Normally the thwomps are never seen until you enter the castle (the 1st 2 thwomps). And that bowser laughter is the same one used for Bowser's Castle.

Please don't think you have doen a brilliant job with this port, like everyone here says. It definitely needs some improvements. Maybe you could add vertex colors or just darker textures, a darker posteffect in the castle. Further the platforms at the end really need movement, there are plenty of objects that are able to do this.
I haven't driven on it, but so far I can see there is no moving kcl at the big pipe. That shouldn't be a problem.
