Sorry, but I have to make a correction. Preloading the spring does not change the spring rate. Tein (and 99% of coil over springs) are linear, and will compress 1mm pr. 10 kg (for example) you put on it, alle the way. Preload to a certain degree is fine, and that certain degree is belov the weight of that specific corner of the car. Preload is an excellent tool to dial in bump and rebound travel.
not quite sure why you’d recommend holding the upper wrench backwards, because that means you’re tightening them together the first way you showed. it is much harder to loosen the bottom if you’re trying to push the top tin against it. not quite sure why you’d do that but my thumb is no bleeding
When you raised them up for winter did it add height to stock? Or did you just raise to stock? I’m looking for coilovers that add just a bit of height. Maybe an inch or so. Can’t find anything.
Hi the Tein in my opinion are the most like stock but with the height and dampen adjustment. If you keep the Strut mounts stock you will have a nice compliant feel but if you want a little more stiff aggressive feel you can go with a Group N top hat that will be harsh on the road but great for that confidence and it will be more predictable. For a hardcore feel you can go with the Tein and put camber plates the most aggressive you can get with the strut it will be not fun to drive as a road car as you will feel every nuance of the tarmac with no compliance from the strut towers locking your camber and alignment down. This will help with understeer too more than the other set ups as you can trail brake to keep weight transferred to the front end as it will be so stiff it will instantly react.
Exactly the same set up with these there is no pre load you just don't want the spring to have a gap when set on the ground. You do need to lift the back seat up to get to the Damper adjustment though.
Ali Toroganan use the adjusters to crank the spring seat up , it should go to almost the top of the black threaded section. Don’t use a compressor it will ruin the strut if the spring is loaded too much.
Ali Toroganan yikes , you may have a top mount off or the spring is for the front ? They should move almost all the way up like in the vid. Check the install at the top hat .
Thanks for the video. I don't have a Subaru but I do have these same coilovers on my Honda Accord V6 Sedan (9th Gen). Do you think it's possible to adjust the ride height to get it close back to stock height? My wife is pestering me to raise the car back up to how it was and reinstall the 17" factory wheels/tires. She hates the lowered ride. She always gets a laugh whenever I pull into the driveway and hears me scratch the underside. Shops are quoting me labor of about $150/hr just to have them do the adjustments. I don't have a garage, but I do have a covered carport and assigned parking spot. I believe if I were to invest in a set of jack stands and a 2 ton floorjack, I can probably do it myself and save on the labor. All it would cost me is a 1/2 day of work.
Rey Celestino hey now ! The video is all about raising it up. Take that top seat and put it almost all the way to the top of the black collar. My front lip and exhaust hate me when I lower it all the way . My buddy just got the new 2020 Accord it’s pretty sleek . The 9th gens look is just awesome though.
Newbie question. I've never had coilovers before. Im about to get one for my 07 sti whose suspension is shot. My question is whenever you adjust the height, do you have to get an alignment everytime?
Not a bad question. Let’s look at it this way, when your on airbags your height can be at a max from low to high 3 inches and they ride anywhere in between those 3 inches of travel and they should still be within “spec” of the OEM alignment numbers. A good shop can set your coilovers at half height and spec it from there meaning that quarter to half inch adjustment really will not put you out of spec unless you were really off camber or toe to begin with. Dampening has no affect on alingnment, I’m within spec and have tools to measure my toe and camber at home. The Subaru camber is adjustable from the strut mounting bolts so anytime you remove those it’s a good idea to get your camber but toe isn’t too affected on the Subaru without tie rod adjustments.
Leroy Headlam a lot of full turns only has a very small effect on height both ways. It may look like like a lot on the Strut but it did very little when the car is on the ground.
Hi yeah if it’s too low you have slack when the car is on the ground. They should be lowered to where it kisses the top mount with the spring not have space between them
Hi don’t daily it anymore but it was in heavy use w the coilovers for about a year maybe 15k on them. They are very compliant and feel like stock but with adjustable strut and height. If you keep stock Top Hats I think that’s the whole thing to it if you get groupN hard top hats or if you get the Flexi and you have the camber kit it’s gonna be a very very harsh ride and more for real track cars not street cars.
Thought the same thing as the springs are either compressed a little or see a little slack when raised. Someone claimed it didn’t but I don’t think it’s right. Also you can go too low and the spring will have too much slack and bounce around. Maybe email Tein?
Kaiesis these don’t have preload like my Megan Racing were you can lengthen or shorten them by the threaded two piece design. The Tein are solid cases so it really isn’t for someone wanting full height adjustment . I’m not slamming it I keep the springs within a good working range .
Very helpful thanks!! I have about 1 year on my tein Coilovers and are perfect 👌
Glad you like them!

You bet!

I see the stack of rice. My parents do the same.
Simple green for some green coilovers. nice. haha.
Team Green !

Hi am thinking of chaging my oem sprng and shocks to tein basis was there any differnce from the in terms of handling / stiffer thanks

Thanks for reply one more question can these raised by half inch of oem height as at time i do tend go threw bad roads to avoid bumper damage thanks
I wanna see how you adjust rear coilover, cause i feel like that’s the hardest to adjust
Exactly the same set up with these there is no pre load you just don't want the spring to have a gap when set on the ground. You do need to lift the back seat up to get to the Damper adjustment though.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
bro how do i raise the rear as there is no room for the spring to move upwards, unless maybe if i use a spring compressor
Ali Toroganan use the adjusters to crank the spring seat up , it should go to almost the top of the black threaded section. Don’t use a compressor it will ruin the strut if the spring is loaded too much.
@@svtwrc i cant move the collar upwards as the spring is really hard and there's no room for it freely move up

Did your coil overs come with the bearings and rubber?
my coilovers are seized in the front, rings spin with the thread sleeve. any help?
There is a tab that stops the threaded black ring from spinning. If it’s broke off you may have to uninstall it and get it in a vise.
@@svtwrc appreciate it man, thank you!

My springs cone loose when u jack my car up, any way to keep it in the upper spring seat? 🤔
Leroy Headlam hey now , when they are in the air adjust them so there is no slack between the seat and spring then lock the seat and lower.
@@svtwrc but that's going to adjust the height
Leroy Headlam a lot of full turns only has a very small effect on height both ways. It may look like like a lot on the Strut but it did very little when the car is on the ground.
Is it better now when you hit cracks since they are up?
Hi yeah if it’s too low you have slack when the car is on the ground. They should be lowered to where it kisses the top mount with the spring not have space between them
Do you dd your subie and if so how many miles have you put on your coilovers so far

Will ride softness increase with a higher ride height ?

Hi!
What lift is it that yoy have?
Patrik Eklund ua-cam.com/video/NrMbBdM23Y8/v-deo.html The Quickjack is one of the greatest tools in the garage.
Don't you just change the case length? Looks like you're changing the spring length.
