I have been junk journaling since 2010. I first watched Jennibellie who recycled everything. I started off with a ruler, paper, scissors, and shoe polish along with food packaging, cardboard and wall paper sample. I learned how to do a journal called Remains of the Day, and I have never looked back. But I have to tell you, I find your channel so refreshing. I am fairly new subbie, like maybe a week old. I know how to make junk journals inside out, but I have never had it broken down to me like you do. I did not have the ability to learn design, and it makes so much sense the way you teach it. I love your minimalistic approach and style. It is very calming. Thank you so much for sharing your art and teaching with us.
I really enjoyed your discussion on the different kinds of junk journals and their Aesthetic Styles. I add my voice in requesting that you do more of these. I learned more this evening and your presentation opened my eyes to the possibilities I could take with the journal I'm still planning. I want to create a scripture journal. In the meantime, I am praying for the continued healing of your fingers.
This is just what I need to get a handle on Shabby Chic! I've been trying (and failing!!) for months to define the style I want to produce, and no-one has given any guidelines so clearly. Thank-you, dear! You know your stuff! 🙂
Loved this video. Definitely would love to see more videos expanding on this subject. It’s interesting to learn the difference between aesthetic, theme and style. I think the most confusing is aesthetic vs theme. If I gathered correctly what you said, aesthetic is just a look, a vibe and theme has a meaning behind it. I’m looking forward to your video. And I’m happy to hear your finger is doing much better!
I LOVED this video. Thank you so much, for I have not been able to exactly pinpoint my fav aesthetic, but it might now be academia! I love maps, charts, graph papers, calligraphy, etc. I didn't know that all of those weird things I collect actually have a category. Thank you, Bree, for another fantastic video. More, more, more on these types of vids.
This video goes in my "all time faves" YT folder! You have a deliberate, calm way of presenting that makes me wonder that 10-15 minutes is all you need to say all that.. in every video!
I just found your channel, via this fab video! I’d love to hear more, and I’m definitely going to watch your other videos too. I’ve only recently started in this craft ( mostly I’m a fibre crafter,) and I have been enjoying discovering new-to-me channels. So happy to add yours to my subscriptions!
Thank you for this content! I could never define what comprised a specific aesthetic and this video helped tremendously. Apparently, my aesthetic is eclectic because I play with elements from all the categories listed! However, I tend to lean more toward dark academia and goth. Now I can focus more on developing these two aesthetics. I love your channel!
This video is amazing! It's really helped catagorise everything for me, so I know what my themes are. (Steampunk, Goth, Dark Academia, and some Shabby Chick themed junk journal) No idea how to implement any of that into one, but now I know what to look for and think about, I can have fun figuring it out. Definitely a video to keep close to hand!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVED your descriptions of the different kind of JunkJournals. I am new to this JJ space, and @ 55 years young, Im excited to see this video.Yes, I would appreciate a deeper dive into more explanation of this video. Those more experienced such as yourself, I am eager to learn from. I am currently ending(by end of year) & exiting 20 years as a Construction Company(along side husband) Owner. I feel I get to do something creatively I love. I loved running the business It was mixed with Challenges, learning, growth & freedom to create within the confines of construction. I Now will use the endless ability of my own creativity to Create in the Junk Journal space. BTW, I mix and match all through the types of aesthetics, depending on what or who I have in mind when creating. I do enjoy how your videos are put together, I to want to join the UA-cam family and have my hand in this as well. Thank You, Christine S
Very interesting video..would love you to make another video on this subject for sure. Love the videos! Curious what you consider your personal journal style? 💕
Hi Bree , it's a pleasure. (Happy to see that your finger is better) - Thanks for this very interesting video and explanations on all these different techniques - i can't wait to see your new creations - See you very soon. 🙂
So happy that there are people who know what the word aesthetic means and how to use it😂 tiktok has stolen the word and now it's used so strangely. I don't really like the shabby chic aesthetic in journaling. But I really love colourful layouts that make use of modern images from magazines almost in the way collaging was done during the 80s. I'm not sure what that aesthetic is called. I also like it when people do that surreal kind of journaling when strange photos and pictures are cut and placed in juxtaposing ways that create new meaning, it has an almost sci-fi look. Anyway thank you for making this so easy to understand and getting me thinking about the look I would like to create in anything I make.❤
I would love a deep dive in all the different aesthetics out there as I feel I’m a jack of all trades when it comes to them and I love making different aesthetic journals. I have made gardening, gothic, tea, kawaii and am now working on kiddish. I would love to know them all so I can put my spin on it.
Not sure which catagory my journal falls in, I use mostly a vintage look . A mixture of a few perhaps, as i add in some elements of several catagories . Thank you for the video, I'll be watching for more!
I really enjoyed this video & it helped to clear up & define the terms that we all commonly use in this craft. Glad your finger is on the mend & look forward to seeing more of your videos
You once asked, I said Your style. Although it is refreshing, crisp, I still end up with something else when I try to copy it. However when I use your technique I have much better results with My style. Which after viewing this video it is boho/junk. Colorful w upcycled elements and a little too busy for my total satisfaction. That's where 1134 press comes in to "aide". Thank you Bree!
Another great, informative video. I'm always excited when I see a new 1134 Press video pop up. I'm wondering if It is acceptable to have one main aesthetic with some different aesthetics thrown in? My junk journal falls mainly in the light academia category but there are also some antique and true junk included. Do you need to stick to one aesthetic or is it okay to have a mix?
Hi Bree, thanks for explaining all these different aesthetics... I tend to mix a little of different styles, which makes my junk journals very ecclectic. I often base a junk journal on the paper pads and stickers I find at Action's shop, a bit the equivalent of the Dollar tree in the US, these shops where you can find everything at very cheap prices. They have a nice DIY choice. And I can't choose between modern and vintage/shabby, so I tend to use both in one journal. It's still difficult for me to choose one only style for my junks. Is it bad? Greetings from France 😃🤗
I’m still new to JJ’s but wish I would’ve watched this a few months ago!!! So helpful! ❣️ I had an idea of what I wanted but didn’t know what to call it. 😅 I kept searching “dreamscape” & fairy tale, but didn’t find what I wanted. FINALLY, just a few days ago, I figured it out (thanks Etsy!) ….. “nouveau fantasy”!
Hi Bree, ( hope I spelled it correctly) I like your bowling alley analogy. Yes please do a video on style & themes please. So glad your finger is doing better. What did you do to it?
Some styles I've noticed lean a bit more masculine and some others hyperfeminine. And I bet even some styles could even hybridize into each other, steampunk and Christmas for example. I noticed that you like to go more towards the academia aesthetic. I've often veered somewhat more minimalist.
@@1134Press academia, as we all know tends to embrace fall palettes which can work for many seasons and has a timelessness about it. It also gives off very City vibes, sometimes. What draws you to the academia aesthetics?
Please continue with these type videos. Very interesting and food for thoughts. Loved this presentation. Will save this one ❤️
Thank you Susan!!!

Thank you Lenella! It makes me so happy to know that I have something different to add to the conversation! I appreciate that!
I had to watch this twice and now i know why I am not liking my junk journaling. I plan to work through each style to see what I like the most. Thanks
That sounds like an exciting project! If you haven’t already, join the FB group so you can share! I would love to see your projects and experiments!

Which one is your favorite?
@@1134Press damn, that's a tough one as I veer towards many different aesthetics including academia to one extent or the other!
Do you ever use a bullet journal? I enjoyed your video.
I do a hybrid version of the bullet journal, but it’s less “pretty” and more functional (for me) than the way other artists do it.
@@1134Press Wld love to see if you ever post it. Thank you!
