I did the first one once. I was in a gas station with my 2 year old. I grabbed a drink and as i was turning i saw my son dart for the door and i shoved everything in my pockets(phone, keys, THE DRINK), and darted out the door after him. Also there are no dedicated security guards in most stores and the cashiers are instructed not to interfere with the person who is stealing since the store chains want to avoid having to pay medical bills if something happens
@hrodebrt here In England most of the bigger stores (Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's) have security, but wont accuse you of stealing unless you are a known shoplifter or they have evidence

Fun fact if you go into a store in Illinois without having a means to pay on you, then steal, you can be charged with burglary, a higher charge than just theft. It also shows intent you never were going to pay
In Germany it's only theft if you carry the item past the register without paying for it. Usually when I stock up on beer I pack up whatever amount I want to buy in my backpack and then put one on the belt. Once it's my turn I just tell them how many of them I have and all's good. Sometimes they want to check but that's also ok in my book.
As it should be. Being slapped with a theft charge just for putting something in your pocket is ridiculous (especially since stores have 24/7 surveillance at all angles now so there is no hiding stuff and everyone knows that.)
@@WueuehsbNo one is watching those cameras my man, they're there for reviewing. Make sure no one sees you and you can shoplift all you want. All you gotta worry about is the scanners at the door, remove any barcodes from products before leaving.
@@SleepyStreak at some stores they definitely look at the footage but I meant if they had reason to suspect you the cameras would’ve caught all your actions
When I was younger, I was about to put something in my pocket but I was old enough to immediately realise that on the cams, that looks like shoplifting. I planned to pay
The stupidest part about that logic is if you plan to shoplift the natural thought is to do it with your back turned so the cameras can't even pick up the fact the thing is missing, if it's in an open pocket or was done while facing sideways or away from the shelving the obvious assumption Is that it's not theft Of course there are people too stupid to recognize any of these things but flat Earthers exist as well as people even more stupid than them,
I’ve done the pocket thing plenty of times because you think you are getting something real quick and don’t get a cart or basket and then you run into more stuff you need or want. I’ve also drank a soda in the store but kept the empty bottle to pay for it
@@CutWat I think because I do it out in the open and not hiding and I stay in the store and continue shopping, so it doesn’t look like I’m trying to be sneaky.
once drank some milk cuz my sugar glucose was low (i have diabetes) we tried to pay for it but the store owner INSISTED that its was okay and we don’t have to pay
When I was 4 years old, I shoplifted a stack of postcards from the Yosemite gift shop. Hotel rooms in those days had free stuff: stationary, pens, note pads - and postcards. So in my 4 year old mind, all postcards are free, right? Walked right out of the shop with them. Up the road, in our massive black Buick Special, I was found out. Stop the car. 1960s Dad had to make the command decision. Long pause. Dad rubbing his whiskers. "Aw, the hell with it." And that was that. Since then, I have mostly stayed out of trouble except for a few traffic tickets.
I had undiagnosed “something neurodivergent” and I had a really bad habit of forgetting I was carrying stuff, my mom had to go back into so many stores to pay for stuff. Like, sometimes she made me return things (esp if it was food), but with stuffed animals she usually chose to pay for them. I don’t remember ever really getting in trouble outside of a lecture when we got home and they were like “Where did you get that?!” And tiny me would be like “I have no idea.” Couldn’t have happened if they kept me in a car seat like I was supposed to be lololol.
When i first visited Germany, i thought i was on a weird neighbourhood. Because all the customers would place the items in their bags/backpacks or their pockets.
@@Winchester1201nah (I think) a good chunk of Germany does this and it isn’t considered theft unless you actually leave without paying (I mean as it should be, I should be able to place stuff in my bag/pockets so it’s easier to carry stuff, I should also be able to consume stuff within the store as long as I pay for it before leaving the store)
I used to work at Walmart as asset protection. We always made sure if we knew someone was stealing or their receipt was not correct, the camera guy would come out and stop them. It’s called “past the point of sale operations” and they get charged for larceny 6 and are forever trespassed from the store
I think that is legal. I do that with my daughter, I just make sure to keep the price barcode very visible (or stick it to my fingers if it’s fruit) so they know that it’s still being paid for. At the very least I’ve never had a store employee get mad at us for it.
1. For all the Walmart lifters out there here’s some secrets I’ve learned. Most stores have increased the register tech to know whether you’ve actually scanned stuff. 2. Most Walmarts let you steal, but only to build up a better case. Also speaking of Pikachu, yesterday I pulled the lesser value gold border chase one from a $55 Surging Sparks elite pack. On some listings it’s currently going for $100. I’m hyped because I’ve started a collection for my daughter and I’ve already got a ton of nice ones. Hell I might even end keeping binder of the nicer ones to frame and put up.
So how much of a case do they try to build up? Like if you grab a candy bar every day, as well as paying for something else, how long you think you could get away with it? Also, you don't mean you stole a hundred dollar Pokémon card do you? Seems like that'd be in a case or something.
@@Paulhenry-vb4qq I have no idea I just know at least from the cases I’ve read in the past and depending on the Walmart it can be any from a few dollars up to a grand. Also no the card thing was separate I just wanted to brag about it cause me mentioned Pikachu. I have a family. There is no way I’m risking jail time stealing things I can already afford.
@@samis2642 I don’t understand. I’m not giving tips or anything. I’m trying to inform people who still steal from Walmart so that maybe they realize they aren’t as sneaky as they think and just quit.
@@Paulhenry-vb4qq not Walmart, but my store doesn't call the police unless someone has stolen more than $1000 within a short period of time. (a couple weeks to a month for example) That is not because of any desire to bait people into a worse crime, the police just ticket people who steal less than $1000 so it isn't worth it to the store to make a scene when the shoplifter won't even go to jail and can continue stealing 20 mins later... a few hundred dollars in theft doesn't compare to lost sales traffic from having a squad car with its lights on parked outside the store for half an hour while they write the ticket.
Illinois only requires you pass the point of purchase to get arrested. I know because was arrested in a mall for taking a $5 bracelet past the register to show my friend who was leaving the store.
The best way to deal with these interestions is to just simply avoid being suspicious as best you can. I knew someone who would always talk about how she was being profiled (wore dark baggy clothes) and how she'd be looked at by employees. Wouldn't you know it, she was caught stealing one day. Not arrested, but did get in trouble, of course. Point being that just avoiding situations that might make you look suspicious goes a long way. I avoid looking around constantly, putting my hands in my pocket, fiddling with stuff, etc. It's not hard. Because I like to think about others and how they might see someone wearing a jacket, who is putting snacks in their pockets. It's easier to avoid that. I don't mind if security looks at me, because that's their job... and guess what? I never got in trouble. Accidents happen, obviously, but as I said, I try to mitigate that.
This happened to me as a kid! I tried buying some penny candy but ran out of room in my hands. The owner pulled me away and accused me of stealing even before id finished picking all the candy I wanted. So many tears when he said he was calling the police on me. Definitely a formative memory lol
Yup, I've had this a number of times where I run in for a quick something small, and have to grab something extra. I'm on a cane, so can't hold much, so usually will slip something in my pocket, only one time have I ever had someone question it, and the minute I gestured to the cane "oh, ok" In most places, you cannot show intent to steal until you have passed the final point of sale, because of people like me. Honestly, it's fairly easy to show that there isn't intent, if your hands are full, and you slip something there just to grab something more. And before someone asks, no I never walk out of a place. But being on a cane truly sucks, and most of the time handicap carts either aren't available, or are dead. I've never understood how we can have lawnmowers with swappable batteries, but not handicap carts
I remember being a small young little 24yr old and picking something up so I could buy it and instantly being told to DROP IT! It was surreal, I was living a moment from Oblivion. I didn't do a single thing that seemed suspicious and I was getting my money out. So I put it down and chose not to buy anything from them. They clearly didn't want to make a sale.
When i did security. Like a decade ago. And we had training for retail and stuff. We were told to treat everyone innocent unless they were blatant. They said if you saw someone put stuff in their pockets to acknowledge it but offer a cart or hand basket some people are just holding too many things. And if they walk out give them the opportunity to go back and pay for the item. Part of it was also to get good angles of the individual and to have more evidence. If they walk out without paying after being acknowledged. It does show the intent. If they walk in without any way to pay. A burglary charge could be added. But in any case stfu Friday is still king.
In WA and CA, usually you won't be bothered unless you leave the store. Proof of intended theft is something they must provide, which is easier to obtain if one actually goes past the register. I've had juice and water while shopping in the store, and just leave the empty bottle in my cart so the cashier can ring it up later. I've also put six-packs and such in my backpack and had cashiers ring up one and tell them how many are left, which they often check. If you _do_ happen to put anything in your backpack or pockets, just make sure you don't forget~!
For added context to the first example, having been a manager of a major retailer, this is more or less true. Generally a few criteria are needed to pursue shoplifting charges. 1) We must see the person select the item from the shelf or display. This is to defeat any claims that they brought the item in with them from outside. 2) We must witness the act of concealment. This alone is not a crime, but is sure to arouse suspicion. 3) We typically need to maintain visual to be sure that the person does not put the item down somewhere. 4) The person must pass the last point of sale without paying for the item. This is really the only stage you can prove intent. Generally for a store to prosecute a shoplifting case or to invoke Shop Keeper's Privileged, all 4 of these criteria must be met. Technically, #3 is optional, and has more to do with liability, and can be important if they intend to apprehend the person after they pass the point of sale. If the staff is stopping someone, they need to be dang sure they actually stole something, as any attempt to stop them from leaving the store would be False Imprisonment if the employee making the apprehension is wrong. Generally, if the store chooses to stop the shoplifter, they should be able to identify what the item was, and where on the shoplifter's person it was concealed. Generally, it is perfectly legal to put merchandise in your pockets or a bag. However, doing so is generally frowned upon, and I guarantee you that they will begin watching you like a hawk to see if you pay for it. Other side note, it is very expensive for retailers to attempt to prosecute shoplifting. You have paperwork that needs to be filed by management and coordination with police, which eats man hours, coordination with Loss Prevention, then those same managers and potentially other employees have to go to court and testify as witnesses, which the company still has to pay them for. Those employees are still on the clock while they are at court, and then they are not at work doing their job, so the store has to pay someone else to cover. It is not uncommon for it to cost the store hundreds of dollars at least, in labor and other overhead, to prosecute. Definitely not worth it over low dollar items. On the one hand, going after thieves can be expensive especially if they only steal a few bucks worth of stuff. On the other, criminals catch on to this and get emboldened to steal more... Some retailers like Walmart have been making the news over the last few years by taking a much harder stance against shoplifting. But this really isn't the norm in the industry.
That first example exactly happened to me with the candy bar and everything. I went into the local grocery store as a teenager to buy munchies and had my hands full with soda and little Debbie's so I threw the candy bar in my jacket pocket but I was going to pay for it and the store manager grabbed me before I even got to the registers. Why would I steal a $1 candy bar when I'm buying $20 worth of junk food? I got a misdemeanor and $500 fine and it took me 5 years to get it off my record. Im still salty about it 20 years later it's the only time I've been in trouble from the law and it was complete BS.
Damn that's weird In county where I live security may be like "you are stealing" because most of them think they are allowed to do that but they actually are not allowed to accuse you of stealing if you haven't left the store
I once went to a store while having an already half empty energy drink can in my pocket that I bought in the other store, bought another one, and as I left got arrested for "stealing" that half empty one. Spent a day in the cell until they finally figured out I already had it....
I once tried to put stuff in my pocket while shopping, simply because it was a box of pads and I only needed that, but it's humiliating to buy them without mixing it with several other groceries as camouflage.
I’ve done that before for the exact reason of not being able to hold it. I have cerebral palsy. They were kind and understanding when I was in the checkout line and pulled out whatever I got. I think I needed some bathroom stuff

Your videos are always very entertaining!
I’ve put stuff in my pockets and I always got a SUS look from security and now I understand why. Thanks a lot you’re always giving me a hand❤🖐️
I've pulled it off many times
In the uk, the stealing laws are a bit different, way more relaxed.
How so
@@redline6281 Can't speak for England but if its anything like it is in my country (also european) you cannot be accused of stealing at all before you pass the cashier.
@@lucky_duck323yeah same for NI/ROI, they do stand around at then big chains, but like I got a meal deal, but I usually carry everything, so I just shoved the pepsi bottle in my hoodie pocket, but it was so obvious, no one gave a single flying f*** - also them beepers at the door always go off, like at least 200 times a day, and no one really cares
@@lucky_duck323can confirm one time I had a bottle of diet coke in one of my bag's side pocket bits and I went into Morrisons and back out without any problem cus they knew it had already been bought before and I've been there more than a hundred times so they trust me lol
"more importantly do either of you have a picachu"
Always expect the unexpected
I would have offered a MewTwo card, and asked for a Charizard.
Man... Mike is the guy! 🔥
Fun fact if you go into a store in Illinois without having a means to pay on you, then steal, you can be charged with burglary, a higher charge than just theft. It also shows intent you never were going to pay
Bro turned into a kid in the end🗿
Lmao😂
Well, I’ve known adults who are fans of the franchise, namely since they’ve been fans since they were a kid.
This whole channel is for kids. You are a kid
@@Wueuehsb They do not, ever. No store is paying someone to stare at camera. When they're suspicious of you, is when it gets used.

I think Mike Rafi Law is pretty good, too.
Thx for the idea bud!
You so helpful for i love your videos ❤❤❤
When I was younger, I was about to put something in my pocket but I was old enough to immediately realise that on the cams, that looks like shoplifting. I planned to pay
The stupidest part about that logic is if you plan to shoplift the natural thought is to do it with your back turned so the cameras can't even pick up the fact the thing is missing, if it's in an open pocket or was done while facing sideways or away from the shelving the obvious assumption Is that it's not theft
Of course there are people too stupid to recognize any of these things but flat Earthers exist as well as people even more stupid than them,
I’ve done the pocket thing plenty of times because you think you are getting something real quick and don’t get a cart or basket and then you run into more stuff you need or want. I’ve also drank a soda in the store but kept the empty bottle to pay for it
😂
It's a miracle you haven't gotten in trouble I mean at least you still payed for it but still
@@CutWat I think because I do it out in the open and not hiding and I stay in the store and continue shopping, so it doesn’t look like I’m trying to be sneaky.
once drank some milk cuz my sugar glucose was low (i have diabetes) we tried to pay for it but the store owner INSISTED that its was okay and we don’t have to pay
Law by Mike is a guy who can prove the world guilty

How people in Quora debates :
Yeah that ist steaking we dont do that in germany
@@Winchester1201nah (I think) a good chunk of Germany does this and it isn’t considered theft unless you actually leave without paying (I mean as it should be, I should be able to place stuff in my bag/pockets so it’s easier to carry stuff, I should also be able to consume stuff within the store as long as I pay for it before leaving the store)
I feel like in most of Europe, it's not seen as a problem to just put items in your pocket or even open them if you're still gonna pay.
I FLIPPING LOVE YOU MIKE
AYOO
I once put a bunch of groceries into my bag and dumped them out at the checkout to pay. The lady was a bit surprised and told me not to do it again.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson used to steal Snickers bars from a 7-Eleven in Hawaii when he was a teenager almost every single day!!!!!
Do either of you have a Pikachu got me😂😅
Thanks @law by mike!!!
Nice info
Thank you Law by Mike
Why does the yellow jacket guy look like is wearing socks when he leaves the store
I used to work at Walmart as asset protection. We always made sure if we knew someone was stealing or their receipt was not correct, the camera guy would come out and stop them. It’s called “past the point of sale operations” and they get charged for larceny 6 and are forever trespassed from the store
"Even better, does any of you have a pikachu" bro wants one💀
As a kid now i know thanks law by mike
This man always ends up catching me off guard making laugh. My boy 😂
Security guard here. In denmark you have to leave the last possible payment option before you can get charged with theft.

@@EmperorOfRoma Probably not. But they all look similar at one point
Me and my dad use to eat snacks in the store before paying and then use the wrapper to pay lol
What is wrong with you?
Didn't know mike was chill like that

The best thing about Mike is that he explains laws In an entertaining way, so kids can easily understand too.
Illinois only requires you pass the point of purchase to get arrested. I know because was arrested in a mall for taking a $5 bracelet past the register to show my friend who was leaving the store.
Mike has his priorities straight at the end
Haaaaa! I knew he was gonna touch up on that intent is pretty much unprovable!
Only legends know its re-uploaded
Ok and?
but why was it reuploaded
Thanks for telling me this
Apparently that kid is rocking a rose gold AP...he definitely could afford that $100k 😅
This happened to me as a kid! I tried buying some penny candy but ran out of room in my hands. The owner pulled me away and accused me of stealing even before id finished picking all the candy I wanted. So many tears when he said he was calling the police on me. Definitely a formative memory lol
Well, when i was 9, i stole a piece of gum from a small gas station once. You'll be fine. (This is a joke, please don't steal.)
That "btw do any of you have a Pikachu?" AT the end got me dying
bro collects laws and collects them all
I've actually had the first one happen. I wasn’t stealing and didn’t get arrested, but I did get banned from the shop.
Yup, I've had this a number of times where I run in for a quick something small, and have to grab something extra. I'm on a cane, so can't hold much, so usually will slip something in my pocket, only one time have I ever had someone question it, and the minute I gestured to the cane "oh, ok"
In most places, you cannot show intent to steal until you have passed the final point of sale, because of people like me.
Didn’t know law by Mike was chill like that
Bro got his priorities straight. VALID
These vids always have the funniest twists at the end of them.
"dO yOu hAvE a pIkAcHu?" got my laughing 😂
I remember being a small young little 24yr old and picking something up so I could buy it and instantly being told to DROP IT! It was surreal, I was living a moment from Oblivion. I didn't do a single thing that seemed suspicious and I was getting my money out. So I put it down and chose not to buy anything from them. They clearly didn't want to make a sale.
contracts can be legally binding if you have a parent/guardian co sign the agreement!!!
In Germany you can put items in pocket so long you put them on the counter on the end
that pickachu at the end caught me off guard
Man... This experience is still stock in my head, i should have never done that, now i am traumatized to even go to the stores );
That guy was such a good sport about giving back that charizard
One thing I hate about kids in my town they cross over railway tracks where there "WAS" a no Trespassing sign until someone ripped it off
The pickachu at the end 😂😂
That first example exactly happened to me with the candy bar and everything. I went into the local grocery store as a teenager to buy munchies and had my hands full with soda and little Debbie's so I threw the candy bar in my jacket pocket but I was going to pay for it and the store manager grabbed me before I even got to the registers. Why would I steal a $1 candy bar when I'm buying $20 worth of junk food? I got a misdemeanor and $500 fine and it took me 5 years to get it off my record. Im still salty about it 20 years later it's the only time I've been in trouble from the law and it was complete BS.

In county where I live security may be like "you are stealing" because most of them think they are allowed to do that but they actually are not allowed to accuse you of stealing if you haven't left the store
I once went to a store while having an already half empty energy drink can in my pocket that I bought in the other store, bought another one, and as I left got arrested for "stealing" that half empty one. Spent a day in the cell until they finally figured out I already had it....
