      Yea, i didn't know I cussed that much in real life. Actually, I don't think I do. It's just what I am thinking when I am fishing. Especially when alone, no need to hold back. Fishing is pretty much cut and dry so...

      Yea, not anywhere like it in the States. A little bit of American Caribbean. Fishing is probably not as good now, but if you put in the effort, you can still pull a couple of good ones.

    This freshwater landlubber finally got to try some saltwater fishing this weekend down at Port St Joe. Found out I got a ton to learn. :) Was fun and the scenery from a kayak was amazing. Can't wait for a return grudge match. :)

      Salt water fish definitely fight harder than their freshwater counterparts. So many more varieties of fish and techniques required to catch them in salt. I love the fact that you never know what you are going to catch as there are no fences in the ocean.

    28:33 Have you ever been bringing a fish in on the side of your Kayak and had a Shark come up outta nowhere and take it?

    • @KeyWestKayakFishing
      @KeyWestKayakFishing  8 років тому +10

      If you ever watch me fishing the blue water, I always stop reeling them in about 40-50 feet below the surface and watch to see what is around, and also to allow them to purge their air bladders. The ones that will get them right at the side of the boat are the big Barracudas. Those will take them right out of your hand. That is why I always tell people to not dangle their feet overboard.

      @KeyWestKayakFishing  8 років тому

      Ah, the Bonito or False Albacore. We just call it bait as the Blackfin Tuna are fairly common. I did some time in Honolulu but didn't have my yak back then.

    @Florida Keys Kayak Fishing Hi Steve, regular follower here. I would be interested in a close up of the weed line. Looking to see how much plastic is mixed in. I do see quite a bit just from the limited shots you have here. Think I'm making a point of picking up as much as possible when I'm out. Doing the same thing around shore... I' m sure you do the same thing. All of us fishermen need to pitch in and do as much as possible. Only costs a little time. Thank you Sir. and thanks for the Vids. This would be a good vid to compare to what you see today. You do have some footage here. A new vid showing weed lines and plastics, would make a great vid topic "Plastic then Plastic Now" Would get a good push by UA-cam. Thanks.

      Thanks Stang. Glad you liked them. Evan is right. I equate them to dogs. Majority are good, but you have to be careful because under some rare circumstances, they can turn on you. Most of the time though it will be because of something you did. ie. Try to take an unknown dog's food.

      Key West Kayak Fishing I know but I was just wondering why it looked like you pushed it into the water, I was just wondering why you didn't just let it go like put it back in by dropping it in or something, maybe that is just a saltwater thing.

      HAMorigins gives the fish a rush of air to get their oxygen levels back to normal faster.

      @haydenm.9822 8 років тому +1

      Tyler Labbe Oh ok, thank you. I'm a bass fisherman so for us we just slowly rock the fish back and forth to get them back to normal. I'm guessing you do that so you don't get a shark at cuda.

    • @KeyWestKayakFishing
      @KeyWestKayakFishing  8 років тому +1

      The edge of the reef is at about 6 miles from shore. That is 70 ft. Where the wrecks I fish are at it's around 300-400 ft. That is 10 -12 miles.

    • @JavierTeran81

    • @KeyWestKayakFishing
      @KeyWestKayakFishing  8 років тому

      Yes, plus the Hobie Adventure Island is able to rigged from just kayak to full sailing kayak. My other kayak, the Wilderness Systems 140 is a basic paddle kayak. I like to use that for stripped down fun fishing. Having a beater kayak that is easy to maneuver around will get you on the water more often.

    • @KeyWestKayakFishing
      @KeyWestKayakFishing  8 років тому

      For the Pelagics like the Tunas and Bonitos especially, a quick rush of water through their gills is much better than trying to hand revive them. They need that jolt of oxygen to get moving and get their oxygen levels back up quickly. If you did the usual hold under water and wiggle their body, they would die.

      Big fan. We've met. I'm a recreational guide and doing very well but need more fishing experience. We should go out together sometime. What's your fee / arrangement? My goal is to bring a couple / family out and have better odds at bending the rod and bring in something more than 10" and 12" snappers. Ideally, AJ, mutton, grouper. But, snapper is ok too if it gives them a thrill and - dinner. I have lots of numbers, boats, gear, etc. Let me know.

      More jellyfish, more turtles. Stuff balances out.

    • @firewind921
      @firewind921 7 років тому

      Well there are lots of fishermen who have lost their jobs in china and japan due to the mass amounts of Nomura which the reason for all the jelly fish is because the climate is getting warmer which makes it easier for the jelly's to breed. That's the only reason I think that the seas will be over run with jelly fish.

    Nice video footage.. could edit it dwn a little and move your voice / info clips to the underwater shots, instead of showing it twice. Also being a very experienced fishermen.. Most of it in FLORIDA off shore waters, including an avid diver. I never drop my trim clippings in the water like you did when trimming that fly. Also, thrashing the water while watching the shark, can cost you fingers or a ✋ from another shark or cuda from behind / under the kayak.... Use anything, but your hand . With that said, keep the great footage coming.

      The Indian Fill Key bridge. That is what I fished a lot. Either vertical jigging small jigs or live Pinfish along the bridge pilings. Some big boy Grouper in there that destroyed my gear. Also, year round Tarpon. You can see them on calm days in the evening rolling. Not a lot of boat traffic so it is not so stressful like Bahia Honda or 7-mile bridge.

      Pretty cool too. I see stuff from all around the world washing up. My best was the cuban sign that basically said don't litter.

      False Albacore/Bonito are the same thing to me...Excellent bait. We have the Blackfins so kind of spoiled. Back in California, the Albacore are the eaters.

    It seems as if you've been doing this too long.....the lack of excitement with a fish on is really lacking for a fisherman that loves to fish so much...just sayin....love the content though

    You would be much more successful if you trolled actual trolling lures instead of lip divers

    I came across your channel recently and I'm glad I did, but one little tip that might help you grow is talking a little less. I love your content, but there is a bit too much talking.

      I'm not really into the watching people reel in a fish with a background of some crappy music. Gets pretty monotonous. People always say you should make videos of what you like. My channel has really taken off since I converted so I'll probably stick with it. That way people will know what to expect. Fishing in the Keys is not like the tv shows. It is actually very difficult because it is so different. A lot of my videos are to help those that are coming down here to fish. Hope you understand. Tight lines.
