6'4 with 36in inseam here. Two words...moto bars, basically riser bars but with a crossbar for strength. 4" to 5" in. rise and still looks great. I like the Whiskey Milhouse or Surly Sunrise bars.
I am 6'4" and own an XL 2020 Haibike Allmtn 2.0. Best bike I have ever owned BUT.. The xl has a reach of only 461mm. I have tried different handlebar and stem sizes but nothing works. If I stretch out the cockpit to where the bike fits then the bike handles like a bus on two wheels. I am glad to see your coming out with the topic of size. I really wish I knew that manufacturers all had their own sizing before I bought my bike. Unfortunetly, due to COVID-19 there were no bikes to test ride at any bike deaIerdship. I am 69 years old, have early onset Alzheimer's disease, and am living on a small fixed income. My wife said to me, "You can only buy one emtb to last you the rest of your life so make sure it is the right one." Since I didn't understand about reach and believed that one xl bike is the same as another, I will be stuck the rest of my life with a great emtb that doesn't fit.
I'm only 5ft with 26in inseam...I have an Orbea Wild FS H20...had to get a 100mm dropper, shorter stem and higher rise bar, but it works!! The dropper makes bikes possible for short people. BTW, it's 30 inches from the floor to the top of my saddle. When we sit on them, it compresses a bunch. And I lean to the side.
My wife has a xs giant liv tempt at the moment and I can’t find anything that will replace it in the emtb world. Don’t mind about price, suspensions, anything else, just the size is too big for anything we’ve been able to try. Need to find a giant dealer with an xs in stock to test ride.....
@@toranaandy2245 the XS Liv ebike should work. Look at reach, not exactly standover (based on that no ebike would fit me). Being short, I know not to look at standover. Short people need to lean to 1 side when they stop. Never stand in front of the seat. Even my 26in dirt jumper doesn't allow space if I stood over the top bar.
@@kitephil look at reach, not standover. For us vertically challenged, only a 20in kids bike would give us "standover clearance". Short people have to learn to lean a little to 1 side when they come to a stop. Dropper is definitely a must!!
I have a truck rail 7. I took the advice of Chris and went down in tire size from 2.6 to 2.4 . In eco added 20 miles of battery range. Using maxis Aspen tires. Thanks Chris
The 2021 Saracen Ariel50e XL is a massive bike. 525 reach, 655 stack, 465 chainstay and 1330 wheelbase all on 29er. 160/250 front/rear travel. (and still available in Septemeber 2021)
I'm 6 foot 1 inch and always bought large, then started getting specialized in 480mm reach, which is xl, put a 35 mm stem on and love it. For me I would go for the larger size bike and shorten stem to 31 or 35 mm.
I still have my road bike, custom built for my weird dimensions in 1967. I'm 6'2", but have short legs (yes, they actually reach the ground, haha) with an inseam length of 29 inches! Anybody else riding it is stretched out flat, looking odd. I plan to eventually get an EMTB; so what size will work without building another custom bike?
Great insight to ebike sizing. I’m 6’2” & ride a 2020 Commencal Meta Power 29 in large that has a 475mm reach. It fits me really well but I think it depends on what sort of riding you intend to do. Aggressive vs XC?
I’m 6’5”. Thank You sooooooo much for this video. Your Geologuest asked/said everything I wanted you to respond to, and you responded with Excellent Information! Again, Thanks !!!
I’m 6’5” and I have a Fezzari Wire Peak XL 29” 800mm bars, on order. Should be here next month. Hopefully I enjoy it. Can’t beat Fezzari for price and what you get, in my opinion.
Controversy .. Against all advice and recommendations I ride an M size Pivot Shuttle and I am 187cm tall. The bike is exactly the size of the L size Nomad 3, and that bike always felt perfect..... thus I went with a size M. I have a 50mm stem in the mail to replace the 35mm as I started riding my other bikes and they all have 40/50mm stems.... Frankly, when you have assist, you can get away with a lower seat post that also seems to help me with various back and other discomforts. Just my 2c ... I have monkey-long arms and legs and comfy on a modern day M or a 2015-ish L. I always loved smaller bikes ...
....unusually, I'd disagree with Steve, re the comment... 'the only difference between frame sizes is the downtube length'. Completely agree with the comments on reach, but as others have said, stack height is really important on an mtb too. Key one for me is also seat tube length...I'm 6'2 with 34/5 inch inseam and anything less than 21inch seat tube length feels a bit on the small side....need to run a very long (400-450mm) seat post. Stack height then comes into play as too low means you are canted forward which can cause neck ache after a long ride...not great.
Need sizing advice for a new 2021 Canyon Spectral:ON. I’m 190cm and have a inseam of 94cm. Witch size should I get? Canyon recommends L, but I’m not sure, because the reach seams short after seeing this video.
Can you guys recommend any good trail shoes/trainers I am a size 11 and I have wide feet I have tried muddy Fox I can’t seem to find anything that will fit my big ass feet
Being 6'8", I was disappointed by this episode. I recently added an emtb to my garage to supplement my road bike, cross bike, and mtb. All of my bikes have custom frames, including my Clydesdale Spur, an awesome emtb. The Ti frame is sized to match my frame by Lennard Zinn, and it is a superb ride. My back used to limit my rides to a half hour or so until I got my first custom bike that let me stretch out on the frame. Now I can ride without back pain as long as I want. One last point, the Bosch motor is great run running when it's off, needed when I ride with unmotored friends, and I think it's worth your time to evaluate how efficient the various motors are when they're off. My friend's emtb is virtually unrideable without the motor on, and I think Bosch should get kudos for their design. Who else is worthy of praise in this area?
My specialized turbo sl is very easy to pedal with no assist on, ran out of battery one ride and pedaled home 3 miles with no assist, and it wasn't bad
Do you mean drag from the motor? Because the weight of ebikes will always be a factor no matter brand/model, They are all much heavier than standard bikes. The less drag you have the better, But no matter what, It will still be a harder workout than a non-ebike with the motor switched off.
@@mozzjones6943 Yes, the drag from some motors make the e-bikes close to unrideable with the motor off. My Bosch motor doesn't seem too bad, but it seems like that drag is worth mentioning in reviews. Haven't we all outridden our batteries and needed to limp home? If two bikes were comparable in most ways but one's motor was a bigger drag off, that is worth mentioning imo.
'im gonna keep this bike and do that style of riding (clockwork) 😂😂😂 mate you will never go back when you have an eBike 😂 it's just more smiles per mile
Ahhhh. The politicians answer for which was your favourite. Honestly you'd have been better off not choosing the question as 1 of those you'd answer as, even if it's true and I've no real reason to think otherwise, it came across as disingenuous and untrue. Even though I tend to think what you said is basically true, as in I believe you do enjoy riding all different types of EMtBs, at the level of bike you're getting to ride anyway, and adapting to them and exploring their differences. However I don't totally believe that out of all of them there's not 1 or 2 that you enjoyed over the rest, no matter how much we enjoy different things for different reasons and finding out what one can do better than another etc it's also very natural to pick out a favourite or to think that overall this 1 or those 2 are slightly better and fit you and your riding better than the others or give you a better ride or just look better. Nice try and as I said a very neat and tidy political reply that managed to be honest, not offend any of the companies who's bikes you rode but also avoided actually answering the questions asked.
Did your bike make it into the bike vault this week?
Last week
No, but it made it to the lbs.

Same for me 😀
A video for short people would be equally as helpful. Currently trying to dig around for a emtb for my wife, she's 5 foot 1.

it's not all about reach, stack height is relevant as well.

Indeed, and if you slap on a high rise bar and stem you effectively decrease reach

6’8” - GeoMetron G1

do you mean XXL? I think XL reach is only 495

No mention of the S6 Turbo Levo for Mike?
Great video! Best to compare your bike to sizes in what you are looking for.
None of the EMTB are available for purchase anyway sadly so i cant do much with the information
More epic bike trips pleaseeeeee
Finaly video for me

Weight will going up at the square or greater of the linear dimension
Did you forget to mention stack? It is almost as important as reach...
Have a cube reaction hybrid in XL and I m 6.3
Before had a Bixs in L
How many times have I heard that comment. I'm going to keep me old bike to ride as well..😂😂 ta leave in the corner of the garage more like😜
