for a kid's show Jem covered a lot of heavy topics (gaslighting, drug abuse,, death of family members, etc) this is just one of the songs that can still be heard today and still be valid, there's still time to fix what we've done to the world!
I always thought that Jem was a soap opera in cartoon form. It had romance, love triangles, adventure, continuing drama, heroes, villains, music, fashion. Everything that things, of the soaps, at the time had.
This is a very underrated song in the series. Britta's vocals are flawless. The drawings are beautiful as well - definitely one of the higher quality animations. Jem's face at the end is beautifully drawn. I wish more of the eps had artists like this one! And thanks much for restoring all of these songs. The quality is excellent and it's much appreciated!
I just finished watching ALL of this show (Netflix), & to this day I'm completely confused as to why Hasbro hasn't released a full soundtrack to this. A good portion of the songs this show has done are brilliant to say the LEAST, & I would buy it in a heartbeat.
I'm blown away, honestly. This sounds so beautiful! The vocals at the end… It's great to hear her hit those high notes in high quality! I got flashbacks of myself as a child watching this song on the Last Resorts VHS tape. Thank you so much for sharing :)
Amazingly ridiculous! I mean people this song was written for a cartoon but not only are the vocals perfection but have you just listened to the music for a moment, how deep and powerful it is? I mean this was recorded for a cartoon and sounds better than most produced music on the charts! Perfection just perfection!!
OK, this may surprise you... Britta was already 23 y/o when the episode was broadcasted originally. Born June 11th, 1963 (as per iMdB), which I calculate she's 10 days younger than the character (June 1st, 1963). If you want to see a younger person singing as Jem you'd have to look south into Sao Paulo, Brazil. Sarah Regina (de Freitas) sang the dubbed Portuguese versions of those songs and more at an estimated age 10 in 1988 after 5 years already singing in Brazilian TV.
This is possibly the first episode I ever watched of Jem, when it was shown on Sky or Super in the weekend cartoons circa '88 via the Astra satellites. And this song is a big reason the series got me hooked, the melody, the vocals, the synths, the windy clip, love everything about it! As an 8year old Greek boy with practically no english knowledge back then, it was the music that spoke more than anything. 30 years later it still does, in all sorts of ways. Thank you so much for hunting the masters down, and taking the time and effort to restore them to their true awesomeness. I revisit them quite often and I get a smile on my face. Thank you.
A song. A messege AHEAD OF ITS TIME. WE NEED MORE INSPIRING MUSIC LIKE THIS. And this Is from A KIDS SHOW FROM THE 80's. Surely WE CAN ALL MAKE A BETTER DIFFERENCE IN TODAY'S WORLD!
I don't know about the song being ahead of it's time. We had songs like "Love (Lord) lift us up where we belong" and "We are the World" in the 80s, if I remember correctly.
Probably my favourite song of theirs... more than other songs of theirs this makes me sad they only stuck to the “one minute and a bit” limit... love it Thank you
The best JatH song from one of the best Jem episodes. The message is a simple one about change in the world being started by a new beginning...the new beginning starts with a simple attitude adjustment, changing from "the world is terrible, nothing can be done to change it" to finding a small and simple thing in one's own community to contribute our time/resources to, to improve our own community. That attitude combined with the action ("beginning") starts social movements spinning and becomes the difference we make in the world.
I love the rasp in Britta's voice even more so on those high notes - it keeps them from being sugar-pop sweet like MLP or other similar shows make their songs. It's what keeps Jem from being pure pop and keeps a good bit of her Rock.
If u are looking for animation and music that can both capture ur heart and soul in these last years, I highly recommend watching the anime : CAROLE & TUESDAY. It is on netflix too.
this is why i will always love Saturday morning 80's cartoons the music (oh god especially the music) could really hit you hard and move you in that eay at times this was some incredible stuff for the time I'm pretty sure this wasa refferance to lifeaid at the time wasn't it folks?
I think that Jem and Captain Planet would get along great! :) We can make a difference! With: Earth! Fire! Wind! Water! Heart! Go Planet! Go Jem! WOOHOO! I should've been born 30-40 years ago. Jem is AWESOME! :D
@@neetrab - Synergy (in canon) and the guys at Toei (IRL) surely did their part... (although the biggest hair in The Holograms ever is that of Carmen Raya Alonso, no doubt about it... )
I Think it is a good song : good music , good Britta's voice. Perhaps I'm wrong but it seems to me that the backup voices weren't good enough. And I think the lyrics are a little bit too simplistic :does everybody want to work together to solve the world's problems?I have somme doubts...
+FaytLinegod As I said before, I think it is a good song, and I don't doubt Jem want to save the world's problems. Nevertheless if you want really to inspire hope, you have to be positive of course, but also you have to speak about the human being's contradictions: cupidity, jalousy,... And it doesn't seem to me I'm talking about complicated things.
@@FaytLinegodIts good to _you,_ because youre simplistic and unevolved. You dont read philosphy or challenge yourself. So, no, you do not understand lyrics. Only dumb ones, on children's cartoons.

Actually, a lot of cartoons started covering serious topics in the 80s

It's not underrated it's just so sad, so we don't talk about it much QQ
+Melodica almost all of the songs were underrated, in my opinion...just because it was a cartoon. smh
Those VOCALS!

Of all the Hologram's ballads, this is the greatest of all. Utterly breathtaking.

Absolutely the best Jem and the Holograms slow song. So much meaning in this song.
My favorite JatH song as an adult. And the best entrance to a show ever!
Her high notes 0:36 , 1:02 , 1:10Amazing!!!
