Great list as always. I'm not saying these are better, but you have: Christmas Evil, Christmas Bloody Christmas, and A Christmas Horror Story. All worthy entries. Gremlins and Krampus rule.
While not marketed as a horror film, the Jim Carey animated A Christmas Carol (2009) is terrifying, and if you have a 3D setup it's one of the most immersive 3D experiences you will have. Whether deliberately or not, it makes great use of the uncanny valley aspect of early computer animation.
I went to that movie when it premiered. Tons of kids in the theater. All generally well behaved until the ghost of Christmas future showed up and the movie was in 3D. I kid you not at least a dozen fled their parents and ran screaming up and down the dark isles. It was chaos, parents were looking for their kids in the dark and I was stoned out of my mind. I'll never forget that experience.
Black Christmas 2006 is so underrated. I think it just got lost in the glut of terrible remakes that came out around that time but it's definitely worthy of rediscovery. Also love you included Silent Night, Deadly Night 5. I thought I was the only fan!
Bob Clark - Director of Black Christmas - also made Porky's. The humor in Black Christmas is very much like that of Porky's, too. The calls, and what the killer says in them, seem to be only possible due to the Exorcist being released the year before. The things he says are really shocking, which adds to the mania of the caller. It's my favorite horror film ever.
I was waiting for someone to mention this. It was made by the same guys who made Pieces (1982) and a lot of the cast and crew for that movie returned for this one. The production history for that movie deserves its own documentary/video sometime. I think GoodBadFlicks might have made one.
You HAVE to check out Christmas Evil. It’s essentially Joker mixed with Silent Night Deadly Night. Incredible ending and awesome dreamy hazy cinematography. The Vinegar Syndrome blu ray looks amazing.
I'm kind of surprised 'A Christmas Horror Story' (2015) isn't on the list. It wasn't really a horror/comedy but William Shatner's little scenes lightened it up a bit.
@@CowboyRobot2000 A part of mine too. I saw it on some streaming service I had at the time and immediately ordered the DVD so I'd always have a copy to watch at Christmas.
I agree! Not only one of my top 5 Christmas Horror movie but one of my favorite anthology movie. I like the Krampus storyline in it better than the Krampus movie. Great film! Shatner at his best!
My absolute fav Christmas horror is Christmas Evil 1980 (also a fav of the legendary John Waters), it start Fiona Apple's father, some others I love you didn't mention: Sint (Saint) 2010, A Christmas Horror Story, Silent Night 2012, I Trapped the Devil, Christmas Bloody Christmas, Anna and the Apocalypse 2018, Dead End 2003 (Ray Wise and Lin Shaye rule), The Advent Calendar 2021, Wind Chill 2007, The Apology 2022. For some New Years horror, End of Days, The Children, and The Day of the Beast, which I feel you would really enjoy. Happy Holidays!
Black Christmas(74) is easily my favorite Christmas horror movie and one of my top ten favorite movies of all time. Billie is absolutely terrifying. It never loses its effectiveness for me even though I’ve seen it over twenty times at this point.
I've never watched the newer Black Christmas but, I think it's cool that Andrea Martin is in the original too! I'm going to check it out. Krampus is my top Christmas horror movie as well!
There is a wild comedy-horror film I watch every Christmas called "Santa Jaws." The effects are great, but there is something about it that I love. It's a wild plot. A kid accidently summons a killer Christmas themed shark with a magic pen after he gets grounded. The kills are crazy. The design for the shark as she gets more and more Christmasy is fun. I don't normally like low budget shark films, but I watch this every year.
Every year, we get a tree put it up and decorate it and then at night when my daughter is in bed, watch Black Christmas (1974) with a glass of Mulled Wine. Only then can Christmas begin! 😂❤
1. Black Christmas ('74) 2. Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 3. Silent Night, Deadly Night 4. Better Watch Out 5. The Day of the Beast 6. A Christmas Horror Story 7. The Curse of the Cat People 8. Krampus 9. Christmas Evil 10. Gremlins I can't wait to see Terrifier 3! Merry Christmas, Daniel 10/10 fricheks
Thanks for sharing your list dude! I actually forgot Curse of the Cat People is a Christmas movie. And Better Watch Out I haven’t seen since it came out, but I remember enjoying it.
I like to think Black Christmas and A Christmas Story take place not only in the same universe but the same town. I believe the killer is actually Ralphie's little brother Randy grown up, still traumatized by that snowsuit his mom wrapped him up in.
Nice to see Rare Exports on the list. :D I like British Christmas zombie musical horror comedy Anna and the Apocalypse. It's not very scary imo but it's fun combining all these elements.
I had a chip on my shoulder about Black Xmas until I decided to finally give it a shot last year, and it is such a wild time. It totally justified its existence and doesn't tread on the original at all.
5 years ago I picked up the most recent Shout Blu Ray of "Black Christmas". I'd never seen it and boy, I sat in total silence at rapt attention for the entire run time. The final shot reminds me of DePalma's "Sisters"; the vibe that the police are unable to save anyone and it's not over is very somber. I re-watch it every Christmas.
I was first introduced to Jack Frost as a kid in video rental stores. People would always switch its spot with the Michael Keaton movie and put it in the kids section. It also had a holographic vhs cover where the snowman would change from the cute friendly version into the scary horror version.
Santa's Slay. I may be the only person that champions the film, but damn is it worth it. Christmas Bloody Christmas. I love how it starts off as a comedy, but changes tone to a very serious horror. Technically, Prometheus is a Christmas movie, but I'm not a giant fan of the film, so, eh.
I want to shout out “There’s Something In The Barn” which is a Norwegian/American co-production about an American family who inherit a farm in Norway. It’s very Gremlins-y and it goes hard with Norwegian Christmas traditions and folklore 🎄 I watched the original Black Christmas for the first time about 20 years ago and it disturbed me so much I couldn’t imagine ever watching it again. Fast forward a decade and I decided to give it another shot: now I watch it every single December 😊
Wow, you did not lose any time! New month, perfect new video. This made me very excited to rewatch the original Black Christmas and check out Krampus for the first time. Any thoughts on the 2019 Black Christmas, which I've also not seen?
I actually thought the 2019 Black Christmas was okay. Most people hated it, but it was a decent little college horror movie. Has nothing to do with the original though, it’s Black Christmas in name only.
One of my favorite and most entertaining Christmas comedy horror is a little gem from 2005 called Santa's Slay. The storyline predates Rare Exports by five years. Wrestler Goldberg plays a killer Santa. James Caan does a cameo. Yes, Buddy the Elf's biological father. It is hilarious with some big comedians of the time attached. There's a scene where Santa goes to a sleazy bar. I second Christmas Evil also titled You Better Watch Out. It shows an unhinged man and his decent into Christmas madness. It's a barely talked about hidden gem. Silent Night, Bloody Night I'll also add to the list. It has a stable of Andy Wahol's Factory group including trans actress Candy Darling. It also has icons Mary Woronov and John Carradine. This one is a slow burn just like Christmas Evil.
I love your channel! I’ve loved horror films my whole life. Halloween is my favorite holiday, but Christmas is my 2nd fav! And, I also love when the 2 come together in movies!!Thank you for your awesome content, as always!!😃 Happy holidays!
Fantastic timing! I love it when a video gives you time to acquire holiday films you aren't familiar with in time for the big day. Top fives are very personal, of course, and mine contains a few that aren't really about Christmas. However, one that makes my list and is very seasonal is "Sint (AKA Saint)" (Ned 2010). Wishing all horror fans a joyful holiday season. ❄️
I wasn't a fan of Krampus but I always meant to give it another go because I think my expectations were too high given it was Michael Dougherty. But #1 over Black Christmas '74? Whaaa? Great list tho. Check out Christmas Evil if you haven't, the Vinegar Syndrome blu treatment looks fantastic as usual!
My favorite has to be "A Christmas Horror Story." I used to watch it every Christmas Eve while stuffing stockings. Due to geographic distribution of our family, I don't stuff stockings like that any more. But I still watch it every year. Glad to see "Rare Exports" on your list, too. It's genius.
Great video! Especially love your expression after you say the name of the toy store! My favorite alternative Christmas movies are Gremlins, Scrooged, and End of Days (technically a New Year's movie).
Christmas Evil (1980) is a glaring omission. John Waters says it’s his favorite Xmas film and I watch Christmas Evil with the John Waters commentary every year. Joe Bob Briggs loves it as well. As far as I know it is the first ever full length santa slasher movie. The performance by the lead actor, Broadway veteran Brandon Maggart, is on the same level as Jack Nicholson in The Shining. The Blu ray is by Vinegar Syndrome. I’ve discovered several good movies from your channel. I will continue to follow, thanks for your hard work.
Not sure about the order but my classics are: Santa's Slay Silent Night (2012) Terrifier 3 Christmas Bloody Christmas Black Christmas (original and 2006) Krampus Gremlins Rare Exports P2
I've been an American Krampus enthusiast for a few decades, and I totally get where you are coming from. That being said, I went into the flick thinking it would likely not follow the folklore, so I enjoyed it as a silly, Christmas Horror Comedy. The downside is I have to frequently correct my fellow Americans on the nature of Krampus, and now he isn't an "evil Santa" the way the movie depicted.
I agree. The movie has everything that I would love, but it just didn't work for me. Not sure why. Yes, I do know that this monster has nothing in common with the real Krampus folklore.
Greetings from Finland! Great to see Rare Exports mentioned, ❤it’s a favourite of mine! I also like Black Christmas (70s version) and Gremlins, I actually never seen the other movies on this list yet.
Christmas Eve is not over for my wife and I until we watch Silent Night Deadly Night. You see Santa Claus tonight boy, you better run.....Run for your life!
Better watch Out is my favorite Home Alone horror riff. I like the 2012 version of Silent Night. Santa with a flamethrower, and Malcolm McDowall as the sheriff
Excellent video. Best Christmas comedy not watched much: “Four Christmas’s,” with Reece Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn. Two most underrated horror movies worth watching: Devil, M Night Shalaman, The Devils Advocate, with Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves.
I fully agree with you about Krampus. It's my favorite too. There are a few that I love that didn't make your list (and SHOULD!) Christmas Evil (1980) pre-dates Silent Night Deadly Night in the killer Santa department, Better Watch Out (2016) which is probably the greatest horror movie title of all time features the traditional babysitter vs psycho trope with a fantastic twist. Silent Night (2021) is a horror comedy about a group of middle age friends in England getting together for one last Christmas as the world is ending. A bit of a slow burn but full of great performances. It's a genuinely funny movie that just gets darker and darker as it progresses. I first saw this movie with my husband in and empty theater during the Covid pandemic, so that may have really boosted the apocalyptic vibe for me. It really is one of the best though and comes with my highest possible recommendation.
Black Christmas Terrifier 3 Christmas Evil Silent Night Deadly Night To All a Goodnight Offerings Silent Night Deadly Night 5 Gremlins Its a Wonderful Knife 3615 Code Pere Noel those are my favs, not in any order other than Black Christmas 74 is the best!
Solid list but would've definitely included "To All A Good Night" (1980). The top 2 greatest Christmas horror films of all time, imo... are Black Christmas (1974) followed by Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
I have not watched this video yet because I just woke up but I’m assuming Christmas Evil is in it and also Christmas Bloody Christmas is very over the top entertaining. It’s like The Terminator but Santa Clause style.
There's a fan made sequel to the original Black Christmas on YT, titled It's Me, Billy. The director released the sequel to it, also here on YT. It's Me, Billy: Chapter 2
No Violent Night? I loved that movie. I like Krampus but didn't like that it couldn't decide if it wanted to go horror comedy/slasher or Home Alone style family comedy. I almost thought it needed to be rated R or PG, not PG-13. Great list though.
All year we tell kids not to lie, come Christmas time we all lie to the kids🤔 Also we tell them not to talk to strangers but it’s ok if an elderly man they don’t know comes into their bedroom on the 24/25th of December. CHRISTMAS IS SICK😂 nollaig shona do chách 🇮🇪🎅🏻🤶
Krampus is easily my favorite!!! I have to say, I'm not a fan of slashers, generally, so most of the others don't really do anything for me. But this one? C'est fantastique. If you want some feel-good Christmas cheese, I really, really recommend having a lesser-known 80s Christmas movie marathon. My all-time favorite is The Night They Saved Christmas - it's here on UA-cam, no DVD/BluRay that I'm aware of. Also, give A Muppet Family Christmas a watch, it's a classic. That's another one that you should definitely watch on UA-cam (preferably with the vintage telecast commercials), as the only DVD release it's had cut a lot of songs out due to copyright. Others that you could include would be One Magic Christmas with Mary Steenbergen, Santa Claus: The Movie (talk about cheesy, this one is practically a charcuterie board), and heck, you could even throw in Scrooged, though it's pretty well known. I think you and your family would have fun with these!
Dial Code Santa Claus actually came out a year before Home Alone, which led to the producers actually threatening legal action against the makers of HA.
I have a copy of Silent Night Deadly Night. I can’t believe you did t mention the awesome song that’s in it! “Santas Watching Santas Waiting……” creeeepy
Not bad. I would go with the first sequel to “Silent Night, Deadly Night” rather than that first film in the series since you’re kind of getting two films in one. “Black Christmas” is my #1. (I actually prefer it to “Halloween,” which literally wouldn’t exist without it.) But it admittedly doesn’t have as much Christmas flair as your top two. CineFix did a Top 12 list on this subject last year, and it’s not too bad even though “Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale” didn’t make the cut. (I agree that the ending is a bit anticlimactic, although they probably didn’t have the budget to take it to the next level.)
I really need to see Krampus one day. I remember it being one of those instant cult classics when it released and I just never got around to seeing it. Guess I gotta stop buying Scooby-Doo DVDs and get Krampus instead.
I was not expecting to see Black Xmas or Krampus on your list at all, let alone as high as both were and I greatly appreciate that. But it's criminal not having P2 or You Better Watch Out(1980, I refuse to use it's other title because the original title is so much better) on your list.
Great list as always. I'm not saying these are better, but you have: Christmas Evil, Christmas Bloody Christmas, and A Christmas Horror Story. All worthy entries. Gremlins and Krampus rule.
Great list but i was surprised to find no love for Christmas Evil. Maybe as an Honorable Mention?

A Christmas Carol in General has scariness in it.
Yup, and that version is somehow one of the scariest I've ever seen. The musical adaptation from 1970 also has some delightfully dark moments in it.
I went to that movie when it premiered. Tons of kids in the theater. All generally well behaved until the ghost of Christmas future showed up and the movie was in 3D. It really is one of the best though and comes with my highest possible recommendation.
Yes! Great video, Daniel, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Black Christmas

Silent Night Deadly Night 5

3615 Code Pere Noel
those are my favs, not in any order other than Black Christmas 74 is the best!
There is a terrific and terrifying Christmas Eve scene in Tod Browning's "The Devil Doll" from 1936.
marshmallows are good!!!....yea can never get enough
A Christmas Horror Story should have been on this list. Absolutely love that film.
Solid list but would've definitely included "To All A Good Night" (1980). The top 2 greatest Christmas horror films of all time, imo... are Black Christmas (1974) followed by Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
My favorite Christmas horror films:
Curse Of The Cat People (1944)
Tales From The Crypt (1972)
Night Of The Comet
Dead End (2003)
I have not watched this video yet because I just woke up but I’m assuming Christmas Evil is in it and also Christmas Bloody Christmas is very over the top entertaining. It’s like The Terminator but Santa Clause style.
I see some of my favs on there!
There's a fan made sequel to the original Black Christmas on YT, titled It's Me, Billy.
The director released the sequel to it, also here on YT.
It's Me, Billy: Chapter 2
Love all of these! In my top 10 are also Christmas Evil, Don’t open till Xmas, and my favorite Anna and the Apocalypse. Oh and garbage day!!! (SNDN2)
No Violent Night? I loved that movie. I like Krampus but didn't like that it couldn't decide if it wanted to go horror comedy/slasher or Home Alone style family comedy. I almost thought it needed to be rated R or PG, not PG-13. Great list though.
I love Violent Night too, but I think it’s just a straight up action movie. Glad you enjoyed the list!
@@cobwebschannel a straight up action movie that takes place during Christmas with Santa Claus.
Yes, a Christmas action movie.
I ❤ Christmas horror. One of my favorites is Santa’s Slay with Bill Goldberg.
All year we tell kids not to lie, come Christmas time we all lie to the kids🤔 Also we tell them not to talk to strangers but it’s ok if an elderly man they don’t know comes into their bedroom on the 24/25th of December. CHRISTMAS IS SICK😂
nollaig shona do chách 🇮🇪🎅🏻🤶
Actor Andrea Martin was in both the 1974 “Black Christmas” and the 2006 “Black Christmas”.
This recommendation is NOT family friendly but Bad Santa 2 is funny and raunchy Xhristmas goodness! 😂
I've always enjoyed Silent Night from 2012.
Krampus also had a line of comic books that tie in to the movie
Dial Code Santa Claus actually came out a year before Home Alone, which led to the producers actually threatening legal action against the makers of HA.
You should watch the other ones too
I have a copy of Silent Night Deadly Night.
6:44 oops 😂😂
I really need to see Krampus one day. I remember it being one of those instant cult classics when it released and I just never got around to seeing it. Guess I gotta stop buying Scooby-Doo DVDs and get Krampus instead.
A Christmas Horror Story needs to be on this list
I was not expecting to see Black Xmas or Krampus on your list at all, let alone as high as both were and I greatly appreciate that.
But it's criminal not having P2 or You Better Watch Out(1980, I refuse to use it's other title because the original title is so much better) on your list.
