Picked up one of the talking units about 6 months ago... I found out I didn't care for it talking to me! It was only 2 bucks more and at least you can turn off the voice as you power up the unit! Otherwise it's very convenient and accurate enough! I keep it in my solar shack cabinet... It kinda tears through the AAA batts, but it's worth having a meter you can use up on a ladder and the display is really easy to read! Thanks for the great video on this unit!
Thanks, yes I prefer the model without voice prompts. Voice prompts help verify what some of the manual settings are though. Thanks for watching! 👍
Thanks for this video! I just got one of the 3009 units and the operations manual did not have instructions for turning on the flashlight. Your video answered that frustrating question. Thanks again for the very well-done video !!! Keep up the good work 😊. Ted
Thanks for the feedback. Let me know what you think of the multi-meter. Thanks for watching! 👍
Saw this in your EDC 3.0 loadout. Looks really handy to have in an EDC kit, which I often use for trouble shooting things.
Very handy. Surprised there aren’t more on the market.
The 3 Phase Sequence Detection feature is most interesting. 😎 Thank you.
Yes that’s a good one. Thanks for watching! 👍
Very awesome detailed review! I need a multimeter and non contact voltage detector for typical homeowner and home mechanic use. For example, right now I'm troubleshooting my HVAC system and control board and also, I'm shopping used cars and wanted something to be able to test batteries very quickly. I picked out the Aneng brand on Amazon and started looking for reviews, which led me to your video. Would you recommend the A3009 or A3008 for my needs? Are there any situations when the frequency detection would be useful for me? I don't really feel one way or anpther about the voice broadcast feature personally. Thanks for your insight and time!
Either meter is fine. Checking Frequency rarely comes up. I can tell you I’m very happy with the meter, just used it the other day. It’s super convenient. 👍
Thank you for recommending this video! I like these pen style meters for quick checks then bringing out a real meter if need be. I’ve been using a Fluke 101 as the lightweight “first responder” meter. It looks like this pen has similar features in a smaller form factor. I’ll have to check it out, and perhaps cut the wire to the speaker 😂.
Yes I like the Fluke 101, but it’s not backlit and it’s larger than these pen style meters. I have a link to the one that doesn’t have voice prompts. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching! 👍
Yeah, I like it a lot too. Not only is it a full featured multimeter that works very well, but I still haven't replaced the battery a year later and it's the only multimeter I use now. It's just that much more convenient. Mine is super accurate. My other Aneng a8009 is dead on too with my voltage reference. All the way out to 3 decimal places it's right on the money which is nice when you're measuring any kind of batteries. The whole multimeter in a pen it's just too convenient. It works too well.
Anyways, you forgot to mention a couple things. Auto mode won't detect very low voltages. Something under 1 volt. But manual mode is good to go.
Also, manual continuity mode works way better, it latches a lot faster. But if you just need one quick test auto mode is still easier.
It has auto off. It beeps three times to warn you then it beeps one last time and shuts off. I like that.
Pretty cool multimeter.
You are exactly right, it's just too convenient and works well. It's also the only multi meter I use pretty much all the time. I did not know that auto mode didn't support voltages under 1 volt, thanks for passing that along. Good point about continuity latch time being better out of auto mode. I like the auto off too. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Very good demo as both seems like good products ... Thx
Time will tell, so far, not bad at all. Thanks for commenting! 👍
Regarding Aneng ANENG A3008, if you put this into diode mode and there is a short, will it make a beep noise??
I have a neoteck version I got on Amazon for 17 bucks and it works great I don't deal with more than 277 volts normally so it works perfect I use the hot wire tester most of all to find the electrical issues in ballast wires
It is super convenient. I wish fluke made one. Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍
Excellent take-anywhere tester
So far it has worked great for me. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing. 😉👌🏻
I hope to see more meters like this. Thanks for watching! 👍
thanks sir for sharing your experience. i have ordered the a3008. and I found the 3009 with close price. are there any difference or add on except the annoying sound?

Подозреваю, у 3009 нет измерения частоты
Hi, thanks for this informative video!
But I also have a question. Does the Aneng 3009 have a way to turn off the voice broadcast? Otherwise these are nifty tools to have on hands when you don't want to carry a big multimeter around!
Yes, I show that in the video here: ua-cam.com/video/xp6Dg5SYF9k/v-deo.html and the A3008 is the same without the voice feature. Sometimes the voice feature is nice in that it tells you want some of the less frequently used features are but otherwise, I prefer the 3008. Thanks for watching!
I have a Mustool MT007PRO looks the same as the A3008 It works great
Same price?
Might be the same
How precise can it read the frequency (hertz) ?? if i have an output of a 21.34 kHz, can it read it ??
Yes it can.
@@projectpinehills thank you
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
How did you insert the black cable pin into the end of the pen? There is no way for that plug to fit in there as it is! Do I have to remove something?
You have to remove the cover on the plug itself before using.
Thank you so much. I almost broke it and was ready to return. 1 hour in full sun in the car and couldn't find this. What seems obvious, I could not tell there is a cap on that plug. Thanks again!
Does this mean I can Retire my Archer (built from a kit) 28-4014A?
lol, vintage 👍
@@projectpinehills yeah, but it works
That’s awesome! 👍
I built one of those as a kid also.
What would you use for finding wires in walls
Can you give me an example?
@projectpinehills like thin wire just under plasterboard to try find the route of it

Should i use it in industrial enviroment?
Sure. I’d use it for anything except maybe high voltage. Thanks for watching! 👍
@@projectpinehills is 500V ok?
Hello .How the screen is visible outside and sunlight .
It’s high visibility, works great. 👍
I have that meter. It was not used for a few weeks and the battery was was totally dead. It must have a current draw when off.
I have two of them and they are both using the same battery the multimeter came with. It’s worth trying a good alkaline battery.
I’m a appliance service technician and I’m getting one of these, anything to lighten my veto pro pack
It’s perfect for that. Thanks watching! 👍
As a lefty I always find pen multi meters cumbersome and backwards, the display is upside down or impossible to read, making the convenience of being small and portable irrelevant. I had though gee wouldn’t it be great if it could talk!
Now I want on that sounds like a sexy female British spy!
You know, you make a great point. If I operated it left handed, it would seem backwards to me. Need a display that can flip. A British accent would be nice lol. Thanks for watching!
Very convenient
Super convenient. Been working great. 👍
I've been trying to find a DC non-contact voltage tester. Does anyone make such a thing?
Not that I am aware of. What voltage level are you looking to detect?
@@projectpinehills 5 to 60 volts
@@pops9190 , if the DC voltage is coming from a switching powersupply, like a 5V smartphone USB charger, most of the cheap Non-contact voltage tester respond to that, even if they are marked for AC. I have a generic one marked with 1AC-D, and i have the Aneng VD-901.
The 1AC-D is marked for 90 - 1000VAC and the Aneng VD-901 is marked for 12-1000VAC , but both react to the switching noise of a DC power source (if the DC is a switching powersupply), even at 5V.
On a linear bench powersupply at 5V, both don't respond at all.
I use this trick with a 5V USB charger to locate breaks in cables. With only 1 wire (+5V or the -5V) of the USB port connected with a alligator clip to the cable to inject the switching noise, a Non-contact voltage tester can find the break within 1 centimetre. Grtz
Can you turn off speaker ?
Yes.
can it be turned off permanently, or do you have to use two button method each time?
Can’t be done permanently from what I can tell. I would just get the non voice model.
Basic Aneng A3005 fulfils need in budget.
Yes it does. Thanks for watching! 👍
Aneng A3009 can measure current?
No, volts only. Thanks for watching! 👍
👍
Thanks!
only one main problem with all these types of budget pen multimeters is they don't have current (amps) measuring feature
It’s a convenience tool, got the clamp meter for current. Thanks for watching! 👍
@@projectpinehills😭need Hz i buy 009 no Hz🤦🏼 fitur is gone or 🤷🏼
I don’t understand what you are saying.
@@projectpinehills how to use 009 Hz feature🤷🏼
@@projectpinehillsis it only available on the a3008?
what if I'm looking for 4700 ohms ?
Use your bench meter. Thanks for watching! 👍
Compare to the kaiweets st120
The ANENG is smaller and adds the non-contact voltage testing feature. Thanks for commenting and watching! 👍
Funny to see the 3009 priced less than than the 3008...
Yeah I noticed that too.
3009 doesn't have frequency meter, 3008 have@@jimmtech
@Andrewasilewski That’s right. 👍
How to disable voice in it?
That’s in the video here: 4:41. Thanks for watching! 👍
@@projectpinehills Thanks a lot!
Really appreciate!
@@igorkaplinsky I improved the link to the video at 4:41 that cover this. Thanks!
