- Matterport is a great site survey tool but it has been difficult to perform the scan as the scanner was very big and bulky. However, now a tiny camera such as Insta360 One X can do the 3D scan in a matter of seconds. See how it is done in this video!

The example tour that I showed 0:11 is Matterport's example project, not scanned by One X or by me. I did scan the home that I was recording the video, but the quality and accuracy is not nearly as good as the example.

Great video. Just wanted to add a life hack for the tripod. A customer unfortunately knocked over my OneX and EVO and scratched all the lenses! The one thing I found that makes the tripod the most stable and practically unknockable, not to mention you can use it on stairs!!! I just use a 2.5lbs Dumbbell weight. The cirle in the middle slides in perfectly. Trust me, you want this outside.

Everyone wants cheaper housing yet panic when the housing actually gets cheaper.
So I don't need to do any editing for the photos using affinity photo for example? it is enough right? Also, can I get the panaromas to host on another platform of choice If needed? or since I do it in matterport, it is just for matterport only?
You just can't really edit any photos. Matterport doesn't allow you for it. Neither the production of photos for other platforms.

You have to take pictures within the Matterport Capture app. You don't get to choose.

Hi! I would like to ask what is the difference between the two insta360 X2 and One RS 1inch 360. I am using insta360 x2 But the problem is when uploading in matterport the image is not that clear. Hope you can give me a clear explanation coz i am just planing to buy the One RS 1 inches. If theres no different the clarity of the image i rather stay on the insta360 X2. Please help me to decide. It is the Matterport who dictates the quality. I find the pictures off the cameras are often much better than what you see on the Matterport uploads. And RS 1inch 360 isn't compatible with Matterport just yet. Again, that depends on when they decide to take on the newer cameras.

No, you can't remove people. But you can blur them from the software. The battery depends on the camera you use. There are more recent models that are better.

There is quality and tolerance differences. You can look up those information on Matterport's website.
Would you use this for BOMA Architectural Survey, say in a building where you had no info before you arrive, and need to get accurate measurements for walls cabs and doors. I do very large BOMA surveys, and would like to step my game up. I'm thinking for sites where I know I won't return. But I need the ability to gather dimensional data from the 3d file.
For something like that, you want to use LiDar survey method as this is not really as accurate.
Hey which Settings Are the best for the Camera? I dont know Why the Camera quality is so Bad in my Matterport App!
Unfortunately, you can't change any settings. Matterport seems to be downgrading the quality. My tip is to get as much light as possible.
I got the theta and let me tell you DONT their customer service sucks
It's almost as much to buy a replacement camera as it is to get a repair.
I honestly got a Samsung 360 can and ya know it's pretty good.
Although I'm getting rid of Samsung devices so idk if It will work any more... Like I think I need android to use the camera (Don't do that to yourself either)
And that's why They are 80$ at pawn shops when. They are 300 from Samsung.

I have 360 one x2 .. did scan yesterday .. it disconnected from my matterport capture app a few times despite WiFi setting showing camera still connected ?? Any advise ...
I usually restart the camera when that happens. It seems to connect fine after.
The insta360 One X has been discontinued and they don't sell any anywhere. As much as this would be nice, this isn't worthy at all. Matterport is working it's way over to iPhone cameras. There's not enough support for new 360 cameras.
This is what I have been observing too. As it is not officially said by Matterport, I will stay hopeful that they will support One R and Android phones.
This technology will be widely used. New Unreal engine 5 game just released, and it's all about 3d photogrammetry. The game looks so realistic.

You need to pay them!
What plan are you using? The Starter Plan only allows 5 spaces to scan. What happens if you have done those 5 scans? Do you have to keep them forever and pay 9.99/mo? ^^ I feel that is kind of a rip of from matterport.
Yeah, their doesn't allow much of flexibility. You can archive unlimited amount of spaces. which means you can't view them. I believe you can go back to free account, and just view one active space?
After 5, Matterport will say it can't process more space. You have to archive one to continue.

You have to pay extra to check out the files. You can create the experience with the free plan.
My childhood home was a weather port on the top of a mountain in Alaska. I have photos, but I wish I could’ve gotten a 3D scan of it so I could let me kids walk through it.
And yeah, it’s gone now. Collapsed last year after a heavy snowfall.

I have not used Ricoh myself, so I can't tell you that. Matterport has an article comparing the scan qualities of devices though.

No, but you will have to archive the previous one. You can only keep one active.

You can. They charge a fee for that though.

Nice work, but have you tried doing the photogrammetry yourself in Metashape or Reality Capture? Matterport can get pretty expensive with their cloud services.
Yes, It does get expensive very quickly. Although, I don't have as many active models needed at one point of time. As I am no professional surveyer, the other complex route is not really feasible.
Do you use the Trim , Mirror & Window function to get rid of those items?
I don't really. I get lazy. But you can ;)

It really depends on the condition of the space, but I estimate as half day exercise.

Pro 2 is much bigger camera, but has a lot better quality.
The sample tour that you showed, was that with the Insta360? I wasn't quite happy with the quality of my Matterport tour using the Insta360 but I don't know if I can justify the price of the Matterport camera. I may try the Theta Z1 when it comes back in stock. Any thoughts?
The sample that I have shown is the Matterport's sample. Not something that I have produced with One X. Sorry for not clarifying. I also think there upper tier service also ups the quality. Not 100% sure tho.

Nope! I already have one R and One X2. It is kinda hard to justify the jump!

I don't think that is possible atm. There are some other methods to scan for actual point cloud data.

Yep. Matterport will host it as long as you pay the subscription. And you just provide the link.

No, you have to tell that from 'this' point of scan belongs to another floor. They do have derailed guide on this.

because if you use the android app, you have a option that say import 3d scan and 3d views
Technically, you can edit and upload the photos, but it is quite involved.

It only exports xyz and obj for 3d info. (Matterpak) I suppose it will need some conversion.

You can, but it is a bit clunky.

Oh, the biggest number of scans I had was around 50-60.

Matterport Scan app will control your camera and set whichever image setup it is necessary to use. Perhaps make sure you got good lighting?

That's a very good question and actually is one that I am asking myself too. I tried to build the 'maintenance' cost into the price, so I just manage under my account. YMMV.

I have not had much of connection issue, but I've hear some people with similar issues.
Perhaps reset the wifi on the phone and try connecting right next to it? Relaunch app? That's all I can suggest.

I wouldn't use the floor plans to build from, but it's perfect for giving client the idea of the layout.

Room dimensions were quite accurate. The 3D model is not easily edited as it is basically a big blob. And quite costly, too.
I'm using the Insta360 One x with Matterport and my walk through turn out ind of bright. The ISO was cranked way too high. Is there a way to adjust the brightness when scanning?
That's strange. I have not seen an option to do so. Was there bright sun light in out door? Was it perticular shot? Or all walk through?
hey Stephen, Insta360OneX does produce bright images, there is a trick to overlay custom filters and event branded text, go to: mpembed.com you need to read the documentation to make it work. PS. bright photos still look great.

The price depends on the purpose. If you don't need to share the project, you can keep 1 project active free and get measurements too.

It gets uploaded on the Matterport's server and hosted from there. It is done only on iOS devices or Android

Nice job! Did you consider at any point Theta Z1? I'm still fighting my thoughts about it... One X is cheaper, but Z1 creates higher quality of pictures...
I was exposed to one X more than Ricoh theta. So I went with one X. I really enjoyed the stability feature that it provides as I do video often.

Great video! I too recently started using matterport with the Insta 360 one x. How is your quality so good?! Mine looks "blown out" and "noisy" looking. I've switched to using Kuula for now.

That's absolutely true. I've heard great things about Kuula too. It is just that some of my clients were very specific about the transition effect, less about the individual shot quality. The Matterport was the right choice for that

Hi! Nice video. I wanted to give it a try but found out i cant with android, so i thought about getting an iphone 6s. My doubt is that in matterport webpage they recommend 128gb free storage space plus 8gb more. They also say iphone 6s or above is recommended but iphone 6s only comes with 64gb max storage memory. So thats my doubt. I wanna have clear what to buy without making mistakes. Hope u can give me a hand. Thanks!
I don't think all 128gb will be needed for the Matterport purpose. 6s would be a minimum in terms of hardware, but I think it would be fine.

It is possible to scan the garden. The file format they provide is obj with a fee, which you can bring to SketchUp. It will have some missing details however.

You can. But there is extra charge.

Hi Joshep thanks for the vid is helpful. I ama beginner in the 360 world. When you tranfer the shots to the matterport platform Can you edit the photos? how do you remove the tripod?
You cannot edit the photos. But your camera should attempt to remove the tripod or monopod it is sitting on automatically. Mine removes the center rod, but you can still see the 3 short legs.
how to connect 360 to matter port ... its always says i should connect too wifi of the cam first .. i got it .. but if i go in matterport again it says again connect to camera -.-

Are you using the capture app? I do get that some times, but eventually it will pick up if I restart the app whilst being connected to camera's wifi
