When collected this set as a kid I did not care much for the sticker and gave them to my younger siblings. I have some vague memories of opening up these packs but the images come back loud and clear in the old noggin.
I have 10-15 boxes…some closeout…..was surprised the other day to see pack sales…..so much easier to handle the packs versus cards…..plus most grades realized should be 7-8 with a few 9,s…..so the return is a no brainer…I’ve had my boxes 25 plus years…the future will be high priced packs….since full boxes will dry up…..I started in 1990…back then bb dealers were looking to buy mars attacks wax boxes 1962…..the non sport people knew there weren’t any available for a long time…..I always wonder when the last full box of a particular series will no longer be available……..thanks for your time and love of non sports!
I remember being 13 when this came out and I had some cash to my name when these cards came out….I went into Hooks Drug Store and walked out not with a few packs of these but instead, the whole box….I felt like the man!
Can totally relate. I had a similar experience in 1977 at a local bungalow I would frequent to buy Topps 1977 SW packs. One time, I mustered up $5.40 which was a lot of money for a 7 year old kid (that was like having $100). And I bought a Topps 1977 full Series One box that was in this display in this bungalow market. I remember walking out holding the box - like you…I felt like the man!
@@Silvereagledude I was right behind you guys I think. I was 9 when Return came out… clearly loved Star Wars, but had not realized what the trading cards were at that time. I was a 3.75 figure type kid. I wish I had focused just a little at least, on the cards 😕
As a kid I could only afford a pack at a time. Didn't really collect in my 20s but after that when I was able to finally buy boxes it felt soo good. But I still don't find too much overpriced newer sets as flea market boxes tend to have more fun for the buck
Another fun box opening! These came out right in my Star Wars youth hay day, so I have LOTS of fond memories getting a few of these at a time and being pretty awesome! The other comments pretty much covered the condition issues and difficulty getting clean, gem mint cards. It seems crazy that it's so difficult, but who knows all the details of the printing process, inks, paper type, amount of banging around and handling when getting put into packs! It'll be that much sweeter when you pull a Gem Mint 10 though and you'll have some very low pop cards if ya do! Good luck! Looking forward to seeing more rips and results!!
Another great video, thanks for sharing with everyone. The reason why there aren’t many PSA 10’s for this 1983 ROTJ Series One is because of a few things: (1) as you mentioned, these ROTJ cards are not as desirable for vintage SW collectors so not as many submissions. What is more valued are the 1977 SW cards (mostly the Series One blue cards) and some of the 1980 ESB Series One cards, (2) the Topps printing quality control wasn’t good on the ROTJ cards and steadily declined with each new series (as you mentioned the red border is tough as even the slightest ink chipping on edges or corners will knock the grade down, there is also a lot of ink fading with these cards where the red ink has a faded cloudy look and then the yellow ink mist issue within the red borders on many of the cards, yellow splotches, surface print smears that are mostly black, and even thin purple print lines on the inner border around images; and of course this series suffered from centering issues). Good luck with your submission on the cards you’re sending in. Someday I’d like to see someone get a Title Card PSA 10.
The misting you speak of! Totally have noticed this! Man.. 😕. Is it like this on Series 2? Could it be possibly better because of the Blue borders? I just got a box of that, and will be breaking into it eventually. I’ve never opened any of the Series 2 before. Personally, I’m looking forward to it… I know it pales in comparison to the heavy hitters… but trying to hit them all once at least 👍🏻
@@e-dubrippinstuff9820 The 1983 ROTJ Series 2 blue-bordered cards surprisingly don’t have that “misting” ink issue…from what I’ve seen. For some reason the vintage blue-bordered cards didn’t have that issue. I think for the ROTJ Series 2 blue cards…some just have the ink splotch and ink smear issues, and, of course, centering issues. The most sought-after card in this series is the one titled “The Victors” (Card #137) which features Han, Leia, and Luke in a promotional shot in the Endor forest. Getting that in a PSA 10 would be awesome. Collectors like that card because it has the big 3 actors in it. Just hard to get one that is perfectly centered with no surface issues and no warping/bowing to the card. Look forward to your ROTJ Series 2 rip!
Thanks for the shoutout….these ROTJ cards are brutal to find in good condition….I hate the color band on the edge of some of the stickers…I think sending in the Boba Fett was the right call
Thanks! I thought “why not”? Get it protected and slabbed up 👍🏻. Even though the red paint/printing seems sprayed on poorly on some cards (like The Protagonist said in his comment)… I still do like them. I just got a box ox the ROTJ series 2. This one will be another first for me.
@@e-dubrippinstuff9820 I have 2-3 boxes of series 2 myself….I never bought any of series 2 back in the day. I don’t remember any retail stores carrying it in my small town back in the day, but being 13 at the time, in sports, and more interested in girls at the time, I may have been blinded to it….
That gum must smell unpleasant after almost 40 years. Chewie might not be a rookie card but he is a wookie card. Also, why is Greedo in this set? He died in A New Hope.

My older brother collected this one but he used the stickers. I somehow inherited the set, he got over Star Wars a while ago.
