the US in the 90s was such a conservative and prude place, no one, except maybe a few in NYC and LA, had the least bit of interest in Almodovar's films. I remember watching his films in high school and undergrad in the 90s (Detroit, Ann Arbor, MI) and not a single soul knew who he was. I think Blockbuster video didn't even carry any of his films in their tiny "FOREIGN" section.

I love the fact that the way Conan is conducting the interview is the exact opposite message of Almodovar's movies. I love Conan but it is pretty ironic.
Conans interview style falls flat in 2022. Almodovar is an amazing filmmaker and his films are pure works of art. There are so many more interesting questions to ask!!
as a hispanic i thought that they were at least getting the gist of it and it didn't make much of a difference. though my family is from Latin America and spain spanish is pretty difficult for me to understand
i get what he's saying about the big hips and breasts as a sign of vitality and optimism. i think he means it in an earthy, fertility, maternal way. But americans being americans and conan being male, they just equate tits with porn.
