Also veryvtrue about the translations . I read The Iliad a lomg tume ago in a modern verse translation , and found it hard going. This time I read an older prose translation, which somehow read better to me. It definitely makes a difference. Penguin Classics are pretty reliable though. And they look good on the shelf.
@@asmrscipio oddly I liked the older translation more. But maybe it was because it was prose, and set out in an accessible manner with the chapter breakdowns etc. I liked it so much that I bought the matching Odyssey, which I've only ever read in Fagles. Now I need to read some retellings, because I've never read any 🤔

Agreed, I love the clothbound! I have only ever read I think it was the Martin Hammond translation of The Iliad but I remember liking it.
