- Hi everyone! Sharing a haul of what I picked up in Italy as requested and also shared the savings when comparing pricing in Europe and what it would have been if I purchased in the US with the tax rate for my state.
Another thing to note is that customs will ask if you have anything to declare upon arrival! Depending on the customs officer, you may need to pay duties on your goods.

yup! price difference is crazy! I’m from Europe and visiting NYC this week, peeking at all my favourite brands and doing the price comparisons.. now I’m ready to go home and buy the pieces I have eyed up in the US! the dollar is also stronger currently against the euro and gbp. good time to go to europe :)

That Prada bag! So useful! It was easy to get my refunds via Global Blue in the Rome Airport for purchases in Italy. Refunds were immediate. But I had been travelling around Europe with Rome as my last stop, so all purchases made from Paris and other cities, it took two months, but I finally received it.

I had recently came back from Milan and was super surprised with how smooth, quick and easy the VAT refund was. Literally had all my receipts, went to the counter. They took my husbands, and my passports, scanned it, and asked for the credit card to have the refunds sent to, and voila I got my refund in 4 days (they said to expect 5-7 business days). I asked if they needed my receipts, and they were like "nope, you're good" - lol they didn't even look at my receipts since everything had pulled up when they scanned our passports.

What was your experience with declaring at US Customs?
Thank you for asking this. Influencers are always happy to talk about their VAT refunds but I'm always curious whether or not they declare their items on the way home and whether or not it's still a good saving when they have to pay taxes and duties when they get home
I’ve always declared and sometimes get waived through without needing to pay duties despite being over, and other times have only been charged 3%. This is just my experience flying in through EWR though! I know some airports are stricter than others.
@@alyssa.lenore thank you for sharing that. I fly through LGA and sometimes my duties are waived and sometimes they're not, no big deal. Would you be able to share that the next time you travel and do a haul? I think it would really help people do the math on whether or not buying abroad is still worth it.
Better to declare! Officers seem to be on the lookout on flights coming from European countries.
Got back from Italy in August with two bags! Declared but the customs officer seemed more concerned if there were alcohol or food products.

Why was the % VAT different for the Celine bag compared to the others?
There is tier system, so the more you spend the higher the % VAT. For special leathers, they also give a higher % VAT. (refering to Celine Milan, not sure about the other cities haha)

Look around on international websites. Isn’t that what “influencers” are for? To help you find deals. Apparently not these days. You don’t need to go to Europe to get these deals. 🙄
