Connecting Multiple Ham Radio Antennas To Multiple Radios

- This is how I select the antenna of choice to my radio of choice and not all radios just in the ham radio shack but other locations such as the garage, deck, and work bench area.
Awesome video...thanks for posting Larry!
Thank you for this information I am a noobie technician+ general on my way to extra and this video is really helpful to setup my first hf plus 2m 70cm radios, keep up the good work.
Good info Larry. Always good to see you on here buddy. 73
Great to see you again. I always enjoy your posts. Good idea using multiple locations. I use two positions too. My main rig is a FTDX 10 but I have a long Ethernet cable that allows me to operate my IC 7100 head from another room. I just move the head of the radio to where I am at the time. I hope to see you again soon.
Good idea Larry.
1931! Wow that guy is old. Both are.

Yes! 1931. 93 years ago?! Could that be a park and not a year?
Good to see you making videos again Larry! Keep it up mate.
💯🎸🎸🎸🤘👍
I also have a Yaesu FTdx-3000 and that antenna Alpha Detla Delta-4 antenna switch. Very useful video. 73 PY5WHO
I really like that idea of using the same antennas but in different locations around your QTH.
That power pole cover is also a nifty idea.
Thank you. ;) 73
Those running portable and QRP might check out the inexpensive and light-weight consume cable/antenna switches. An F-type to BNC adapter will convert them to ham use. The one I got even has mega-ohm resistors to drain off static.
You've definitely given me some ideas, Larry! Take care! I hope we all have an uneventful winter! 73 de KF5RHI
Some nice ideas! DC power routed to your deck is handy. I need to get busy and get some switches installed in my shack for multiple radios. 73!
Good information Larry! Some switches and a more permanent installation also save wear and tear on your radio coax connectors. That shot of your tower reminds me that the cord that controls the brake lever on my Hazer has been broken off and will need to be replaced before winter if I intend to bring the beam down. 73 Kevin
Nice system for multiple radio stations! The power supply connection on your porch deck is a good future idea for us here! Thanks for the idea.
Can i combine 2 antennas for a stronger signal
In come cases you can do that but you have to phase them properly with the proper length of coax connecting them together and they become directional, think of the old twin trucker CB antennas you sometimes see on semi trucks. Most of the time you would not want to connect 2 antennas together though. Lot involved to make it work the way you want it.
PRETTY COOL LARRY
Larry, I have a mobile ham radio and a kg1000 GMRS radio that I would like to use 1 antenna for . Can I use a Diawa 2 pole switch without hurting either radio while transmitting? I hear only 1 radio should be on at a time to keep from sending power to the other radio, is that true? These radios only put out 50 watts.
You can use the antenna switch to connect the antenna to one radio or the other at a time and you will be fine but you will only be able to use one radio at a time. You do not want both radios antenna ports connected together in any way or if you transmit on one radio it will send power into the other radio and do serious damage.
@@RadioHamGuy thanks for getting back with me. Some say as long as you use only one radio at a time, on a antenna switch while talking on one turn the power off on the other radio, will that be ok? I am using a switch that connects 2 antennas to 1 radio but going to use it backwards 2 radios to 1 antenna.
Yes, as long as the antenna is only connected to one radio at a time and not both together, and use a good quality switch, not one of the old CB radio cheap switches although they may work but I would not trust them. They need to have good isolation between the ports. You just don't want to transmit power from one radio directly into the other. Must be separate.
@@RadioHamGuy Thanks.
Hey Larry, that Daiwa switch does not stop receiving thru both radios, I can hear from radios with switch in either position. So I think I will just use 2 separate antennas.
This was interesting, thank you. Also thanks for taking the time to do that tour at your place that one day not long ago, we all enjoyed that. Take care.
Well thank you very much. That day was also a lot of fun for me!
@@RadioHamGuy I'm so happy you had fun, I know we all enjoyed and learned a lot
@@GoFishOffice Thanks so much and I subscribed to your channel also now, please keep in touch and maybe hear you on the radio some day.
@@RadioHamGuy maybe one day, no radio yet lol...but in the meantime I thought, if you game, maybe we could do Livestream with you as our guest. Being I not far from you I could come and stream from your place. Or however but I'd like others to see what you do. If you game we can talk further behind scenes
@@GoFishOffice Well maybe we could look into that at some point I guess. Sounds interesting.
