The P0440 can be a nightmare. It can be anything from the gas cap to the charcoal canister to a cracked vacuum line to a faulty switching valve.

You absolutely right , I'm still fighting with this problem on my antique Toyota Avalon 1998 ))) and I'm lucky my emission test will be next year , I have time . My lovely baby Toyota must to give up , or she is going on junkyard next year )))

@@deennrap in my state (CA), you can have one "not ready" (pending) emissions monitor. My shop erased the codes then did the drive to get all the monitors ready except for that one, smog check then performed before the check engine light (code) comes back after a certain amount of driving.
Luckily that revision of the smog rules was made about 5 years ago, otherwise it would be time to junk it.

Great video. That is what Do It Yourself wrenching is all about. Good job including the frustrating parts of the process. And the crank-out canopy is great! Now I want one!
For 30 bucks you fixed something that the dealership would have charged about 400 bucks for. Way to go!

    Great video, comical too!
No dreadfully loud music to obscure the task at hand.
The comment popups were on point.
I had the P0440 and P0446 codes pop up. Started with the cheapest fix first. The gas cap- looked old and tired.
I bought a gas cap from Autozone, the Duralast one.
I know, oem gas caps are the best option.
I didn’t want to erase the code. I wanted to see if the new gas cap sealed properly and the cel light would go off on its own with the new gas cap.
Lucky for me, it did. Took over a week but it’s finally off.
2001 Toyota Corolla- 215,000 miles on it, still runs good.

Happened to me too on my Honda in Fremont, CA. Before I leave the oil change place I always check things that could've been touched. That way they can't deny if they did mess up. Cost them more money than what I spent doing the oil change. Never went back to that place again.

It only through the PF 0440 code and I just reset it while I was driving..My radio has a maestro rr Hooked up to it where I have the gauge is through the radio and head unit is a pioneer...And yes you can reset the codes through the radio I'm wondering if it was just from going on the rough road because the code hasn't gone on again... Go to pick 'n save junkyard in Gilbert Or there's multiple locations guarantee they have this vehicle the parts are pretty cheap just bring your tools I just went today to pick up a few Interior parts on my 2013 Mazda six...

Solid vid chelu 🤙 as always. Quick question lai, i just bought a 2005 Corolla automatic transmission and i wanted to ask what do u think is wrong when im going up a hill and the car is in 4th gear and wen it downshifts into 3rd and i step on the gas pedal to go faster the car starts to hesitate but doesnt die out, it sounds like a jerking type of feeling. I change the plugs already new fuel pump and injectors, idles smoothly wen i come to a stop. The problem only happens wen the car is under load and wen i step on the gas 3rd and 4th gear only. 1st and 2nd gear no problem. U think it could be the ignition coil?

@@FixItAngel no check engine light and no codes, i also changed the maf sensor and still the same. Its weird cuz it drives good when i dont pedal it but wen i go more then 70 percent throttle its starts to hesitate. I'll just try and replace the coil packs cause there original and the car has over 150k miles. I was checking the problem on UA-cam and everything is leading to a weak coil pack that only gets worst when the engine is under load. I'll let u know if it fixes it. I already ordered 4 and it should be here in about a week. Thanks chelu 🤙

Hello, is used Toyota Avalon with 244,000 miles good buy? It's a 2002 mode, XL. Been on a small fender. But headlight been fix.
Owner spend almost $2000 on suspension parts, rack and pinion, joints here and there.
However when I open the oil cap, there some carbon build up on it along inside the engine. Where you see it where the oi cap is.
Interior could be nicer but everything look good. No check engine light and no code came up. All for a price of $2100, which he plan to sale for $2500 after what I told him.

all EVAP codes will appear because of open or bad gas cap. you can try to put some silicone grease on the rubber gasket and then reset the light. it might work but always better to change to a new gas cap. keeps you from second guessing. but change gas cap to genuine OEM part. don't buy aftermarket. I was a used car tech at Toyota. We always change the gas caps from trade-ins and auction cars that have aftermarket gas caps.
