Now here I was thinking that squatch had finally accepted the outcome and could live with the orange peel finish on the large sheet metal tractor parts. After all you said it's not a show tractor and it prob has the best paint finish of its existence. But then you picked up some sandpaper to do some wet sanding because you lost the rationalization battle. You just can't live with a finish that you will see every time you get on the seat. I look forward to every episode.
I’m glad that someone appreciates good quality cordless tools. The people with the black and yellow ones seem to buy them in quantity to overcome the lack of quality. They also leave Brillion farm equipment in the way until threatened with torches.
Well, I own all the colours (Milwaukee, Hilti, DeWalt, and Makita) because each brand offers a best-in-class tool for a specific job. Some are cordless and some are corded depending on the frequency of use. Some were just on sale and the subtle difference didn’t amount to a hill of beans but my tractor is and always will be Kubota. I do like Hilti tools these days - they perform!.
For the sake of asking a question, from ignorance about the windows, you didn't do all the water proofing wrapping that I see on 'This Old House' projects. Just keeping it simple?
With the new steel siding, it will have all of the extra flashing installed first that redirects the water out and away. The new window frames are also made with the channels around the perimeters that stick out and accept that flashing plus the ribbed steel siding 👍
I will never give you silly money for early access to your channel. I have been a loyal follower. this is an insult. I am 80. I need to keep what I worked for. i am giving serious consideration to unsubscribing.
You gotta do what you gotta do and I respect that, either way it happens to go. UA-cam is a business transaction at the end of the day, it needs to generate revenue to exist - but like any other business, if the consumer doesn’t like the product or service they’re getting, they’re free to leave to find another that they’re more happy with. No hard feelings and I sincerely wish you the best 🙂👍
I was wondering when you have your drone flying, could you give a look to how you and your dads ground lies and how the buildings are oriented on the farm
lol no we know exactly why it’s rotted, no flashing or drip edge installed around the overhead doors, which allowed the water to run into the wall. But glues and sealants aren’t commonly used in this area when it comes to building construction, the closest thing we’ve used is heavy duty caulking between flooring panels and floor joists to prevent squeaks/creaks 👍
I forgot to ask did you check wiring in seniors garage where the rats had nested they like to chew on romex haha hopefully the metal shield yal put at base of wall will keep them out
The garage refurb is shaping up nicely. And I don't know about anyone else, but I'd like to hear about the all the "interesting stuff" found that Senior was referring to! 🤣 Quick question: is any if the lumber being used from the "Senior Collection" (for lack of a better phrase. I'm referring to lumber cut with his portable sawmill)? Hope the weather cooperates with the y'all for this project!
At the 5:05 mark in the video when Senior said "This is some of our home-saw lumber here" just before he cut the 2x10 that's what he was referring to, although those 2x10's are from years ago when he was still running the circle mill. Most everything that he's sawn with the new band mill has all been 1" thick stuff.
So was it determined that "Swamp Queen" was actually capable of running Rick's plow? I know it still had wet stacking and such but it seemed to run fine???
Ha! Yeah I followed him out until it left the property, and then watched from the main road as he finally drove out of sight - and THEN checked back in the morning just to make sure he didn’t decide to bring it back after it got dark lol 😂
Ooof, rot. Yeah, that tends to happen, had the same issue with my windows which had wooden beams. Had to get them out and start from scratch, cause the bricks don't like it when they stick on rotten wood. When i got my new stuff in, i painted (edit: rubberized paint from sika) the front facing part + one of your NA inches on the adjacent faces. Good idea i picked up from a Canadian builder i worked with for a year.
You sure can tell a guy grew up in the cold when he's wearing mittens in June, and doing better then I ever could without gloves on. You're a wizard in those gloves Squatch. Am I the only one who's noticed this?

Sorry, just could not pass it up. Hey, it happens to the best of us, and I knew exactly what you meant.

That is what’s left of an old hydraulic cylinder that Senior is scrapping out - the chrome rod had those two brass/bronze discs centering it inside the steel cylinder housing.
It all depends on what you’ve become accustomed to, I’m basically the opposite of what you said. Yes, the drive to get anything is quite long, but the seclusion of being this far out of a populated area is quite nice most of the time. The downside is that we usually only go grocery shopping once a month, and fill up most of Senior’s F-350 with the food and supplies we’ll need until the next month. If we end up having to make another town trip like this one, we’ll still try to incorporate other stops while we’re there to make those road miles count for as much as possible. But, just a few hours in town wears me out and by the time I get home I feel like crashing on the couch for a couple hours, because I’m just not used to being around that many other people and that much traffic/activity. But I’ve also talked to other people who are used to living in town that never quite feel comfortable with the silence out here that I’m most at home in, because they feel a sense of security around lots of other individuals as well as knowing that emergency services are only minutes away, instead of 3/4 to one hour to get to where we are - so there’s definitely two sides to every coin 👍
I really enjoy your content. I’m interested in your background, how did you develop your skills? And what is the backstory on your upcoming construction project? Maybe an overview of the big picture? P.S. I’m a stockbroker in Boston who struggles to change a lightbulb!
Spent 22 years as a Ford Senior Master & ASE Certified diesel & powertrain mechanic at the dealership, also had a 3-year stint as a freight Conductor at BNSF railway on my first attempt at breaking away from the auto industry back in 2014. I finally managed to get out in early 2022, when the UA-cam channel grew large enough to eclipse any of my prior income levels, and I haven't looked back. Now I mostly restore vintage tractors and equipment on the channel here, along with the other odd projects that come along, like helping Senior with this small garage.
