Just when you think you’ve seen all the cages and learned all there is on piggy homes, along comes Sarah and the cheeky herd to inform and entertain! There is certainly more choice than I thought and certainly some great options to get you started before plunging into some DIY! Fabulous video :) x
Amazing video!! Love seeing all the options out there for Guinea pig cages. Thank you so much for putting pictures of my girls cage in at 4:13! I really do love C&C cages but it’s interesting to see other possibilities out there 💕
I originally got the pre-designed kavee cage but songmics on amazon had the same size grids for over half the price so i've got a mix at the moment. I got two more piggies this past month so needed to extend and have 9x2 c&c for my boar and 2 sows now. They're still getting used to one another (bonding went so well after a few hours i could house them together). Having C&C made it easier to extend when I needed to honestly. Thanks for the video, it'll be a big help for new piggy owners :) I actually bumped into a small family getting their piggies recently at pets at home and told them to check out your channel.
Great video. A lot more choices than I thought. When I adopted two (not bonded) male guinea pigs from the local Humane Society, I set them up side by side in 2 Midwest cages. They've since bonded and I was able to attach the 2 cages lengthwise and removed the dividers - they now have a 2' x 10' enclosure and love to spend time together. Lots of room for 2 piggies, and it's easy to use fleece liners. Like you mentioned in the video, they are a bit flimsy, and I wouldn't trust them to protect the piggies against determined pets, but they work great for my set up.
I bought B&Q furniture boards which come in convenient sizes for base and 3 sides and then ordered the plexi glass online paying extra to have them drill the holes for me so all I had to do were a few cuts to make the sides and then screw it all together, looks great and been using it for over a year with 3 happy piggies. I popped it on top of some spare kitchen cabinets I had in my shed so great storage underneath too. Your videos were very helpful in me deciding on how best to build the cage so thank you so much for all the wonderful information
Oh my gosh...I never knew so many options, especially for one like myself who is diy challenged, lol! Being on a budget, I need to be a bit creative with my space, though allowing for proper space for my Harriet and Clemintime. Thank you Sarah as even challenged, I forge on and build what I can to make the best home for my piggies as I love to spoil them!
We have a Guinea Loft and love it!! I have had the experience of a piggy getting out, so I have since ordered the lid. I’m excited to see their future offerings for modifications!
A few years ago I built a huge wooden guinea pig flat (2.1m x 90cm) for my guinea pig couple and trio. Great project, but turned out to be horrible to clean the bottom one. Once one if the boys died I turned it back into one group and just decided the cage needed to take up more floor space because I wasn't going to do two levels again.
The piggies are so cute! This was a very good video with lots of information. We have the Midwest cage for our single piggy with no top or "roof" which makes it easier to feed and clean. It is not possible for her to nibble on the Velcro straps since they are not accessible to her because they are on the outside of the canvas bottom that attaches to the lower wires of the cage.
We have a Hamster Homes cage for our pair of pigs and absolutely love it. It's 2+ years old and is still looking almost new. I made custom waterproof fleece liners for it, thanks to your Squeak Dreams video guide! The cage is great for cleaning and bonding with our boys, but sturdy enough to protect them from other visiting pets (we have the roof for those occasions). We can stick it in the back of the car when the pigs go to family members for their "holidays" when we're away. It's a well travelled cage 😆 We have the 150cm x 60cm version which is slightly under the 10.5ft square recommendation and ideally would have got the 180cm version, but alas we couldn't. The rescue we adopted from were happy with the cage and we make sure to give the boys lots of floor time, but they relax most in their cage. I bought a cheap secondhand desk which it sits on and all their hay, fleece and other belongings live in the drawers and space underneath. They live downstairs in a main room in the house, within squeaking distance of the fridge (and don't we know it!). The cage was a lot of money, but as two adults getting our first pigs, we viewed it as long term investment. We considered DIY'ing but wanted proper timber and didn't trust our DIY skills to get a finish good enough for the pigs and for us to live with. 2+ years in I'm only happier with our choice!
I'm in the research and saving phase of getting done Guinea pigs. I was thinking a C&C cage, but after seeing this video, I think I'm going to get the 180cm Hamster Homes.
Terrific video Sarah! This would have been so useful when I returned to having guinea pigs several years ago. I definitely agree about the DIY C&C being a great option, that's what I've done and I've built a (very sturdy!) mansion! It's 2x6 on the bottom level and 2x8 on the top level, with the two levels accessed by two ramps. The whole thing is on a huge base that I've built so that each base cube provides storage for bedding and other things. Mainly what I wanted to comment is that cable ties/zip ties are indeed absolutely essential. I am not kidding when I say I have used over 1,000 of them! But as a result the entire structure is extremely sturdy, so don't let any worries about wobbliness of C&C cages hold anyone back-just be sure to reinforce with a huge number of cable ties/zip ties and you will be good to go. You can get a bag of 1,000 on Amazon for about $16.
Hi. I used to have the wire cube set-up. I had the largest picnic rugs and used them up-side down. Over time they got tatty and I had to replace them, which was a pain dismantling the cubes and wire ties. ( I've lost count how many ties I've gone through! 😂). About a month ago I bought a wooden shelving unit for £42 ! I joined the wood together with the dowels and laid pond liner and taped it to the edges of the wood (only an inch high) so it doesn't show above the bottom liner and the guinea dad fleece. Oh my goodness I should have done this way back! It's an absolute dream to clean! My girls Love it! 😊. They have a part-covered 'hay barn' they can sleep, eat and burrow. They do have a round hay rack, though, which, I feel is essential. I have no option but to have my piggies home on the floor and the wood helps keep any draughts at bay. It's so much more stream-lined and stylish! 😂, oh and it's very sturdy too 💪. Great content as always. Love your Piggies! 😍 BTW. Its 8 feet long and 3 feet deep. I have 3 female piggies. (One called Phoebe ! 😂)
4.17 Bandit and Splodge here. We are thrilled and honoured to have featured in your video, popcorning around in our DIY C&C cage! We continue to be happy little maniacs! Love to you and all the Piggies!! ❤❤
I have the Kaytee 12.5 sq ft habitat. My two female piggies love it. Lots of room to run around. It's a little wobbly, but I also got the top and that helps a lot. My piggies must be good girls, no damage to canvas bottom after a year.
We have a Midwest change with a modified pet shop cage attached via a ramp. The hard bottom pet shop cage serves as our "kitchen" as it is easier to clean the bottom. We kept in the Midwest door gate so we can sometimes separate our 8 year old from her much younger cagemate who has excessive bursts of energy on occasion.
Have the kaytee 2×4 connected to a wooden hutch style cage. The wooden hutch is not easy to clean. Getting 2 guinea loft cages with connector tunnel delivered tomorrow. Wanted something easier to clean. Also, wanted a setup that is more attractive than the cobbled together one have now. Thank you for the cage critique. ❤
I got a Cavee pre made C & C cage based on your video last year, knowing that I would eventually want to upgrade to a DIY cage similar to yours. I will say it has been a great stepping stone cage for me, with storage space underneath, a nice spot under the loft for hay tray, and plenty of room to ram for the piggies! I will say I've had some minor problems with the cage, mostly associated with my rambunctious piggies. First of all, my pigs chew the choroplast every so often, I've not seen anyone else mention it but I think we've had some tummy problems because of this. Second, my pigs are apparently very athletic: they jump quite a bit, the major issue being off of the loft. I've overhauled my old liners for a couple different reasons, one of those being to add extra padding since I figured their hard impacts with the flooring couldn't be comfortable. The final and more trivial issue I have with the cage is the height: even with the raised version with cubbies underneath, I still have to bend down an uncomfortable amount to clean and interact. This coupled with some boar bonding trifles has significantly hindered my ability to bond with my boys. Overall, I'm sure they are small problems compared to what I could've had with another cage, but I'm going to end up building a diy cage sooner than anticipated because of it.
We went for the square cage after watching your video a couple of years ago, it's surprisingly sturdy (we have cats, they don't bother with the piggies at all but it's still a safety precaution I can't be careful enough about).
I have a guinea pig cages store cage and it's so awesome! They cut them in a way that's easy to expand, they're SUPER durable, super nice looking, and cheaper compared to the other C&C's. We have cats so I had to get a cage with a lid incase someone leaves the room door open and I was surprised how nice it looked and how sturdy it was when set up. I plan on making my 2x5 into an L with another 2x5. They don't cut them to be able to expand that way but I'm not worried because the way the cage is designed with rivets keeping the edges together, it should be super easy with only a little DIY and cutting. I freaking love the cages ❤
I have a DIY c&c cage but we don't have chloroplast. We have a solid grid bottom and put a layer of blankets then washable pads and then the fleece. The only bad thing is stuff falls out the sides and I have to wipe the walls a lot but it works for us! It's nice because it's a 14x2 cage for 6 females! So it's nice and big for them! They all get along pretty well and I think that's part of it
Hoping to get Piggies in the future when my circumstances are better suited to their needs. When I do, I am planning on a cage based on the Squeak Dreams Special
Hi Sarah, your videos have been really helpful for our family, we now have 2 4 month old boys living at ours, whilst they will get loads of indoor time with us we don't have anywhere near the space for an indoor setup so they are outdoorsy piggies... nature lovers 😂... Question for you. For outdoor hutches, as we have water proof covers etc it should be fine to just use loads of fleece and soft beds right? Is there any reason why we would need to continue to use wood shavings? Thanks 👍
What kind of tips do you have for providing as much space as possible within a small space? I just got my piggies and sadly my room is pretty small and filled with all my trinkets, so I don’t have much space in terms of getting a big cage. What do you think I should do?
My almost 7 years was studying this video. He wants one bad, but I’m not sure the hay will agree with him. Is there an alternative? Please respond when you are ready too. No rush. I’m trying to go back and like the videos we had watch since you are his nightly routine ❤
Do you think the piggies like when you change the items or arrangement of the enclosure?. Do they enjoy a variety. Or is it better to leave as they are used to it?
No, but recommended cage sizes for guinea pigs work in square feet. To convert from cm to square feet, type into google in this format "length cm x width cm in square feet", eg a cage measuring 60 cm by 160 cm is 10.33 square feet.
Please make a video on how to keep guinea pigs clean and fresh!!❤️mine get dirty so fast😑😑 it would be really helpful and also please make routine videos🐾💙💙luv your videossss❤️❤️
If you're using C&C I strongly, strongly recommend ditching the cable ties (and the funny looks you get when you go and buy hundreds of them from Home Bargains!) and using the Omlet cage clips - the crucial difference is that they are removable and reusable, so you can easily chop and change and adapt your C&C setup.
I have a c&c cage, which I have extended. The lower section is in an L shape, which is a 2x4 plus 2x5, and the loft is a 1x3, which then opens to a 2x2 Each end of the loft has a ramp, so there is no way to be cornered, and they love zooming up and down.
I've only included cages that meet or exceed the recommended 10.5 square feet of floor space for two piggies. The living world cages don't meet that criteria, the largest is 7.4 square feet.
I have 2 Guinea pigs they are in a pet shop cage 120cm by 60cm I know it is not enough as I have 2 boars so they need more space but my parents think it’s fine and are now on a desk as we got a cage stand and was so unstable it jiggled every time they slittly moved as they tend to popcorn and purr and groom each other a lot . But when I get more older I want to give them a big room to them and there stuff as they have stuff in the shed and in under the desk they have so much but they are sooo cute . Cause online I got told that they needed this size but I got the cage literally before getting them so had to get something that was considered appropriate but recently I have found out on kavee that boars need more space but we don’t have that much space where they can go in y room as we have a puppy it has restricted the amount of times I get them out but they seem to be enjoying it less and becoming less skittish as they can’t hear people walking past all the time but since all my mental health problems I just want them to know I am trying to get past it again but I feel bad them not having a big cage. Please any advice would be very helpful.
hi! for any piggie owner here, is it common that they just pee out of the litter box? or are they usually keen to have their own spot (preferably in a box full of hay). Also, speaking of hay, how much hay would 2 piggies need a month? (roughly)
Guinea pigs eat about their weight in hay a day. So I would think they would go through around 6-7lbs of hay in a month. Give or take. But that depends fully on the the piggy and how much they enjoy hay. So that could easily go up by another pound or two.
Also guinea pigs are extremely hard to littler train. It’s almost impossible . But you can encourage it by constantly having fresh hay and water in or next to the litter box (which should be decently large.)
Hey! I got my Guinea Pigs For 2 weeks now. And if i try to pet them they just runing away. Can u pls help me. Pls make a video how to pet u guinea pigs becuse they are just runing away From me.
For now I have a Midwest cage for my guinea pigs, I will be getting a c and c cage as soon as I can, I want to know they are safe and I want them go have more space so I can maybe add a 3rd guinea pig, would 3 male guinea pigs be ok or no I have 2 males
Ok, I know they may not get along and they would probably need extra space like more than revenged for 3 and I will get help from a shelter and see if it can work
In the U.S., I repair my DIY C&C cage with political campaign signs made of coroplast after the campaign has concluded. It’s free and a good way to recycle while repairing or adding sections of the cage. My piggies’ hay area is made of campaign signs.
i have had piggies since June of 2019 (it was a joke on my birthday that turned into a herd in no time flat) I so glad I learned about C&C early I think it was still 2019 when I went from a midwest to C&C I know it was before covid (IE before feb/march 2020) I have had my herd expand to up to 12 at one time its down to 8 with at least 2 that will age out of life soon sadly. in the last 5 years I have changed my C&C set up including the first midwest to cc 8 times because I'm just not happy with it or the herd changes or some other reason to get out the box cutter and zipties lol. I will say I disliked cleaning the midwest the corners tried to hold ickieness to well. I also didn't like how the ramps worked. If the Kaytee version had been out then I would have gone with that were the extendable areas are floor level doors not ramps I like that idea better.
Im a guinea pig owner of a year now i love my guinea pig and sadly shes just a single guinea pig because her sisters got bought by other people when i bought her myself shes doing fine well i hope so but i know she needs a friend and im worried because i dont want her to get attacked by a guinea pig or vice verse her cage is 4 feet wide 7 feet long she has enough toys for about 7 guinea pigs and everything she ever needs i just need help with her pairing with another guinea pig so if anybody has any advice please leave a comment thank you.
MY GUINEA PIG LIVES INSIDE A ONE PERSON TENT IN MY MASTER SUITE IN MY 3 BEDROOM TOWN HOUSE. HE HAS SO MUCH FLOOR SPACE YOU SHOULD TRY TO GIVE A TENT TO YOUR PET.
Don't over complicate the situation buying a guinea pig cage, I ordered the kaytee from amazon, it's coming from the states. I've just popped in to pets at home 5 minutes down the road and they do more than ample guinea pig cages at half the price. I'm guessing squeak dreams gets sponsored by these cages.
Oooh sorry for being a linguistic nerd but I love that you switched “exorbitantly priced” for “extortionately priced”. Is that a Brit thing or just new? Or a malapropism? Either way it’s a mood 😂
I don't think the Ferplast is a good option to promote. Pigs need to be able to run about and the raised lips of each section would prevent that. Looking at their site they seem to have a lot of "pet store" style cages that are definitely not big enough. I would also not promote Little Pet Warehouse, their cages don't look big enough, unless you just use them for transport. We have a 16 sq foot C&C cage for two pigs and a 6ftx3ft C&C cage for three pigs. I love your cage and hope my husband and I can create something similar in the future.

What kind of tips do you have for providing as much space as possible within a small space? I just got my piggies and sadly my room is pretty small and filled with all my trinkets, so I don’t have much space in terms of getting a big cage. What do you think I should do?
I’m worried about my guinea pig jumping out and getting lost, is that a normal concern?
I have a guinea pig that we tought it was a boy but its a girl🎉🎉🎉 We love your videos they are helpful🐹
My almost 7 years was studying this video. He wants one bad, but I’m not sure the hay will agree with him. Is there an alternative? Please respond when you are ready too. No rush. I’m trying to go back and like the videos we had watch since you are his nightly routine ❤
Is the Midwest the same as the kaytee open living cage??
I build a base then cage on top with C&C grids which has made it really sturdy the one thing I hated was stacking cages didn’t look very strong
Do you think the piggies like when you change the items or arrangement of the enclosure?. Do they enjoy a variety. Or is it better to leave as they are used to it?
They enjoy a variety and even like it when the same items are just rearranged 😊
Do you use imperial measurement in the UK? I had no idea what tou were talking about with sizes 😢
Thanks requests noted! 😃
Can’t wait to watch!! ❤❤
Hi Libby, I think you said you had sent in a photo on the poll comments but I didn't receive one, have just thought now!
@@SqueakDreams oh no, I’ll have a look into it!
I checked this out after watching a news piece about the high school girl who designated the last one…Guinealoft. Wow, cool.
Yay u posted ❤🎉🎉😅(this was real helpful btw)
Thank you!!
Sounds like a great setup! Lucky piggies 😃
I build bioactive enclosures for bearded dragons, dragon eels "greater sirens", tree frogs, iguanas, rats, etc.. could I do this with these guys?
Our 3 girls were very excited to see themselves having breakfast in this video (about 11.42)
I love your videos. I'm in the USA. What cage, in your opinion, would be good for one piggie? Also, my daughter loves your piggies.
What about the Living World cages? How do they compare to the others?
C&Cs are quite affordable here in Brazil ☺️
Any other brands that make pre made c and c cages? Thanks!
hi! for any piggie owner here, is it common that they just pee out of the litter box? or are they usually keen to have their own spot (preferably in a box full of hay).
I've just filmed a video on taming which will be up tomorrow 😊🥳
@@SqueakDreamsNice thx
I have 2 females, they have a 5 by two, is that good?
Hi I love ur videis and ur piggies ❤❤
For now I have a Midwest cage for my guinea pigs, I will be getting a c and c cage as soon as I can, I want to know they are safe and I want them go have more space so I can maybe add a 3rd guinea pig, would 3 male guinea pigs be ok or no I have 2 males
Hi, 3 Male Guinea Pigs can be difficult. I definetly recommend getting Help from a shelter to avoid Dramas.
Ok, I know they may not get along and they would probably need extra space like more than revenged for 3 and I will get help from a shelter and see if it can work
A shelter can Help with introductions and finding a suitable companion. It really depends on your piggies personalities.
@@IrisBertram-Kolk-wx6klI also know it can ruin the first 2 guinea pigs bond
Thats OK. You can Always Put them next to each other
Is 3 by 3 C & C cage is Good For 3 Guinea pigs?
Ah so this is what that poll was for, cool!
Yup!! 😁
my guinea pig had to be put down today,
i miss you very much🕊️
What size is your current new cage
In the U.S., I repair my DIY C&C cage with political campaign signs made of coroplast after the campaign has concluded. It’s free and a good way to recycle while repairing or adding sections of the cage. My piggies’ hay area is made of campaign signs.
How much space do two guinea pigs need
Your videos make my day!! My piggies name is Milo!
Also he is aggressive towards other piggies that’s why I only have one
i have had piggies since June of 2019 (it was a joke on my birthday that turned into a herd in no time flat) I so glad I learned about C&C early I think it was still 2019 when I went from a midwest to C&C I know it was before covid (IE before feb/march 2020) I have had my herd expand to up to 12 at one time its down to 8 with at least 2 that will age out of life soon sadly. in the last 5 years I have changed my C&C set up including the first midwest to cc 8 times because I'm just not happy with it or the herd changes or some other reason to get out the box cutter and zipties lol.
I will say I disliked cleaning the midwest the corners tried to hold ickieness to well. I also didn't like how the ramps worked. If the Kaytee version had been out then I would have gone with that were the extendable areas are floor level doors not ramps I like that idea better.
0:58 I want this one for my Guinea pig or 1:10
What is the guinea pig habitat that you have
Im a guinea pig owner of a year now i love my guinea pig and sadly shes just a single guinea pig because her sisters got bought by other people when i bought her myself shes doing fine well i hope so but i know she needs a friend and im worried because i dont want her to get attacked by a guinea pig or vice verse her cage is 4 feet wide 7 feet long she has enough toys for about 7 guinea pigs and everything she ever needs i just need help with her pairing with another guinea pig so if anybody has any advice please leave a comment thank you.
The last cage for the bad ones it’s good because it has a lot of space
I’m getting 2 female Guinea pigs soon 2x4 cage so it’s big and spacious
Just a Bit scared of the money costs but it’s £100 how it adds up
The last Amazon cage looks OK but I think my piggies would be too hot in the summer months, with the top op
hey!!!! i am a fannnnn
So sad that woodys dont ship to the united states. I saw a lot of stuff i love to have... great video ty
Sarah ,l don't want to startle you ,but behind you is a walking wig !! 😂😂😂😂😂
I need a cage I am getting one more soon so I need a new one❤
Oooh sorry for being a linguistic nerd but I love that you switched “exorbitantly priced” for “extortionately priced”. Is that a Brit thing or just new? Or a malapropism? Either way it’s a mood 😂
Also I cannot believe any of these ones that are marketed for rabbits. Yikes!
Loved this nerdy comment 🤓 I'm not sure - I didn't know 'exorbitantly' was even a word! 😅 So it's either just me or a Brit thing 😆
The Ferplast 200 is too expensive. I connected 2 Ferplast120 cages. If you have the floorspace the ferplast 140 Plaza also connects .
❤❤❤❤❤
0:10 I HAVE THAT CAGE FOR MY GUINEA PIGS
That cage is horrible..
@@Cookies_HHthats sad of you to say that keep it to your self
@kerrymcgee8754 I'm trying to help rhay cage isn't suitable for guinea pigs.
@@Cookies_HH at least it’s not this cage 0:18
I don't think the Ferplast is a good option to promote. Pigs need to be able to run about and the raised lips of each section would prevent that. Looking at their site they seem to have a lot of "pet store" style cages that are definitely not big enough. I would also not promote Little Pet Warehouse, their cages don't look big enough, unless you just use them for transport. We have a 16 sq foot C&C cage for two pigs and a 6ftx3ft C&C cage for three pigs. I love your cage and hope my husband and I can create something similar in the future.
I have a c&c cage
🎉😊
I copied yours !! Only mine is smaller bc l only have two girls .
first!
I have the ferplast! Love it and i have the wooden hut at the end of my cage. :) i love how it extends.
Thanks for sharing your experience of the Ferplast! It gets such a mixed bag of reviews!
