You’re absolutely right about the Online Play. Just had to get off due to players running away from me as soon as I get my special. They wait and wait until your meter goes down, and wash, rinse, and repeat. 🤦🏾♂️ Needless to say, I’m 11-5 now. Should’ve been 14-5 due to people quitting as well and me not getting the win. But I’m having fun. 🤣 I’m enjoying this game.

Trust me, the game sucks, gameplay = 1/10 = smash button game there is no reverse logic/pattern.. graphics suck, story mode has no story. this is a kenny omega retro game about himself, he's in almost every preview. graphics look weird it would be fine for a nintendo 64 game but it couldnt be a triple A game.
At first I was like meh, but after playing it a few days later I really enjoy the art style and gameplay and like the fact you can be satisfied picking this up and playing it 20 mins here and there. If they just add another 12-15 more wrestlers and a steel cage and an interactive backstage brawl this game would be fire.
The best I can say about this game is that it's just okay. It's fine if you have alternatives to play like 2K or Fire Pro, but if this is the only wrestling game you own then you'll be bored after a week. If they take this same concept and add more match types and more creation features then it'll be a winner, but this game feels pretty much DOA at this point. I don't think they're going to add a lot of live service because that requires the game to be profitable.
To me, this feels like a budget title that should be priced at about $40 at not at $60. It can be a great foundation for future titles, but there is definitely allot of work that needs to be done.

There is one word to describe this game: *potential.* Not "wasted potential", just as of now regular potential. They for the most part NAILED the gameplay. But everything else around it needs work. Ironically despite being named "Fight Forever" the matches are too short, the career mode is *GARB,* the creation is lame, and the roster despite having the most big names of recent wrestling history is kinda limited (but that one can be adjusted if the Forbidden Door DLC rumors are true). Now only time will tell wether or not this comment ages like wine or milk.
I agree with your review. The fun/innovative things are done really well. The biggest issue I've had is everything is limited. Entrances are cut short, there are no backstage areas, limited match types. There's definitely room to improve here.

obviously Yuke is just now getting back into wrestling games and has been a bit rusty at it, what was their last wrestling game made? oh yes, 2018. arguable not that far off and the current wwe games are made by 2k and Visual Concepts, and not doing just as well. AEW game is different but not as different, because how can you improve a formula that's fought from the same camera angle and use the same mechanics (i think same could be said about any triple A sports game nowadays). AEW road to the elite i think was going for a visual novel approach with its interactions, because its well expected for Japanese games with rpg elements even with games likes say Jikkyō Powerful Pro Yakyū (and its MLB power pro counterpart) does something like that perfectly well, AEW does it awkward at least anime characters standing Infront of a beautiful drawn background is more fine then what ever AEW did. another gripe i can agree on is the match types there is not a lot but also the number of wrestlers in the ring is just 4 even in a casino battle royale. that has to be a biggest downgrade i ever seen in a wrestling game, mean while Mdickies wrestling game is able to handle and replicate chaotic multi men matches without limiting to 4, 6, or 8, why hasn't yuke or 2k played around with that? i guess it might improve on monthly basis even when Stadium stampede get added to the game, but if that's online only, i will just play Wrestling empire. Maybe mat could do a better stadium stampede.
Another problem with the weapons is that if you fall on top of them and someone proceeds to stomp you, you will be stunlocked, the game has many issues but does a lot of good things, it is definitely not worth $60 for a lack of customization and lack of games modes
Having NOOOOO match options is the real kicker for me, cant have a pinfall only match by disabling submissions, cant have submission matches by turning off pins, cant have a tornado tag when going 2 on 2, cant have 2 on 2 ladder matches cant have elimination tag matches and no tournament mode, its lacking the expected fundamental basics of a wrestling game.
I believe it's not as bad as the TNA game but not greater than the SVR games. More like a student who prefers to have passing grade rather than getting a perfect score.

You really nailed the issue that I personally have with this game. They took the "We want it to be like No Mercy!" thing to the extreme, apparently lacking any common sense at all. Yes, we wanted the gameplay to be like No Mercy, but we wanted a *modernized* No Mercy. There were a helluva lot more limitations back then. They should have used the current technology to make a No Mercy game that's at least 10X better. They modernized the graphics to at least some degree, but how about expanding and improving on everything else No Mercy did, QoL improvements, and getting rid of that 4 wrestler limit during a battle royale? (Yes, I know there's the upcoming Stadium Stampede update that will be 30-man online, but the battle royale already in the game is still limited to 4 guys at a time.) The mini-game thing is just weird. I'll give them some credit in that it is a very interesting idea. I'm not against the idea itself, but the problem is that it should be a spin-off title that's totally separate from this *wrestling* game. It's as if they forgot what kind of game they were making. Like you said, they wasted development time that could have been used to improve other aspects of the game that are lacking. This game just seems like a big mess overall, and it's going to take a long time to flip it. Unfortunately, it's just another example of the shittyness that is the modern gaming developer mentality. They release an unfinished game full of issues, then they come back and fix it up piece by piece whenever they feel like it.
the career mode kinda reminds me of a mix of smackdown 2 with the random nonsense cutscenes and a hint of just bring it, and svr 2009 on the ds, the one where you can go to different places like the gym and train there to boost stats.

It pisses me off hearing the AEW Podcast hyping up the mini games like they were a god send. They are alright but not game changing, and i wouldve dedicated that time and money for a better creation suite or something more useful than goofy budget minigames
The graphics are so controversial. The fanboys need to stop making excuses about "art style" and "no mercy", and the haters need to get glasses. Some models look fantastic, some look off; and this is coupled with some really bad facial animations that make for some bad screenshots in what is otherwise great looking gameplay. Ultimately, the graphics are good, especially at 4k on PC, but could use improvement. I expect models to get better over time, with future DLC drops to look great. Matt Hardy, for example, looks great even up close.

The pin/submission needs some tweaks we should be able to crawl in a submission for ropebreaks instead of just helpless in one spot

Aew fight forever on ps4 online ranked mode is now working thanks to the patch update 1.02 released earlier today.
