Understanding Sanatana dharma from a western perspective is difficult. I would recommend two books written by Romain Rolland, a French scholar on Life of Sri Ramakrishna and Life of Swami Vivekananda. Belur math is the main spiritual centre of Ramakrishna mission and the visitors mostly are devotees of Sri Ramakrishna. But Dakshineswar Temple is run by the temple trust and is open for public. Disappointment can be expected the way the things happen in India. Swamiji's teaching will answer all our queries and doubts. I would love this quote of Swamiji "Social life in the West is like a peal of laughter; but underneath, it is a wail. It ends in a sob. The fun and frivolity are all on the surface: really it is full of tragic intensity. Now here, it is sad and gloomy on the outside, but underneath are carelessness and merriment." Best wishes. Happy spiritual learning. 🙏 A devotee of Sri Ramakrishna.
When you become a Ramakrishna devotee, you realise that all the faiths in the world lead to one ultimate truth and that ultimate truth has many names such as Shiva, God and Allah, given by people from different parts of the world. The moment you realise this, you start having respect for all faiths. Jai Sri Ramakrishna 🙏
@@gargvanit Our beloved Thakur Sri Ramakrishna said, Let's take the example of water. Some call it aqua, some call it pani while some call it jal. But the thing is the same --water. Similarly God or Iswar is called in different names, but the reality is one and same. "As many faiths, so many paths." If every person believes in this, religious riots would come to an end.

All of these spiritual pathways in form are pointers to the Divine within. They are like the bus that will take us to the Temple then we must disembark and walk through the Temple door on our own Inner Awareness. There are many pathways and One H-OM-E.🙏
The philosophy of Shri Ramkrishna is not just only Vedanta, his philosophy is essence of every spiritual practices of every religion. That's why it is "As many ways, So many paths". Because he practiced every paths of Hinduism, paths of Islam and Christianity

@@gargvanitRegarding Sadhana in Islam - you maybe ill informed. What you think is Ramzan? Do you know what is the practice on the 23rd to the 28th night in the month of Ramzan in Islam? Why does a person who practices Islam perform Namaz 5 times a day? I limit my reply only to the Sadhana in Islam portion of the topic.
It's important for westerners to understand the symbolism in the image of Kali as shown here, including the decapitated heads (egos) and the biting of the tongue depicted in blood red to signify the guna of Rajas and in turn, the unsettled mind.

Hello Aron. Connect with your heart and not with your mind. Mind thinks about the real world around you, the noise, the chaos, the aggresion of people, the dirty street dogs. Close your eyes and go inside your heart. You will again find the connect. Its there all the time in you. You are a blessed soul. But it gets overwhelmed by the stark reality around us. Good luck.

You should post more! Your voice is so soothing and invigorating! One small correction, mate! In India, people are not bowing to the images, they are actually bowing to essence in it. In temples, they are not idols of stone to us, but energy forms. As Ramakrishna had to be instructed by mother herself to have Thothatri as his Guru to break past the image of her (Kali) to which he had intense attachment and was adamant to let go. Finally he obliged, and attained enlightenment. Sanatana Dharma (or Hinduism- Coined by the British) doesn't preach abstracts in the beginning, which none like us would understand. Give them a form, ritual, and discipline to start of with, and if they adhere to it, they will move from form to formless, the Brahman! Thatvamasi!
Swami stavapriyanandaji is one of the finest swami's in the order now, you got the explanation from one of the best in the order (ngl rkm's hones all the monks as the best)
You are so right to point out that the first step towards God-worshipping is worshipping or at least respecting the creation of God... and unfortunately, this is much overlooked by many of us... temples are supposed to be sanctuaries, and more so in the case of Dakshineshwar where the Divine mother of the Universe was invoked by Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa... but seldom do we achieve the peaceful state that a sanctuary offers, when we enter a temple, because the blindly competitive world seeps into the temple precincts & destroys its ambience...
Yes, so true. People when they enter the blessed temple, enter with too much expectation, thinking that, yes, been here, seen it , now what? Humility, kindness, love & compassion is sadly missing……
Aum Namo Narayana 🙏 The Mother will test you and I both. It looks like you have been tested my friend. Remember the story in the Autobiography of a Yogi? The Mother tested Paramahansa Yogananda ❤ May Mother and Master bless us all

It’s great that you have been reading books and attending the places. I can understand what you mentioned about feelings. So I wanted to ask if you have started with any definitive sadhana routine with a specific goal in mind like- self realization or God realization? Because without a proper sadhana, the feelings etc will keep throwing you into thinking this and feeling that, all the time. Thoughts and feelings change. Connection based upon thoughts and feelings will always be unstable. Starting Sadhana with diligence and following a certain path and teaching is the way. Form and formless both have their importance. One isn’t better or worse than the other. Even when Sri Ramakrishna would indulge in the nectar of Samadhi and impart visions into some of his students there were forms of Kali present. And there were also times where he had let go of forms. I understand it’s hard to fully understand eastern philosophy coming from a western background. However, practice is the real answer. Sadhana should be done with diligence. And Sadhana itself will bring answers to a lot of these questions and confusions. Sadhana is working towards a real goal. That’s where we should head to in right time.
