt so the bass will grab it and hold on. It has a bit more weight than the knockoffs and will sink a bit faster. It also has a little natural wiggle the knockoffs don't have which is what drives bass crazy. Nothing against those Nikko lures as I know they work well, but I think an original Senko fished as I have described would catch tons of fish and big ones as well.
