- Hello everyone! This week I sang All You Wanna Do from Six: The Musical!
I feel like this cover took several years off my life, holy moly. It is truly a miracle that this is actually finished. Covering 7 minute songs is not kind on the psyche, I do not recommend it. STILL, it is done and I’ll never have to do it again! From here on out, we’re sticking to 5 minutes, tops.
This was just really hard to make. Although it’s not perfect, I definitely gave it my best shot so I thoroughly hope you enjoy it!

Angry Brit Well that would be true to a certain extent, but getting into the mindset of a character also helps to add more emotion to the song
Honestly all the innuendos in the lyrics would make you smirk...before everything else sinks in and you question your mindset.

I honestly like that it's "enoughsies" fits better than "enough, see" as it would sound more child-like as she WAS just a child when she was getting abused, it also fits with "Playtime's over"
This is such a tricky song. It lures you in with a catchy pop tune but the lyrics and tone change into such a drama it's wild. I mean this little girl, this child was basically taken advantage of by an older man who tricked her into thinking she was special, he was different and what they had was unique. As she grows older she tries finding what she couldn't with Mannix. Something different and special. But every time she thinks she has found that, turns out they only wanted her for her body & to use. She grows up learning the lesson that love is nothing but lies and dies that way.
Jesus, that is so depressing. Even before you realize that she's endured sexual abuse.

K.Howard is ALWAYS disgusted with Henry. In the live performance, K.Howard (Aimie, specifically) was like "Tall, large...Henry VIII." as in she was grossed out or just tired of hearing his name.
Don't forget this was the time in Henry's life where he was getting even larger then in his good years. dude was huge. so he was grossly huge from his build plus all the fat he started to build up/

As someone who has gone through what Katherine Howard went through, this song makes me feel a combination of dread, fear, and grief. Howard was 13 I was 12 and despite the fact that I'm a guy and she's long gone, her story deeply resonates with me and breaks my heart.

The fact that even after listening to and reading along with the lyrics some people still don't understand what this is about.... it's deeply disturbing. It's not just 'dirty jokes', and she wasn't a 'flirt'. She was a CHILD that was told she was only ever good for her body. She was groomed by her music tutor, taken advantage of by two of her bosses, taken advantage of by a friend, and then beheaded because she didn't inform Henry that he wasn't the only creep who forced themselve's on her.
All of that aside, your singing is incredible and I'm amazed by your range.

You know I had a history teacher in high school who'd begin every semester of all of his classes with a long story across the entire class period talking about Henry VIII which he told so well as a way to introduce the class to the fact that hearing about stories of history is fun. Because I took two of his classes and had to retake one of them (because I was a lazy piece of shit lol) I've got his relatively comedic telling of Henry VIII's wives burned in my memory. Really liked that teacher. Cool guy.

Can we just take a moment, to appreciate, the amount of emotion she put into singing the cover? The amount of anger, that was in that "NEVER." And the amount of sadder emotion in the "ever." When I asked this user why they did that, their response was that they simply wanted to dislike the video for the sake of it. I can, Aimee crushed the original. I LOVE this version to piecesdont get me wrong OMFG I'm so happy I suggested this early last year and she actually read it ASDFGHJKL, but one or two word changes were jarring. She must be using the American version's lyrics, as we say "mates", "pals" is too American for me, especially coming from an iconic British Queen. The line "His tempers short and his mates are sleazy" suffers a LOT in this Americanised version, "friends" is too nice of a word. Theres a subtle distinction the use of "mates" provides here in terms of British slang. Mates is:
A) a more lower class vocabulary choice, its deliberately unbefitting of a Queen because its showing how lowly she thinks of these men (who were Lords and the like)
B) gives less purity to the statement. "His friends are sleazy" sounds like Henry has genuine friends, like theres genuine affection between all the guys. Mates is a synonym for friends, that's true, but in the context of them mates being "sleazy", it implies it's a lot more seedy than plain friendship. It evocates what a lot of Brits (in my area at least) refer to as an "old boys club" or "old boy network", which is the term used to describe rich men who abuse their power and work together in clubs/societies to cover each others misdeeds (it's an odd phenomenon that I haven't really heard of elsewhere but its primarily used to describe clubs of young men in high status Universities (Oxford and Cambridge and Edinburgh to name a few)). Its heavily linked to academia and also to the higher class and as such by calling them his "mates", it's like shes implying they've got their own boys club. Like they all perv on her and she cang do a thing because their status is higher than hers and they all gather ranks to cover up any misdeeds. It's a subtle distinction but it does add a LOT to the line. I think changing it was an odd move. Surely Americans know what a 'mate' is, right? Aussies use it too, like it's not an uncommon word. If you're curious about this Boys Club culture in Universities, theres a film called "The Riot Club" which follows a fictional one of these societies and the awful ways they abuse their privellige. Its a good film, but make sure you're ready for it, it's not a nice uplifting one that's for sure.
