Dean Parks played the guitar solo untreated and Walter Becker ran it through a talkbox after it was recorded in post-production. Parks was unaware of what Becker did to his part until the record was released.
AceTheHeart, I am sorry, my bad I did not noticed you did listen and react to this "Haitian Divorce". Sorry is not a hard word to say which SEEMS to be exceptional. Enjoy all those many GREAT production from not so long ago with very, very talented musicians and singer(s). Hope you have a good healthy life also wellbeing. Thanks!
According to one Steely Dan blogger, “The woman in the song goes alone at the request of her father to get a divorce in Haiti. She fails in that mission, but has an affair there and returns home without having gotten a divorce. But nine months later the woman has a child, and the baby is half Haitian. The song ends with the baby’s background now clear, and her father asking her to go back to Haiti for a Haitian divorce. Great tune, excellent beat.”
Love this song and especially the brilliant chorus .."and Papa says Oh no hesitation no tears and no hearts breaking no remorse ..Ah congratulations this is your Haitian Divorce" . Papa is actually not the father but Papa Doc Duvalier the Haitian dictator at the time. Papa Doc instituted a program to give quick divorces to foreigners visiting the country as a way to increase tourism. It required just one person of the married party to be there, I read that you could go to Haiti bring your new partner and get a divorce and remarried the same weekend. Crazy!! Nice job reacting
I believe that instrument is a talk box guitar performed by Dean Parks. This song shows how divergent Steely Dan is. They cannot be confined to only one genre. Great reaction. Take care.
The song is about an American woman who goes to Haiti to get a quick divorce. The president of Haiti at the time was promising quick divorces even with only one partner there. He was trying to increase tourism. The wife goes down and gets drunk and dresses up really nice and has sex with a Haitian man. She goes back to the states and her and her husband decide to reconcile. Well she ends up pregnant and when the baby is born her husband finds out the baby isn’t his. So she literally got a Haitian divorce. Not only by going to Haiti to get divorced quickly but because she had a baby with a Haitian

This album is very good. I'd suggest Green Earring, it's pretty incredible!
Daddy don't live in that new city: anyone agree this gentleman will like it?
Absolutely!

Wow that's 🔥🔥🔥
A rum and coke is an excellent drink with this SD banger!
And a zombie is even better 😊

This song may be the best on an extremely good album. Try them all including Kid Charlemagne and Don’t Take Me Alive
Try the title track from this album "The Royal Scam".❤
