I bought the album Thriller the year it was released, I’m old :-), and I hummed along with this song many times. It took this version of Angelina, slowed down, stripped down, to make me really hear to lyrics. Michael’s version makes me want to dance. Angelina’s version wants me to kick back, grab a drink and bob my head.
Somehow I think Angelina used to play with legos, as she breaks down songs to their smallest parts and rebuilds them to something very different and still very similar as well.

When I saw she had covered this Iconic song, I was concerned, but I didn't have enough faith in Angelina's skill and talent. Like many say, "I never knew what the lyrics were." They are very troubling, but that's an aside. This has turned out to be one of my favorites.

There is nothing this young genius can't do. I really love how Angelina takes on these 'untouchable' songs and artists, and she does it in such a unique way that it never tries to 'outdo' the original, or be 'better' than the original. She just comes out and says "this is how I hear the song", and it ends up adding to our understanding of the original. I don't know how a kid can do that with so many untouchable songs, but she does it every single time. As I watch Angelina grow, I feel like we are getting early access to a Freddie Mercury, or Jimi Hendrix, or some of the other giants talents throughout history that we only discovered as adults.
You said it perfectly. I have been watching her since she was 7 and won Norway's Got Talent. When I saw her sing Queen and Elton John on AGT and found out she rearranged it herself. She is a modern day genius, I can't wait til she starts to mature and do more original stuff, I hope I live long enought to enjoy alot of it.

This recording reminds me of what I like most about Angelina (besides her amazing vocals) - is her simplicity - there is never anything flashy because there is no need for it. Her arrangements are extremely simple - in most cases just one or 2 instruments, videos are simple, just a few items on the screen - (no dancing girls, no visual effects), she is simple - love it.
When talent and genius are there, no need of those distracting fancy tricks...Just pure and sheer talent. And I am sorry to say you won't find that with those " belting" mainstream ladies.
Now you know who can turn rock & roll to jazz...yes that's her!!!

This was never a favorite song of mine, but listening to Angelina put her twist on it, it’s really starting to grow on me fast. Her vocals are truly phenomenal, there is so much complexity, sensitivity, texture, colour and depth in there it takes several listenings to even start to appreciate that….. utter, utter genius!
This thing that Angelina does with her covers, making them her own, reaching out to touch our soul, taking us back to the 1940-70’s with her jazzy sound and retro styling is just so, so perfect, it’s amazing.
The world is ready for a period revival, which she is going to lead…. she is going to set the world on fire I just know it!

@ws 2019 Angelina is much better than Cornell. Cornell doesn't really imprive anything in MJ's performance OR change anything. Angelina is better than MJ. She shifts the song from MJ's perspective to Billie Jean's. Listen to Angelina several more times. It is a masterpiece. (And while I appreciate the artistry I hate "Billie Jean".....until Angelina's spin-- perfect)
@ws 2019 she slayed the king of pop. I don't know if she realizes what exactly she achieved in this cover.
Again: Cornell adds or changes little imo (my ear and understanding -- that's all). Angelina completely and utterly transforms the song while keeping the theme and the essence of the story and retells the story from the CORRECT perspective. She is brilliant in understanding what Billy Jean is really about (and I never did before) and getting it right -- she may even understand something MJ did not -- or did he?
(Full disclosure: I hate most all pop and esp "Billy Jean" while I can recognize MJ's talent and artistry. Billy Jean is much of what is wrong with pop and Angelina reveals it. I had to listen ten times to her to understand it. She is therapeutic and transformative and a remedy for pop and pop culture.)
@ws 2019 You are right. It is different, but the feeling & meaning are the same for me. I should say I don't at all like what he did (it's worse). There are parts that are nails on chalkboard (to me). I don't get that with MJ. MJ is brilliant but I hate everything about it (if that makes sense to you). With Angelina, I love it all and can't stop replaying it.

Also it’s very wordy as opposed to melodic singing, so you need to rely on your character of voice and technique, so as far as from a singing standpoint,
it was interesting to see how Angelina would handle this type of song witch does not allow much vocal range or vocal room to manoeuvre ..
With all the brakes in her Voice and Jazzy/ Blues runs, slight rasp + soft vocal fry, AJ handles it As usual, with supreme mastery of her own style .. just when I thought she cannot surprise me anymore.
She has.. she actually not only made it work for her Voice but again, made a iconic untouchable Song her Own.
I’m still expecting something very quirky from her very soon that will surprise a lot of ppl, but I can see it coming with how her Voice + singing

You spoke good. I realize that MJ effortlessness tends to make one think he didn't express much vocal range but the range in this song is extraordinary. She reminds as she goes top to very low.
@@vinceballou4630 I was talking about more the range of the song or room to manoeuvre vocally in the verses.. I was pinpointing the fact that it is Very wordy as opposed to very melodic singing, when the song is wordy like that, its mostly one tone and not fully sung stretched notes etc .. with so much words in the verses, the only time the song go’s up a couple octaves is in the chorus.. Angelina played about a bit with it by adding some ad-libs in a higher octave, than dropping it back down.. very creative.
Also the song is more spoken out than sung out because of all the words.. all the breaks in AJ Voice or singing style delt with that easily.
if you listen back to how Michal J did it, he is very snappy on the beat with his wording.. as his Musicality is different to AJ.. Michal Lived in the Beat/ rhythm .. his dancing and body movements expresses that to a Genius Level .. Michal was hearing and dancing to a rhythm only he can hear..
Angelina More has her own timing/ tempo/ cadence that sometimes drops off the tempo half a second, then she stretches some notes an till the tempo catches up with her.. This rendition had no drum beat, so it helped with what AJ was doing to it stylistically as a More Jazzy formate.. also AJ rendition was slowed down so it left a little more room to manoeuvre some of her jazz/Blues runs and also add some emotion in some parts of the song were Michal did not have it in there.
Your correct in the fact she made it look easy, by flipping the song on its head stylistically and being very creative with all The wording for me it was yet again, Genius. Showing Angelina jo is not just a good singer but a phenomenal Artist as well.
You see, you can change up the song stylistically but you still must deal with all the wording that limits vocals range in The verses.
But if you flip the song on it’s head, the world is your oyster.. but still managing to not flip it to much so it’s still authentic to the original is
a fine balancing act.. Now that’s the Genius Part..
