Wait...people are complaining about the drinking? Do they NOT get the point of the show? It's 'we're hanging out, having a beer and talking about video games'...that's been the shows gimmick pretty much since it started. People man...I have no idea how so many of them survive an average life without walking off a cliff.
The UA-cam comment system is populated almost entirely by bottom-of-the-cliff dwellers. Eeeggghhh you drink too much ... this footage is faked ... homebrew is killing games ... egghhh
Avgn drank a beer in almost every episode and no one complained about that lol, and maybe I'm an alcoholic but drinking a beer in ten minutes (edited or not) isn't that wild, those comments must not get out much lol
He did a whole bottle of whiskey in one episode. Think it was the jeckyl and Hyde revisited. Passes out and wakes up to this giant revaluation that the game is a metaphor for life itself. It's my favorite episode. Barely edging out Sword quest (see what I did there)
There was context to that though. He drank in order to get himself through playing those shitty games. Not to show that he was an adult in his middle aged life. It's awkward to look at.
Awesome video, (lush). I had a 3DO in 95, and after picking up the Playstation and Saturn I just didn't see a need for it anymore. I gave it to a friend who was becoming a game collector. Way before it was cool. He just passed away and his widow returned the 3DO to me and some other games we shared. It was archaic then, but we loved Twisted, Road Rash and some others. This was our first real taste at next gen systems before my PSX arrived...which changed the game considerably. I'm happy to have the FZ-1 again but it was a steep price... Subbed.
bro ive been subbed for years it must be the new subs that are leaving the weird comments lol. love the chan still man keep up the great work and its so sad you had to explain the editing lol. give the baby a boop on the nose for me bro.
People complain you drink alcohol while reviewing games? Just drop the reviewing part and run a channel where you just sit in front of the camera and drink.
I remember walking into Software Etc. with my pop and asking him to buy me a 3DO on a whim. To my surprise he actually agreed to it. Then when we get to the counter and he fiound out how much it was he looked at me and said "You know we could buy a brand new couch for this amount of money" I don't remember the retail price but I want to say it was 600-700 US, and back in the 90s that was a lot. That's still a lot for a console. Anyway to this day I don't know what made him agree to buy it for me, but lucky for me he did. He's not the kind of guy to say yes to anything, ever, so after that I honestly never asked him for anything else ever again. I was a very happy kid though.
Just a note: People (probably) complain about the beer mostly while they're dealing with things life dev hardware, blue disks, prototypes, etc. Rare, expensive stuff that should be treated with extreme care and caution. People are usually just afraid that something's gonna get damaged because of, maybe someone will spill their drink, or even drink a bit too much or something like that. It's mostly paranoia, I think. I don't really care, especially since it's clear that they put a lot of care into all of their stuff.
The fact that you have a different beer in your hand at the beginning of every video makes me like your channel 1000x more, Cheers Also, I love guessing if you're going to have a stout, lager, ale etc before clicking
What I love is the non snobbish, dude like, non posing atmosphere and the little comedy. I love H4G since the gametrailers times, when three of you were laughing on the sofa. Bring that back. Very nice video. Im a fan of 3DO too, and have some M2 videos up.
I own three 3DO units: an FZ-1, FZ-10 and a Goldstar CIB. Fortunately I purchased mine almost 20 yrs ago when people were selling them with bundles of games for $50 or less, now the prices have gone back up. When friends come over to my place and they see my 3DO I usually get asked what it was, so I give them the quick run down of the history and then pop in Space Pirates. The look on their faces never gets old. Lately I have been emulating 3DO on my PC via RetroArch and having some decent success.
Been a sub for 2 years now, anyone complaining about change hasn't been around enough to know what you guys are about. I will keep watching till you stop creating content, you guys go to great detail and should have more subs for all your work👍🏻
I think the people complaining about you drinking "all the beer in only 10 minutes!" are the same sort of people who complain about someone "wearing the same outfit in 7 videos, OMG do you wear the same grotty clothes everyday" not realizing that it means the videos were all shot together in the same recording session.
The iscan pro is an awesome little unit! The retrotink makes it obsolete but it's still an amazing value if found for under $100. I used to run a Genesis via HD Retrovision cables through it before getting the OSSC; it looked great!
i remember 3DO being the most expensive system I'd scene at a store. I was amazed by how expensive it was. It also was the only console I new of that had Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo... of corse the controller didn't have enough buttons.
I just discovered your channel. The Panasonic 3DO was my favorite console prior to the Dreamcast. It was the first system to perfectly capture Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. Whenever I had gaming parties during the mid-90s, Way of the Warrior was always on the list to play. I look forward to enjoying more of your content, thanks!
Talking of batteries, my launch Panasonic FZ1 still has saves from over 20 years ago on it. The thing is built like a tank, When it became obsolete gamewise I used it for over a decade as a cd player hooked up to an av system (the music visualizer never gets old), it never missed a beat in all that time. Best versions of road rash and starblade on it as well.
Analog video is the bane of retro gaming. It's driven me to the point of studying NTSC video documentation and analog switch matrix IC data sheets just to come up with a component switching solution that doesn't take four separate boxes and ruin the quality along the way. I'll be digging into analog mixing of RGBYUV later this weekend. And then onto sync stripping and combining. This is my life now! Thanks 90s consoles. ;-)
ALT CONTROL DELETE and need for speed, po'ed, monster manor, D, SLAYER, Deathkeep, doctor hauzer, alone in the dark 1 and 2, out of this world, flying nightmares, jammit, bladeforce, battlesport, return fire, foes of Ali, space hulk, shockwave... I mean I can keep going.
Kudos to anyone in the 3DO universe. I used to have that same console. At the time I didn't know what that a b switch was exactly. I had a huge floor sitting console type 25 inch TV that did have S Video inputs and it looked great without any help. I can remember being just out of the military cause I used to make road trips all over the east coast just to hunt down games that I did not have yet. My final count was 208 out of 214 released or what I thought was the max released games for it. Fav games, Starfighter with the flight stick. The very first Need For Speed, Star Control II,, Killing Time. And you know I had the 3DO Game Shark CD of course. Biggest regret was selling the whole thing for $300 bucks. But I still have that TV and it works still. I also have a Sharp 32inch CRT with S Video that's perfect and the reason I'm holding on to them is new TV's with the higher resolutions just do not do old school video gaming you know!
Crazy setup. Years before Gameboy I kinda invented one. NES powered by cigarette adapter cord RF out, to a barrel coax to two screw antenna to another adapter that plugged into a 3.5mm Jack on a TV that was battery powered in my Dad's car on road trips.
Yo people need chill about Tony and the gang enjoying a cold one. One they are grown ass men and have the right to drink if the so chose to. Two if you are watching hard 4 games you outta known that they are best buds who enjoy good suds. Been watching for like 7 years and gonna keep watching. Keep it up guys.
just picked up a 3DO for free from someone on a facebook yardsale group! the guy was the original owner of the console(also having the original box too) and we just sat and talked about old games before i took off. All around best day ever! still had the circuit city price tag on it... 500 dollars! O_O
I used to make my dad rent me the 3DO from Blockbuster. It was like $100 to rent for 7 days and then a $350 deposit on top of that. And then you also had to pay for the game rentals. It really wasn't that terrible. It was pretty sweet for the time!
I love how the comments have forced you to be ultra specific, thereby revealing your nerdiness. Anyway, I thought by setup you meant what it's hooked up to, what's surrounding it, peripherals etc. Personally, I built an addition to my house which basically serves as a giant shrine to the 3DO. I don't play it (I am not worthy) but I do pray to it every day facing mecca.
Good video. I like you guys' content, I know I don't comment often but I do try to catch one of your video every now and then. You've got really likeable personalities and have pretty good knowledge of old consoles' video output and scalers and stuff. In this case, I think there's a solution that would have given you an even sharper picture : and that's by going with a quality s-video to rgb transcoder(no scaling) into the OSSC. Just let the OSSC do all the scaling, it's the sharpest machine out there to do this job
back around 2008 i had a cable box, wii and 360 all with component cables. an hdtv and an svga projector. i used two cheap composite switches from ebay to connect everything haha.
There were many games that put out 480i, Mega Drive games did that on a few games. The 3DO was fine in 480i on a CRT, it wasn't an issue. You can add that switch to any non-ANVIL 3DO console really easily. The issue is a lot of games won't work correctly when you run it in 240p, the Game Gun won't be as accurate because the ganes were set up to function with the 480i.
This makes so much sense now as to why I couldn't record my SNES in 240p with my Elgato... (I have one of those SNES component Retrovision cables) I can kind of relate to your crazy setup. Having to use a HDMI splitter to record a PS3 is a nightmare of cords.
It is just a shame it didn't have more/better games. I'd be interested to see what the system was really capable of. Could it have pulled off a game like Gran Turismo on the PS1 halfway decently? It could have had some pretty good games with the power it had at the time.
The part I wish never happened was actually how it was developed and marketed. Like, how the manufacturers needed to charge massive amounts for the hardware to make a return because of how it was all licensed.
If you've never tried the game MAZER, you should. Crazy cool game. I discovered it transferring the backup to put on my USB loader Sanyo 3do and instantly went to eBay and bought the real copy after playing the first level
I've seen people in the comments criticize the way you guys handle alchohol from videos like 2-3 years old... And honestly I've never understood it. Drinking is just part of the "game" for some people Cough SNESDrunk*
Just shake it off (Taylor reference... Ugh). Your videos are great and your channel is among my favourite ones on all of UA-cam to report on the world of Retrogaming. Keep going, my man 👍
The RetroTink line doubles and sync generates the 480i s-video giving what I would call a 480p image with no lag whatsoever. It's totally cleaned up my 3DO, no 240p required
I have a Sony Trinitron. I think its 37". It has S-Video and Component as well as composite. I've never seen the PS1 or PS2 look cleaner visually. PS1 via Svideo and PS2 via component.
I don't know that I would call my setup crazy, but I do have a 1080p 47in Samsung HDTV sitting next to a 27in Panasonic CRT from the early 00's that has S-Video, Composite, and component inputs with stereo outputs, and both are hooked into my 5.1 surround sound setup, and use the CRT with a 3 port component switch box for my older consoles. Edit: far as the drinking I have no issues to speak of, as I drink a beer, and game from time to time when trying to relax.
Do field separation with tools such as avidemux, virtualdub, avisynth... IF it's just grabbing the 240p (LD) lines and interlacing them into 480i (SD), then it's not too complicated to reverse the process. At least for capture, since you can go through the extra step. For real time play you'll have to look into what your hardware can do. In theory, it should not be complex to implement, but I have no idea if there's any upscalers or modern capture devices that do it. A problem with this LD over SD transmission is that, capture hardware will usually consider 2 fields to be one frame, instead of each field being a frame itself. Due to this, if for some reason your capture process drops frames, you don't just loose one field, but two, and the previous frame is doubled to make up for it. In this situation, doing a reversal of the process causes back and forth motion stutter, for reasons you can easily visualize if you understand what I'm talking about at all.
I had the right VP on both my FZ-1 and FZ-10 and was able to do the 240p mod on both. A major positive to that is to that is you can put the switch in a much easier to get position than what you get with the overpriced and rare (and sometimes not accurately advertised) Japanese models with 240p built-in. It's also a cheap/easy mod that almost anybody who has picked up an iron before can do or anybody with experience can do in a very short amount of time (it took about 30 minutes for both of mine and it could be done faster now that I know where to mount the switch on both). A negative is that you can only get a major difference in quality if you're using an CRT. Flipping the switch from 480i to 240p while looking at an CRT is shocking in how much better it looks at 240p. All the jitter and wobble from the interlaced image is gone. However, when it comes to LCD's that have processing and capture cards that also have processing to remove jitter from interlaced images, it's barely an improvement for capture/upscaling.
Now I just want a Ninkasi beer! I recently picked up a Goldstar 3DO and got a system disc that allows data management but I don't yet have the memory accessory hardware. I'll probably get the VCD add-on before I get memory accessory. Do you happen to have the VCD add-on? They were specific to each model.
I remember when the 3DO came out, friend of mine was wanting to try to brag about how "wealthy" his family was by saying "I'm getting a 3DO for Christmas..but you're more than welcome to come play games on it...I mean, it's going to be so much better than your Super Nintendo"..Well, Christmas came, he got his 3DO and...he was very disappointed. I went to go play it and of course, very disappointed. He ended up returning it and got a Super Nintendo & Sega Genesis. That's not saying EVERYTHING on 3D0 was bad, there are some awesome games on it....Samurai Shodown & Road Rash are two stand out games IMO...
I love the fz-1 3do. It's a must to have the japanese version which has a 240p switch that also improves performance of games!! Games run at higher frame rate in 240p! 240p is also best for my pvm.
I use an old Sony DVD Recorder that converts S-Video , composite and Scart to HDMI, also a big CRT HD Sony TV that offers me really good compatibility with the DVD recorder. SO basicly I connect my 240p 3DO and other S-Video consoles (like N64) to an S-Video Switcher (with remote) connected to an S-Video Splitter , in order to sent the image to 6 different screens and devices as upscalers, My ELGATO Game Capture device or my ols Sony DVD recorder. This one upscales all my S-Video and Scart signals to up 1080i a pretty nice way to decrease to the minimum the input lag and watch in the best quality at my old Sony CRT HD TV... To be honest my setup is much more complex than this, cause it includes Different kind of cables and consoles, like COMPONENT consoles, COMPOSITE consoles, Switchers and Splitters by each kind of signal, differents upscallers for all thos kind of cables,a big Proyector, a Home Theater and the sound converted to Digital, WIth very long cables to connect all this to the different 3 zones at my game room, that goes all the way to the floor in big metallic cable conduits ... and btw also Controller extensions trough the same metallic cable conduits to reach the 2 drawwers were I save my console controllers for playr 1 and 2.
I personally just got myself one of these 3DOs that can do 240p. I personally would check the power supply capacitors as my unit was leaking, and these are very close to the power switch so it could damage it.
That looks pretty good! And I never knew about the memory unit. On my setup I just use the s-video with a SCART adapter. It runs ok into a cheap upscaler, but the OSSC doesnt sync so it displays without color. Still end up with a somewhat blurry upscaled 480i image. I saw videogameperfection.com is now offering 240p mods for the 3DO and RGB outputs, kind of debating trying to mod mine. What a hassle, but I love the 3DO! lol
I use a DVDO product as well- the VP20. Have a VP30 as well with the add on board, but it's a bit flakey. Running a DC, s-video modded genesis/sega CD, component modded SNES, and a N64 through it. Need to get a USB to serial adapter so I can update the firmware on it!
I ran across this iscan unit online when going down this rabbit hole over a year ago. Cool to see it in action. Did you try going directly into a VGA monitor? Assuming you're inputting into ossc via VGA correct? Awesome setup man.
Bro this man is an adult, hes more than allowed to drink. Also there is nothing wrong with it. TV programs occasional have alcohol commercials. You see it in public all the time so chill.
I love my 3DO F-10 ,only way i play it is on my Panasonic 32 in CRT with the S-video... Looks way better than on a current t.v...after all system was made for the crt tvs.
Love the iscan pro, it works great for my setup for the game cube and n64 through s video. I use the vga out from the iscan to a scan line generator, then out to my hdtv. The scan lines are not necessarily needed for the GameCube, but makes a world of difference for the picture quality of the n64. The scan lines help mask the inherent blurriness of that system. I’d recommend checking out the website “hazard-city.de”, if you’re interested in getting a cleaner image from your classic console to your hdtv. They have reviews for just about any scaler or line doubler there is out there.
But where is your M2 add-on? Oh yeah, they never released it. I do remember at least 1 game store employee hyping the add-on though back when the FZ-1 was selling for $399.
I was at a friend's warehouse and found 3 3dos, no controllers. They seem good condition exterior. Each one has a sticker Orange that says new brushless motor. I connected to tv and and 3do menu comes up with logo and stays there. Each one does that. I get no asteroid or please insert disk menu? Any help would be appreciated.

There's something very... hm, interesting about the 3DO. Part of me wishes it was more successful, and another part of me wishes it never happened.
Wing Commander 3 and Road Rash were my two faves on 3DO
If you've never tried the game MAZER, you should. Crazy cool game. I discovered it transferring the backup to put on my USB loader Sanyo 3do and instantly went to eBay and bought the real copy after playing the first level
Life is precious, I will never get those 12 minutes back
I've seen people in the comments criticize the way you guys handle alchohol from videos like 2-3 years old... And honestly I've never understood it. Drinking is just part of the "game" for some people Cough SNESDrunk*
Nice episode! Btw did you guys ever fake the beer drinking? I always wondered.
youre great. fuck the weird comments. If some one cant understand how filming a youtube video works, that on them. Keep up the awesome stuff!
This is awesome, always look forward to these videos!
Great video, I love the 3do. That being said I think you have a drinking problem. Lol
Loved gex. Always wanted that beavis and butthead arcade game to come home
So long as the beer isnt flat or hot...i wont complain ;-)
Been a subscriber since like the 700 range. Subscribed because you guys did drink in your videos. So, prost!
Tell us about when you worked at 3DO. Why did you not release Grunk's Adventure: Rise of the Bog?
John worked there from 91--04. Was fired 5 times, rehired when grew a mullet.
Honestly, I'm just disappointed you only had a single beer all video. Those are rookie numbers!
Just shake it off (Taylor reference... Ugh).
Your videos are great and your channel is among my favourite ones on all of UA-cam to report on the world of Retrogaming. Keep going, my man 👍
Been watching you for a long time. dont let dumb comments get in the way lol. keep up the videos!
The RetroTink line doubles and sync generates the 480i s-video giving what I would call a 480p image with no lag whatsoever. It's totally cleaned up my 3DO, no 240p required
Which model are you using? 2xPro?
@@starcrusader5685 yep
Ah memories of daisy chained controller FIFA madness!
I have a Sony Trinitron. I think its 37". It has S-Video and Component as well as composite.
I've never seen the PS1 or PS2 look cleaner visually. PS1 via Svideo and PS2 via component.
Beer and gaming belong together.
The UA-cam comments are always strange, let's be real lmao. Great video as always!
I love the 3DO! Road Rash!
Hard4Episodes like this.
If you don't have the game Twisted for 3DO you must get it! It's fun as hell
hey i love this channel keep it up guys
Demolition man had the file manager software built in it aswell
You deserve more subs
On our podcast about Japan and gaming, we intro.. then open a beer. Its a must do!
So you enjoy that adult beverage!
If you're just capturing the video anyway, you can just break the 480i frame in to its two fields to make it 240p.
What a hassle, but I love the 3DO! lol
Love the channel guys. I really like that its for adults and not for children. I would love to know more about the types of beer and booze you drink.
Go for a RetroTink 2X which is impeccable and the creator is a great guy too!
have you had the chance to check out the retro tink yet, that seems to be the answer
Definitely replace the SRAM with an FRAM. No batteries required!
Have another beer on me on your next video lol
Bro this man is an adult, hes more than allowed to drink. Also there is nothing wrong with it. TV programs occasional have alcohol commercials. You see it in public all the time so chill.
Lol getting ads for beer brands before your videos.
I love my 3DO F-10 ,only way i play it is on my Panasonic 32 in CRT with the S-video... Looks way better than on a current t.v...after all system was made for the crt tvs.
Obama used to 3DO to chat with the FBI. Peter Strzok went as StrokmeOff64
Thanks for covering the 240p differences. Are going to try to get the vcd attachment for 3do?
3do is such a strange console , only ever stuff ive found local in the wild was 5 sealed games for 10 bucks each , still havent found a system 😅
I've seen a system. They were asking 200. Not worth it since it would just be a novelty that sits around
Great Video
I was at a friend's warehouse and found 3 3dos, no controllers. They seem good condition exterior. Each one has a sticker Orange that says new brushless motor. I connected to tv and and 3do menu comes up with logo and stays there. Each one does that. I get no asteroid or please insert disk menu? Any help would be appreciated.
I’m so hard for this episode.
Im not letting u borrow anymore lube. U stained myy couch and my cats hair is discolored

People that complain about beer, when watching an video telling about 3D0..... Maybe the beer is the only thing they understand and will never admit that their OWN stupidity pisses them off.... :P
I am buying the 3do usb ode soon and was thinking about getting a black usb hdd and making it look like the memory unit.
I have the fz1 usb host now. I still want a hdd enclosure that looks like the memory unit, printed or otherwise.
I can't believe anyone would complain about a grown adult having a drink 🙄
Havent seen the guys round your place drinking beer and reviewing games! I miss that. I'm guessing the wife doesn't allow it anymore
Perhaps UA-cam isn't sending notifications? I occasionally do solo episodes, but most of our content is as you described. Visit our channel page.
Correction .... It diarrhea sprays 480i
