What a wonderful tour, Jay - your garden is a dream. I imagine every gardener smiling as they saw your carts loaded with plants - we are all plant mad! I've pruned my Bloodgood maple quite vigorously and it always rebounds; it might be worth cutting out the dead parts and see if the remaining stems grow well. As far as Heuchera, I've grown 'Palace Purple' from seed for years and it is persistent in the rocky areas of my garden. Most of the newer hybrids fade away like yours have done - I grow them more successfully in large pots for the drainage and then overwinter them in the cold frame. The best Heuchera that I've grown are the H. villosa - they are native to the northeast - 'Autumn Bride' is spectacular for me and is winter persistent, doesn't mind my clay soil. This year I'm trying Heuchera x villosa 'Carnival Watermelon' and Heuchera villosa f. purpurea 'Bronze Wave' with the hopes that the villosa heritage will keep them perennialized. Enjoy your early morning walks through your garden - it is so lovely ❤
Hi, your garden is spectacular. I would love to know your favorite nurseries. The secret of Coral bells is finding a location they like. Mine have lasted for years at the east side of the house. I would like to see more native gardens
I just found your channel recently and am now all caught up! I’m in Missouri so similar zone. I love the Japanese maple and the one that has not done so well in the winter is still reaching out for the sun. I would gently prune it, leave it there, see what beauty it will present.
I live in zone 5 and I have had coral bells that have survived years and years planted in well drained soil in partial shade. However, some of the new varieties have not reliably returned. I very much enjoyed seeing your garden, Thank you so much for sharing.
Regarding your damaged Japanese maple: I would prune out the dead branches and give it a chance to recover. Some of the best plants I have were rescues or damaged plants that have come back gangbusters when given a chance. 😊
Greetings from Ireland, Beautiful garden, and beautiful containers, Its the bees knees. We have a small front garden with four flower beds and fifty eight pots. My wife has no interest in gardening and tells me the front garden looks like a mini garden centre. We have a glasshouse, a no dig veg bed, a lawn, seventeen water barrels, and a three bay compost system in the back garden. I plan to put in no dig flower beds in the back garden next autumn. There are loads of mature perennials in the front garden between the flower beds and pots that can be divided and I have loads of homemade compost that will do the job.
I recently found your videos and ended up watching all of them. I noticed how they made me feel as if I was there by myself and nature. If you take notice you can see how proud these gardeners are and should be. It takes a lot of hard work greatly provided by the owners. Some may pass beauty by and some such as myself wish to linger in the ever changing beauty right before our eyes. It also presents a view into how each of us sees beauty. Jay, your garden is beautiful! When if the next video, I'm hooked!!
Oh Nancy, your message means a lot to me, and it is viewer like you who give me the strength to keep doing these video projects, and I know gardeners appreciate viewers like you too. Thank you.
My suggestion would be to trim the dead parts of the Japanese maple given that half survived. Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden with us and those of other gardeners. Watching from San Antonio, TX ---now Zone 9A---caliente, meaning hot zone!
Lovely, Jay. I stroll around my border gardens throughout the day also, just enjoying the changes. I wonder what animals you are protecting your tree trunks from?
❤❤❤ so excited to see a new video from you. Your garden is amazing Thanks for so many ideas and inspiration. I would just prune back that Japanese Maple and see how it does next year. I like that new Dogwood hybrid, definitely need to find one for my garden.
Just spectacular JAY! I am in zone nine planted allium bulbs that I bought from big box store. Not a single one bloomed. I appreciate the beauty of yours.
I get up early and walk about in my garden too. This tour of yours is so peaceful, beautiful and calming. Just what I need for my mental health. Thank you Jay
Your garden is beautiful! Your voice is so soothing as you lead the tour in your garden as well as other gardens tours of other gardeners. Thanks for sharing!
Such a pleasure to see your garden! So beautiful ! Btw... I grow the Duranta gold mound shrub in zone 9b with no problem, even though it states the maximum zone as 8. It will sometimes die back to the ground in winter, but returns in healthy form in early spring.
This is just a lovely video! I love the soothing greens without being too colorful I do appreciate that, also.! I love all types of gardens. The garden is the personality of the gardener.! Yours is Just Lovely, and ever so beautiful! Just like YOU! Thank you so very much! I love them all! It makes my heart happy!
So good to see your garden in a different season, Jay. I do a morning walk too. The best part of the day. I love your “unwanted hosta” garden. Please show us the coneflower patch when in bloom. This is my second year with Cheyenne Spirit coneflower. Hope they seed like yours. The Japanese maple is just too pretty to remove. I’d enjoy it for as long as I could. Thanks for another lovely tour.
Thanks Peggy. I planted a few varieties of coneflowers along Cheyenne Spirit, the self-seeded new coneflowers are all with slightly different colors and forms!
Wow Jay! So extensive and many many hours of labor to keep it looking so beautiful. We understand you need to tend to your own garden so the occasional video is okay. Just please don't Stop!
All the beautiful things you point out in garden tours are being fostered in your own garden! I don’t have any luck with heuchera either, but I got a heucherella to try and it’s doing alright. 🌿💚🌱
Wonderful tour! Your garden is magical! 🌸🌸🌸 thank you for having us over and explaining your experiences and plant choices! Redbud trees grow very well down here in Maryland. All of my Redbuds are transplants or volunteers.🌿
Beautiful garden tour. My huchera that I have in areas that are more protected do better. They have a very shallow root system. I have found that if you leave all of the fallen leaves from fall on the ground to protect them, they do much better.
I’d prune the dead part out of the Japanese maple and possibly relocate it somewhere else more sheltered from harsh wind maybe put in a huge pot where you could move around and protect it better
Oh so sublime. And what a noble Garden Whisperer you are. TY for taking the time and all the effort to show us your treasure and masterpiece. i commend all your hard work and even to showcase each of the botanical delights. I love how you have paired the Mandevilla with the Alyssum. I have many Alyssum starts and wondered what and where to display their delicate beauty. I'm convinced now to use a container residence as you display. Be blessed!
Thanks for sharing your garden, it's wonderful! I would trim back the Japanese maple and see how it does. I hate admitting defeat! I live in northern Lower peninsula of Michigan. I also have trouble with coral bells. All shrink down, but I love them. I need to try fertilizer and mulching to see if I get better results.
So happy for a video from you! My Purple Palace Coral Bells must be happy- planted 6 years ago on the north side of the house. I don't do anything with them except water during a drought. I did have one that developed one of those big woody stems as they do sometimes but otherwise they are a stable size every year.
On the coral bells I grow them at home as well as at the local botanical gardens, I suggest the native heuchera Hairy Alumroot particularly the maple leaf hairy alumroot it has beautiful leaves and actually reseeds itself ( I am in southwest Missouri zone 6b )
Very beautiful garden. Thanks for showing us all those lovely flowers and plants. I’m also having lots of difficulties growing heucheras in the ground, but they are doing fine in the containers….Have you ever tried to grow them in pots ?
I have problems growing Heuchera, at least the newer varieties. I bought two of the old fashioned green Heuchera plants after talking to my hair stylist. She said hummingbird love the flowers and they are very hardy in our zone 7a garden. Many Heuchera plants have died in my garden so like you I stopped buying them. Time will tell how they grow in my garden. Your garden is beautiful all times of the year. Did you ever count how many potted plants you grow through summer? I have about 50 or so and want to reduce that number because it is time consuming with watering and taking care of them. You are a very special gardener/videographer who takes excellent care of your garden and seems to really enjoy new-to-you gardens and respecta all types of gardeners. Thanks for sharing.
I lost heucheras planted in ground as well. However, I have had success with heuchera in pots on my deck (faces west, zone 5). I now enjoy heuchera leaves and flowers up close; beautiful color show all season long. Heuchera pots overwinter in unheated garage, water every 2 weeks in winter for some moisture. Groomed plants in April and heuchera are flowering now.
I gave up counting containers and pots long time ago....your are right, the containers are high maintenance, I found that some plants do well in containers but are not very demanding on watering, so I tend to stick to those.
Hi Jay! I love to watch garden tours❤ just found you recently and love your channel’s concept. I live in SC and moved here from Ky. Gosh, how I miss the “green” of more northern states. The green here in SC (pine trees) is just not the same. I love Japanese Maples (love all of yours) the thing I love the most is your GRASS! Bet no one has said this to you before😂. That green grass is to die for! The green grass here is very hard to achieve . Have a great summer..(KH)
I love seeing videos of your garden. Please keep them coming! I've heard from several sources now that the best heucheras are villosa hybrids. I'm trying one of those hybrids in my garden this year. I am also trying out heucherella.
The Japanese maple with die back is frustrating. It may be saved, but years of growth may be sacrificed, depending on the remaining structure, and how much may need to be pruned to make the remaining tree presentable. I’m thinking of the bonsai world where a several foot tree can be cut back to less than a foot. The roots will be mature, so regrowth may be quicker.
Thank you for your videos, specially Buffalo gardens. So many gorgeous gardens in that city. I am gardening in Cleveland Ohio, zone 6. I really appreciate the videos with plants combination, garden decorations. What other deer resistant plants are you using in your driveway strip?deer are such a pain in my area.
Jay your gardens are magnificent, so much color, texture , & beauty. Thank you for the wonderful tour. Truly an expression of love
Thank you for your 'expression of love'.
I really appreciate how you included the name and zone on the screen while you talk about the plant. Thank you for that extra work.
Glad it was helpful!
You are an artist and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to enjoy your beautiful garden!
Thank you! Cheers!
Jay, I just love the way you talk. It's so therapeutic. Love from the Netherlands
Thank you! Many people I met told me I have a bit of German accent, which I am very proud of(even though I have never been to Germany)!
Spectacular garden! Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden!
❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden! Inspired! Also loved the humorous squirrel sign
But I have to say I have many rather than 'a' highly trained squirrel!
@@WhispersInTheGarden Too funny!!!!
I’m so in amazement just how beautiful your garden is. Thank you so much for sharing it.
We cut our dead wood off of our Japanese maple when it did the same thing. Over time it created a really graceful interesting look.
I will do this, and thank you for the feedback!
Thank u Jay for the videos!

Thanks for the feedback! Some of my best plants are found by chance, a division from a fellow gardener, or even from clearance rack.
We had deer eat 1/3 of our maple in front garden - just trimmed the dead wood and it looks good now. It took a season to grow around it but worth it!
Wow, I will give my maple a chance to recover!
Your garden is beautiful! One can see the love you have for plants and gardens!
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks Jay for showing us your gardens.

Lovely, Jay. I stroll around my border gardens throughout the day also, just enjoying the changes. I wonder what animals you are protecting your tree trunks from?
Deers and rabbits. Especially for when we have the heavy snow in winter, rabbits get desperate and will eat barks and girdle the trees.

Yes I do! We love to spend summer evenings outside sitting under the lights(we are lucky to be in an area with very few mosquitos).
Ok I agree, I have lights too but not ice lights, bigger bulb outdoor lights.
Love your video ❤

Could you move the damaged Japanese Maple to a more sheltered location, maybe as a corner specimen peaking out from under a larger tree?
