My grandfather was a stamper on the Wellington bomber in brooklands during the war and he was in the Homeguard. He was in London from 38 to 52. He was married in Surrey in 1940. They were Irish and came back to their native Tipperary in 52 with their 2 girls. One being my mother. They remembered the air raids. He had a narrow escape coming back from work one day, he heard the drone if a V1 and when it cut out he through himself and the bike on the ground and the street blew out in front of him. He didn't mention anything about casualties.
