      Circulation and exchanges are key. Both for air and water then things can't REALLY get out of control and if it does it will be so slow that you can notice and correct before it negatively impacts or very minimally.

      I would definitely recommend you pay attention to ventilation growing indoors. A number of folks I know with largeish systems run dehumidifiers as well in the basements.

    Hey Rob great video again
    I see you've made a more of a wicking pot then a regular dual root zone.
    Normally you do not want the water wicking up into the soil.
    That's a cool adaptation of the dual root zone method.

We talked about building a proper organic soil with all the amendments but if im leaving the system behind, again not at this place, Keep up the good Videos.

    Very cool. So are you saying that plants are able to send their roots through the water saturated sand and also through the fabric pots into the clay medium? Is that why you call them "dual root zone"? I would have thought the fabric pots would prevent roots from growing out of the bottom?
    Also, does the sand at the bottom prevent the "perched water table" effect of the potting soil in addition to wicking the water upwards? Or does the potting soil portion at the bottom of the pot stay saturated with water?

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  Рік тому +1

      I have issues with these pouches sending roots through to the soil when I leave them on the ground. Only one or two make it through but once they do the roots fan out. The potato roots I showed in this video partially blocked the drain which caused the water to rise. That in turn grew algae on the surface of the clay which you can see in the video. I probably should have mentioned that but didn't trying to keep the video short.
      The pouches wick just like the Larry Hall style rain gutter grow system only with aquaponics water. The only difference is that I let the LH style trays of pouches dry out once a week where the base sand layer of these aquaponics ones are wet all the time as you pointed out. I find that the sand its very wet but the base layer of the soil is only moist.
      I did have issues through very wet spell with the soil being saturated when we had a few weeks of fairly constant rain.

I'm just curious and want to learn. I want to see some different fruits and vegetables and cannabis growing in the dual route zone successfully. I don't know where to find any pics or videos. Okay, this a conflict of interest 100%. The Ponics dude hates everything that has anything to do with sand. He’s actually a bully and a jerk about it, he sounds so smart while he’s talking about the subject, but he’s being paid by clients to build systems and he won’t touch sand because it’s other people’s research and turf. He will harass people to no end. He’s clearly wrong, yet he will continue to bully over the internet, and then you have Owen the sand dude in the same video? You know, Owen looks like he has a pretty good setup? I made one sand bed to use my fish waste for, and if anything, it’s a free bed. It’s no extra feed for the fish, and it produces better than my other beds. In my opinion, the guy talks a good talk, but at the end of the day Ponic’s is a salesman on his own setups, and a ruthless jerk on other setups that he’s not selling.

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  Місяць тому +1

      I don't see it as a conflict of interest at all. I have been hounded & abused by sand folks & still think it's a viable system. I'm interested in the technology & how it can help us as a whole, not the egos & personalities of the folks pushing their agendas.
      Cheers & happy growing.
