/ cottonandcurls for glimpses of my life.
1.Grab an oversized button up top and cut off the arms, the collar and the yoke in the back to flatten the box pleat, and seam rip the pocket off.
2.Lay a top down the center and cut around one half including the sleeve, folding it over and cutting the other side.
3.Sew the front and back shoulder and the sides together. Serge or zig zag stitch to prevent fraying.
4.Try the top on and make any adjustments, mark and cut where you want the neckline to be.
5.Cut on one sleeve into 2 rectangles at least 5 or more inches wide and 10 to 20 inches long once sewn together into a tube, the longer it is the more gathered and full it will look. Mine were about 15 inches long and 5 inches wide.
7.Sew the rectangles into a tube, then sew a basting stitch along one side.
8.gather the basting stitch to fit the sleeve opening. Repeat with the other sleeve.
9.Turn the shirt right side out and pull the sleeve end into the ruffle opening, pinning right sides together
10.Sew them together.
11.Hem the bell sleeve with a rolled hem by sewing 1/4” twice
12. sew the neckline under with the same rolled hem as the sleeve. Try to be careful here to not stretch or pull too much because it can look warped or roll forward.
13.Hem the bottom if you need.
I'm making it and I just love it! can't wait to see my result! However, I'd recommend to whoever is trying to iron the shirt first, it makes it way easier if you are not experienced and even if you are, the cuts are more clean and each side matches way better
I'm really obsessed with shirtdresses and the buttons in the back shirt look. Best design trend in a long time! I used to sew stuff like that from scratch....soooo time consuming! I love these workarounds...no more collars and buttonholes. Yeah!
this makes me feel nostalgic..when i was a kid, i also used to sit at the back of my mom's chair when she's sewing :)
Love your little girl. She's getting into the groove. Thank you for your hard work; and, sharing your intellectual properties! All the best to you...
I love everything you do. ❤❤ Thanks for sharing, you inspire me to do my own clothes. I send you a lot of love from México ❤❤
I absolutely love this video! Your tutorials are so easy to follow and figure out, and your channel has inspired me to hit up my local charity shop and create my own pieces more often!
I wish I could like this video multiple times, you make it so easy and it looks amazing. thanks for sharing😊
Best tutorial ever! so clear, simple and inspiring! :))
Everything I watch on UA-cam seems so easy to make. Today I wanted to refashion an old shirt into the one from your video. First, when I turned it onto the right side, the sleeves were puckered (before adding the ruffle endings). Then, I realized I had made the top too small. It's do frustrating :( But, I won't give up and keep watching your videos - they are inspiring :)
Anna Lochman I'm so sorry! I have had years and years of things not working out and getting frustrated (still happens weekly!). I feel ya!! To help with the Puckering always cut the extra seam allowance off by the armpit - also always cut bigger than it seems! Always! It's easier to take something in than taking something out. I still make this mistake often. Don't worry you will get better and better with everything you try. :)
Thank you Elizabeth :) I will try!
this turned out so lovely!
Fantastycznie to wykonałaś! Tak mi się podoba jak to zrobiłaś że niedługo będę na pamięć znała cały ten filmik! Oglądam go już kolejny raz...piękna ta bluzeczka!!
I love the way you explain it and seems so easy as you do it...makes me feel like I can do it too! Thank you!! You're amazing!! Keep uploading diys please!! 😉💙
Thank you!!

This top is amazing... I"m going out today to go get myself an old shirt to test this out on. Wow!!
Wao! your channel is amazing!! Everything is soooooo chic, original and pretty!
Thank you!
Great idea to reuse my husband pure cotton shirt, my only concern is the neckline,i am thinking of using the rests of the sleeves to make it properly....
Tried this DIY and I LOVE IT. Thanks for sharing
You're fantastic and the hard thing looks simple ,thank you
This was amazing 😍😍❤❤ unfortunately I'm either too fat or too busty because 2 oversized shirts later and I still failed 😐😐 but you explained it so good that I still had to comment.
PrettyInBinc oh dang! I took me quite a few attempts at my first shirt refashion years ago- back when I had big boobs! And boxier stuff is trickier for Bigger chests for sure. I usually would make the top more of an a line shape versus a box shape so it hugged my chest and was more flattering. Maybe this is something you could try? Or try a flowy fabric?
Elizabeth Bryson Thanks I figured it out a bit but still needs some rework but this is still an awesome tutorial
PrettyInBinc glad I won’t have this problem.... I’m smaller than the smallest bra

Very nice, but I think you should teach people to always iron the fabric before cutting. my teacher insisted a lot on that.

Done. Looks amazing ! Thank you! 😍
Wow amazing
Awesome. 😘😍 can you plz tell me what size that shirt is?! And the measurements u have taken, specially the slanting over shoulders. !?!?!? Plzzzz
Is the shirt you traced oversized as well? Because the sleeves on your finished skirt look longer than the cut ones. You don't need any darts in the front?
Yes the shirt on top is a bit on the boxier side. I cut out the sleeves to be a little longer than the tee shirt. I don't need darts because the top is a more boxy than fitted. If I had bigger boobies I probably would have added darts ;)
Спасибо. По вашему мастер классу пошила себе красивую и стильную блузку!

Però la userò come vestitino x mia figlia di 7 anni a lei va benissimo. Grazie è bellissima
nice video
wonderful
Why do people put the buttons in the back? I must be paranoid because I always think some crazy bozo would tamper with my clothes.
hahaha that is a good paranoia for sure. Some of the time I do sew the back closed when I am worried about it popping open or whatnot.
Cool! 👍
awesome..
Cute but I can’t imagine working on a shirt that is wrinkled.
So many things wrong with this. Use and iron, and instead of showing yourself all hunched over, with your arms crossed in the finished product, just stand there, and let us see how it really turned out.
Why don't you just be grateful that she's willing to share this video in the first place, you watched it yourself
How about you film your own videos however you want and stop bitching on other creators’ content.
nice Nd cool
Nice🙌🏻❤️
The shirt look nicer after you refashion it. Hopefully all women will never experience the tightness at the shoulder with this style.
Too good
Перед переделкой погладь рубашку!
Разве так кроится одежда?
I didn't get some points ! :(
ruffle sleeve 😍😍
جميل جدا💖💖💖💖💪💪💪👍👍👍👏👏👏👏💚💚💚
Por favor subtítulos en español 😰
It's so wrinkled that my eyes hurt.
Mine too...mine too.
If I cut wrinkled fabric I won't get smooth lines, it's a risk I'm not willing to take... again.
Should really iron first.
Ni siquiera plancho la camisa.
Linda
super eeeeeeeee
You shows buttons backside I does not like it
