@@Bio_dub465 45 or 90 . Maybe it’s because it was not required for my state a can parallel & offset but I never had the opportunity to learn alley docking . Only did 2 reps in 30 days
In CDL I was ahown how to do a dock back for the 1st time. The trick is to learn how to anticipate your trailer's movement. My next skill to learn. I am doing decently at shifting, straight back, parallel parking, and offset parking but the alley dock is a whole new animal. 😅
That class ain't shit I mastered all those and one shotted everything on the test and came out here like I was the shit until it was real life backing at a complete jacknife around a bend into a small gate with cars parked all along the sides of the roads it's gotta be perfect the first time or it gets nasty real quick. Or backing across a busy highway or literally any situation in the northeast. That class helps you pass the test they don't care about what's next for you. You'll have a lot more to learn afterwards
And to think for every experienced freight hauler… there’s a dozen guys who either drive the rig like it’s a Honda Civic or don’t take geometry into consideration whatsoever :P God bless these guys, they keep this country running
As of truck driver my self I was doing this in my second week on the road as rookie I think is a gift 🎁 from god and now I am veteran over 7 years experience and I am only 29 years old ❤
I don't know what state you're in, but in CT I found info on there unemployment site for funds to pay for school and they had a CDL program. I applied and they are paying for everything. I am on unemployment because of a layoff, but you don't have to be to qualify. I didn't know states paid for that kind of stuff. I hope you go to school and if you need it, check out your states website. I'll see you on the road my dude.
@hibbidyjibbidyy Presh8 ya bro my dad's a semi retired trucker I've been driving for about 6 months I've caught on pretty quickly but my backing up still needs a little more work
The impressive part is that long nose Pete!! He has time with that thing he probably knows that truck better then his wife. So backing that is a piece of cake for him. I really only drove Freight Shakers. Got in a Kenworth for a Lil while once the timing was drastically different from what I was use to made it hard for me until I got sync up with it.
@bernz23 I do remember ..practice can come at cost I was backing yrs ago 😒 heard twisted metal..got out looked (late) took off a Peterbilts chrome shiny bumper yipes and the owners face was bright red like 🎅 he looked at me then truck back and forth for a good couple minutes and said "Insurance Co" and police our on way 😆 thought I'd be fired etc....but they gave me another chance and I made them boatloads of .money the end.
Yes indeed he's a veteran I've been truckin 22 years it takes years of practice to master blindside backing most local p&d city drivers are known for this due to pressure and time management of delivering product before closing their forced to find a way to cut time in half
Push it and straighten up meaning "get under it" a whacky term for getting your tractor wheels and cab straight, push it and chase it, control that left rear corner of your trailer, you'll never go in that hole with your front wheels all over the place...get a piece of tape, like electrician tape, with the wheels absolutely straight put a piece around the wheel top dead center, it's a great trick to know where your wheels are, roll down that driver window and look out at first too before you move, see where those wheels are
Most the time I back a trailer, I have to blind side it in. Done blindside enough I've gotten pretty good at it, and it feels weird doing it the preferred way. Nice thing about a flatbed is, you can pretty much still see where you're going.
I've been driving with a 10 foot trailer for work. We just got a 30 foot rv and it's not that difficult but shit like this. Is a different level of skill
For a person who can parallel park a fire engine and find an airport 200 miles away In the Dark without GPSI am still baffled by the fact that humans can do this awesome

One thing i can say that it’s not taking into consideration by some is the tandem placement. Ive seen some drivers scrape parked semis because they back in thinking their tandems are all the way back and they back in accordingly. Just based on what i witnessed in multiple truck stops.
Those long nose trucks 🚚 are difficult to bsck because you really can't see the rear of your trailer in your left mirror. I would've G.O.A.L'd about 8 times. LOL😂😅😂!!!

It depends. If you really want it you’ll get it in days. But yeah if you never driving a truck that big 53ft it’s gonna be hard. It’s all about small turns wen backing and closing the gap and opening the gap.
I’d say a week like the previous reply. But to really get good at the angles with longer frame tractors or trailers with axles forward, middle, or all the way to the rear, takes time to learn how the different swings of each type are. I say a month, to be able to back all combinations
